Its unfortunate the dog had to die to teach people something they should have known already just by common sense. This is a perfect example of the stupidity and uselessness of religion as a whole.
This is awesome. Putting aside the political correctness of religious tolerance, some superstitious part of religion actually causes tremendous suffering, as shown in this video. It is absolutely necessary to put these superstition under rational examination.
@thisbemyteevee@thisbemyteevee Wow, really? A dog that has faith in this "healer"? Are you kidding? Maybe if the "dog had faith" it still wouldn't have worked! Dog's don't have "faith", anyway.
For one, they did not absolutely need to kill a dog. Besides, show me the rational, undisputed, scientific evidence, which clearly demonstrates that after they killed that dog, 200,000 human lives have been saved each year.
@Givemeabreakpleaseok Yes, exactly, and it appears that most of the crowd already didn't accept faith healers. But, because of this video, others who may still accept faith healers will have something to think about. I REALLY doubt they'll change as easily as this guy did or at least claimed he did.
@Givemeabreakpleaseok "show me the rational, undisputed, scientific evidence, which clearly demonstrates that after they killed that dog, 200,000 human lives have been saved each year" - Actually it was 20,000 lives, and he wasn't claiming that a single demonstration would save that many lives... he was merely saying that with continued re-education this number could be greatly reduced.
should have used a believing person instead of the dog. At least dogs are not dumb enough to seek out a magic cure. While stumbling around, dying from the sanke bite, the dog looked more like it wanted to lie down rather than seek out a magic man.
(1/2) Well, I'd have to say things like being self aware, and the emotional distress that it would cause friends and family is a good place to start with the dogs vs. humans argument.
Plus, if a human dies, odds are you either took the life of a child, which would cause extreme emotional suffering, or the breadwinner of a family, in which case you would cause financial suffering, literally taking food out of the mouths of the survivors, on top of breaking their hearts...
(2/2) On the other hand, if you kill a dog, especially a stray, while it's not necessarily a good thing to do, unless it has a very young litter that is still breast feeding, the only thing that would suffer might be the owners, and on a far less grand scale.
Biologically, we have evolved an attachment to our own kind, it is written in our genes. If you would really truly have a moral dilemma choosing between the lives of a dog or person, that's a sociopathic tendency you should get checked.
@NinjaStarODavid I assure you I have no sociopathic tendencies. I love my family and friends. However, I don't think being the top species gives us the right to just do as we please to other species and cause unnecessary suffering. If it is absolutely necessary to kill an animal (for food, etc.), then do so, but surely, what the rationalists did could have been achieved without killing that dog. At the very least, they could have used a dog that had attacked people before instead of a stray.
The dog died. Understandably many people find this scene distressing, but my aim was to provide an honest and accurate report rather than entertainment. That said, this is an edited version, which spares the audience some of the most gruesome details. The other side of the coin is that many people die from snakebite in India when they put their trust in deluded quacks and their useless remedies.
roberte207, do you think that all gurus in India are frauds? There are some that are even popular in the USA, like Ammachi, Mother Meera, Shree Ma, etc.
@socal1982 Gurus are either frauds or are deluded and think they have powers. Sai Baba is definitely a fraud. Also just because Western countries believe in a guru doesn't make that guru genuine.
We don't need religion or supernatural beliefs to be compassionate and to feel great love. We can all do that with or without religion. Religion is redundant in the modern age.
We human are just too cruel. Just because for our own benefits..we scarified all those animals like rabbit or dog. Ya...i admits its useful for our generations if a experiment is a success but it just....cruel:(
These guys are makeing an excelent job, they are spreading enlightening against supestition. This Job must be introduced in Universities, specially in humanistic careers, where the same kind of ignorant supersticious is "forming" students under postmodern ideology, creating students that neglect reason, values, science, and democracy.
What the fuck? Why use a dog? Use one of those fatso criminals sentenced for death? Them fuckers get lethal injection anyway so snakebite wouldn't change.
It had to be done to save HUMAN lives???? Yeah, when humans throw the fuckin dog on stage im sure it was very proud to die to save a human life. Why is it we treat all other life as worthless and kill and eat it and human life is sooo much more fuckin precious i guess. This video makes me sick and the healer sorta looks like snoop dog by the way.
WHY DID THEY TEST IT ON A CUTE DOG. THEY SHOULDA TESTED IT ON A UGLY HUMAN!!! GOD DAMN IT!

if the dog had had any faith in the guru's mantras, then maybe we'd have had a proper demonstration!

@yobro250 Totally agree. People need to be educated and medicine (science) helps with antivenoms. I wish they had not used a dog.

That dog is a hero. Please fight against any sort of faith healer. You will not get better from faith healing. Science will ALWAYS defeat myth.

The dog got bit by a snake and died. Being a test subject to show people how stupid they are doesn't make it a hero.

I think they should have had him try to heal another guru instead of a dog. Then you'd get TWO fake healers for the price of one.

@ MrMythnam
2 for the price of 1 eh? I'm reminded of that bit from the Simpsons episode 'Sunday Cruddy Sunday'
Homer: Wow! A Valu-Qual coupon book! Let's see...Ten percent off carpet cleaning. Ten! Two pizzas for the price of one at Doughy's!
Lisa: Doughy's has terrible pizza!
Homer: Yeah, but there's two!
2 gurus!

Anyone who thinks that it's cruel to kill one dog so that 200,000 people a year will live really has to reassess their values.
