Awesome. I was in a popsicle bridge building competition in Virgina State. Only popsicle sticks and elmers woodglue. My bridge weighed ~2.5 lbs and held some 346lbs over an 18" span. We took the bridges to a test lab where a hydraulic piston with a 2" base would push down on the center of the bridge and would record the maximum pressure until the bridge started to give.
I got 2nd place because we divided the achieved pressure by the weight of the bridge (mine was ~140lbs per pound of bridge).
@TheGrymkhana42 was it flat on the ground or being suspended. I did the same to my bridge and it wouldn't show signs of breaking, although that isn't what bridges were built for.
I'm not trying to be mean or anything but the highest weight of 135 would have been in top 10 in my class of model bridges. 2 kids bridges help them. I think we were allowed more sticks though. We could use 240. No super glue or any of that stuff.
@bikercc We have students hold over 1200 lbs and could keep going (But they give up due to danger of floor collapsing) with a 1000 stick max. And we have allot more restrictions than you guys, no cutting off pieces, no coloring, only elmers glue all is to be used.
@ovoon7 how old are your students? we were only grade 9 highschool students. we had restrictions to how many popsicle sticks we used kinda, we diodn't exactly have a heck of a lot to start with.
@bikercc Ok cool, I was talking about in the video, not right now. I was just stating our rules and each year some bridge breaks around 1500 and some dont break at all. (I asked today, it was higher than 1300, thats a yearly average for high, but once there was a 2200)
@ovoon7 cool! but its difficult to find something to use that will support up to 1500 pounds to even attach to your bridge, let alone even finding enough weights. This is why there were some restrictions in size and stuff so it was easier to test it. plus it was cool to see which design was the strongest. we used the program west point bridge design to help us out a bit.

@jpodejko i think theres different specifications for different schools eh? eg the weight limit of the bridge, the style of the bridge, the length , dont be so negative and say such thing as YOU FAIL, im sure they did good for their situation.
site note, just test my groups bridge today, help 680newtons =D dunno what that is in american units ><
i made one in grade 11, it held 120lb over a span of 50cm then we ran out of weights and the biggest kid in our class(around 250lb) sat on it holding all the weights and it didn't budge.
yea, but how many stics did u use, and what was its weight. I have to do the same shit in my class right now, and the max my bridge can weight is 90g, and span 30 cm :S.
yep you guys held more weight then our bridges but you guys used the big Popsicle sticks. What kind of glue did you use? we used carpenters glue, no epoxy allowed.
Hey, I did this before. I used steel rods and covered it up with the popsicle sticks. Hold all the weights my teacher had. haha
