  • Did I miss the lifter install? I saw the guides but not the lifters..

  • @fuzzywuzzy18 They are attached to the guides. Pause the video at 1:17 and look at the far bank.

  • Solid works is my guess. But I could be wrong.

  • Which programm is being used? Anyone?

  • Best small block engines in the world are LS.

  • At 49-50 seconds the video shows a huge harmonic blancer/pulley crankshaft bolt being used for the timing gear on the camshaft. UPPS! Given it's such a detailed video, that had to be an intentional feature just to see if anyone would notice it...

  • this looks like a dodge magnum engine too

  • This was nice..I learned a lot from this..

  • Okay, not to sound stupid, but where can I watch like an instructional video that tells me the parts of the engine, what they do, etc?

  • Cool video but this is an LS3. LS2 heads are "Cathedral" port heads. Still a nice animation!

  • wow

  • vettes came with ls2's??

  • @187lazyjoker the 2005-2007 vettes

  • Nice!...I've had this as my screensaver for years now, never get tired of watching it :)

  • @FuKnOveRkiLL - Their is now an updated HD verison that puts it into the Corvette chassis. Check out GM ZR1 Corvette V8 Engine Assembly LS9 and Car..

  • AMG = One Man, One Engine.

LS2 = One Fat Man In Kentucky, Collecting Union Wages for Running A Computer.

  • @comlax22 hey but the fat man wins lol

  • @comlax22 no/ amg also Collecting Union Wages for Running A Computer

  • Bigger is better!!!!!!! I would love to see you put any little motor up to a NHRA top fuel drag car with over 8,000 hp ,and 0 to over 300mph under 4 sec. I love real cars with big motors and a lot of horse power.

  • Do you work for GM

  • This engineer deserves the money hes making from GM

  • America the laughing stock of the world. How can a country with so much resources may such a low tech engine and then use tons of cc to make up. Bigger is not better it is just wasteful.

  • if i ever need to assemble an ls motor....definatly watchin this vid

  • This probably took a lot longer to make than it did the engine lol

  • WOOO Corvett

  • Engine is developed in USA and Made in China...

  • Try listening Daft Punk's Harder Better Faster Stronger while watching this!

  • Those are LS3 cylinder heads...

  • @milkman383 nice catch. The square intake runners are a good indicator they are the LS3 heads.

  • @milkman383 good call. The square intake runners are a good indication that those are LS3 heads. However the LS7 heads were had a casting like that. At the end the valve covers look like they say LS7 but that is not the correct oil pan. The LS7 has a dry sump

  • @JohnRTonk those are ls3 heads there the 0821 casting heads

  • @milkman383 LS3 heads bolt right onto an LS2 block :D

  • very cool. and educational

  • Jaguar in the 50's had the first sohc i6 till japan stole it with their supra.

  • Awesome!

  • It doesn't get more American than that. Big bores short strokes a single camshaft = tons of set you back in your seat torque and it's two biggest assets simplicity and reliability. All foreigners may crack on it but it is a proven recipe for fun and racing success. Bravo GM

  • Very nice, God Bless American manufacturing!

  • For all the motors assemblies I recomend two things, name the parts as they are coming, both written and spoken in the native language of the countries that the machines are exported, this will expand the market to people that may want to become mechanics.

  • great video

  • Ls-is-# 1

  • The LS9, LS7 and manual Grand Sport LS3s are all dry sump.

  • this is also the pontiac gto motor i enjoyed this

  • WOW thank`s for uploading this.

  • i was expecting to see a bunch of mexicans putting it together.

  • No cathedral ports on the heads eh?

  • its funny when people think this engine is high tech and special.

