im from philippines and it is easy to open and it can use your barely hands if your strong just avoid with the spikes and it taste delicious, my favorite fruit ..! LoL..!!
@inoria I just had some for the first time today... There are some foods that smell bad, but are ok... but not durian. Durian has a smell almost like chemicals. It simply doesn't smell like something that should be eaten. Yes, it is that bad.
that fruits is our south east asian secret weapon against robbery. We just grow that in our back/front/side yards, whenever it ripe, it will drop and kill any intruders or pass-byers.
I guess people's sense of smell really does differ. Personally, I love the smell of durian. My mum, dad and brother all say the fragrant is superb. My cousin, however, can't stand the smell...says it smells like the inside of her kitty's litter box. lol. I don't really understand why. My mom says it's because people's brain interprets the smell differently; that why some people really likes it, while others hates it. Regardless of smell, though, we all agreed that the taste is puuuure heaven.
this video shows the wrong way to open a durian. The right way is the find the seem as suggested, but only make an opening (with a knife or your nail) big enough to slip your fingers in. it can then be pulled apart easily. The fewer cuts the better, because cutting it and missing the seem (by even a little) will make it harder to open.
I take the the people who say that that fruit stinks have never tried one because serioussly it does not smell as bad and its also one of the most delicious fruits out there + its got more vitamin C then most fruits
We have an Asian market here in the Bronx area of NY. They sell Durians. I'm debating if I should try the fruit. I see the store sells chips and ice bars. I think I'll try the chips and work my way up.
Use brains. Dont sit on your butt trying to open a durian. Gravitational force dude. your body weight is concentrated on your butt. Im a girl. I can peel it open. Seriously. So misleading. And you even cut it through. Weaklings.
@thaipulsedotcom Hell Yeah Im a he-woman. I should show off my damn big muscles.(sarcastic) Im small and petite. FYI. Like I said, its abt the brains not the brawn. Maybe you should make a video of you trying to peel open a durian since you are from Thailand? Man? Woman? He-woman? She-MAN?!
It isn't that it smells bad, it just has a strong smell. My dad opens that with his bare hands haha. One of my fave fruits! :) The frozen one smells less though~
Everybdy I smelled one before, its not exactly terrible terrible its just pretty hard to get along to. I tried it 2 it does taste really creamy or smooth and it has a sweet onion flavor but its not as bad as u think it is.
They are simply delicious, by far the best food I have eaten anywhere: a quintessence of strawberries, bananas, pineapple, cream, and custard with the texture of batter - and yet with a savoury tang of onion and Stilton cheese and a faint suggestion of drains. - F. Spencer Chapman
Smells are only "good" or "bad" according to childhood associations . Most Asians don't find durian smell unpleasant. Most Westerners do, but love the taste. If you live in USA and want to taste durian without smell, it's very easy: They freeze it to ship to USA, and sell it in Asian markets still frozen. Keep it cold and eat it right away. Cold durian doesn't exude its charactistic smell. Be sure to wrap-seal remains in plastic and discard outside immediately. Delicious!
I think the horridness of the smell is exaggerated. It's definitely strong, but to me the part that is objectionable smells a bit like rotten onions. But like really good rotten onions! Rich, creamy, sweet. Durian's wonderful!
Anyway, I really enjoyed this video. :] I guess it's because of these types of foods that are featured in your video. This one especially is very interesting. ;D
The smell is nice, just don't put your nose to near it or else, it stinks... A fresh durian is alright... In one of the Fear Factor episodes requires them eating a whole durian for each group, none of them got pass it. I would be glad to be there. =D