  • @FordNissanChevy that block still looks like a chevy 350 will almost

  • @FordNissanChevy It's quite low tech but its manufacturing technique is high tech to insure consistency. American h.p. is unlike anything else in this world,it even makes it's own distinct sound and makes ton's of torque low in the rev range. Turbos and d.o.h.c are for high rev ving Asian and Italian cars. Our motors may be low tech but when I watch your headlights disappear in my rear view mirror of my 98 ls1 vette it makes me proud to be an American : ' )

  • This is nice car porn but I was slightly disappointed to find out that the LS2 has a wet sump system. Does the current corvette engine use a dry sump lube system? If not, then are there plans to switch to one?

  • @thekkl LS7 uses dry sump

  • nice but porsche engine looks mutch more better

  • SEXY... atleast put some music LOL

  • How can people dislike this video? It's almost like lego instructions for an engine because of the exploded piece by piece build lol, I saw this on a screen saver in a classroom for GM auto techs and thought it was a badass model

  • Briliant engine and to the retards who think its low tech because its pushrod. No DOHC V8 could be made that compact , lite weight or have that much value for money. But less is more ,while a 4 valve head may breath a litle better at high revs ,a supercharger or turbo soon sorts that then its academic. Heres the clincher pushrods mean lite weight and compact , therefore you have more room for better suspension, brakes. Lite weight for better handling, power to weight. I Think GM did a magnific Job

  • @Deadlymover1976 Agreed. You have my respect. :)

  • It would be great if the next gen 5.5l engine used the canted chamber design that GM uses on its 60 degree v6s. Its still amazes me that the LS cylinder head design is as efficient as it is despite having inline valves.

    .

Damn epic motor. Keep the good stuff comming GM.

  • Smokn good job on the animation. Saving to favorites :D

  • how is that ls2 if the heads are square port.

  • If you think that American engines are the best in the world, I would have to say your intake valve is full of crack. Sounds like some "freedom fries" type rhetoric. With that said, GM hit a Grand Slam Homerun with the latest Corvettes. They are truly amazing.

  • DEFINATELY THE BEST ANIMATION IVE EVER SEEN, BEAUTIFUL VIDEO.

  • yeeehah american engines are the best in the world!! even though the most important factor of an engine's performance (energy efficiency) is half of that of the most cars in the world...

  • @lobzdik 400 hp and almost 30 mpg...show me the better half thats as reliable, great horsepower, and amazing gas mileage out of a similar 6.0 V8 N/A

  • Amazing !

  • I'm not American and generally favour Jap engines but these LS engines are light, simple, powerful and easy to service so they get my vote. There is too much unnecessary complication in a lot of engines, particularly Euro stuff, whatever does the job best wins irrespective of the technology involved.

  • One day, LS2 and T56 will be swaped into my 350z

  • Funny how everyone bitches about "old" "crap" pushrod "50's" technology, how about them 1912 Fiat DOHC engines?

  • @FYI1337 Fiat can't really complain about "old" technology like pushrods; part of the excitement of Italian cars is whether or not you reach your destination. FIAT is short for Fabrica Industria Automobili Turin. In Australia it's disparagingly known as Fix It Again Tony. OHC will often do no better than pushrods under extreme conditions. some European manufacturers, in an effort to squeeze everything out of them, put the valves close enough to hit pistons if the cam chain snaps. Fiat did.

  • @Mechknight73 I think you missed the point of my post. I was saying that it is funny how people say push rods are old and outdated but in 1912 Fiat and some other companies had dual overhead cam engines around the same time frame, if not earlier than push rod designs. Your post has no relevance to mine, it has nothing to do with Fiat itself. I'm saying over head cam designs are just as old as push rods. So calling them old, and outdated is not so accurate.

  • Amazing!

  • although im a ford guy, id have to say this is my favorite gm engine

  • Well worth a revisit -

  • Disappointing, such an "advanced" engine with pushrods, 2 valves per cylinder, even the oil filter is in the same place it was on the ancient 265 ci Chevy engine. No hemi, look at the old cast exhaust manifolds.

I'm not that impressed, the new VW bugs have 5 valves per cylinder..

It does have a pretty plastic cover over the ignition wiring!

I know, I know, it's reliable as a stone, but I'm amazed that these motors do as well as they do in racing.

  • @IvanLouiseBiggin Euro engineers often forget about reliability; wring everything you can out of that design, and if it breaks, blame the driver. Before using the LS2, GM Holden built their own V8s. Loosely based on the Chevrolets of the day, but vastly improved. Lighter, more powerful for the size, and more efficient. GM's Australian division has been building them tough for a long time. They got that filter placement right the first time, why change it?

  • there are much better engines which are electrical engines.. they are most efficiant and more ecological.. russia showed something like this.. cranes always uses electrical engines but we can't use best technology becouse of seeknes of power to rule of those who keep them hidden.. have a good day

  • v8 16v ? wtf :D:D

  • lol we (me and my teammates at school) couldn't even make a proper animated explode view of a carburettor.

well, it was as it was supposed to be, but some parts had a bad timing and position

  • American engines and American cars are two completely different subjects though. American engines have never been frowned upon, but rather revered. The cars we dropped those engines into, however, have been spat upon for decades. Finally American supercars are inching toward the top again with the Viper ACR and Corvette Z06. Also, Chrysler, GM and Ford aren't representative of American ingenuity, are no longer owned by their founding fathers, and their owners have no patriotism whatsoever.

  • The LS engines are awsome.=D

  • thats pretty cool thanks for posting

  • An awful lot of work went into that CAD tho!

  • I wish i had an extra set of hands to give GM four thumbs down this motor is American made GARBAGE

  • @Hondatron1 dude are you kiddin me? a V8 can last way longer than your stupid ass hondas and a stock V8 can easily walk over your piece of shit VTEC 4 cylinder with mods VTEC sometimes i guess you gotta have a catchy word ta let the world kno your car doesnt make power til 6,000 rpm and still has no balls, you honda fan boys are the same yaw think yaw can take anybody but sometimes reality is a bitch

  • @Hondatron1 obviously you've never driven a car with an LS2 in it........ 05-06 GTO and the Corvette are the only two that I'm aware of with it in it and they are both STUPID fast and easily modified as GM left lots of h.p on the table. I can't imagine anyone anywhere not loving that eyepopping torque no matter where you're from.

  • @my74junker correct me if im wrong but i think that engine is also in the trailblazer ss and silverado ss. ive driven both and they are detuned to 395-400 hp with just over 400lb.ft of torque. they are both supposed to have the 6.0 vette engine which i thought for the year i was lookin at was the 07. they use so many small block v8's i get confused some times.

  • Wow 2 valves per cylinder! Very hight tech.

  • @DanM012324 Yeah, and it will still kick your ricer ass.

  • @foxmustangman sure if your v8 can stay running long enough

  • @DanM012324 It makes more sense to have 2 larger valves than 4 small ones, less things to go wrong. Why is it that American engineers tend to hate simplicity with a vengeance? All alloy was a good move, as was proper individual coil packs. They managed to keep that simple.

  • @Mechknight73 Valvetrain failures are very, very rare. The Honda B series engine is an example of that as it is statistically the most reliable engine ever produced and has 4 valves/cylinder. Also, It makes sense for the performance of an engine to have 4 small valves. The vast majority of the time 4 valve engines offer more torque, power and fuel efficiency when compared with 2 valve engines of the same size.

  • Nice 3D. I'm wondering if you could make ome like this with an automatic transmission that would be perfect can you ?

  • GREAT !!!!!!!!

  • ONE MAJOR REASON WHY A CONVENTIONAL ENGINE IS NOT EFFICIENT

Say piston stroke= 3 inches. The crank arm rotation distance from TDC to BDC =pi( 1.5)= 4.715 in.

Crank arm excess rotation distance before piston reach BDC=4.715- piston stroke=

    1.715 in.

    NOTE:

Piston travel has no delay if: piston stroke= crank arm rotation distance from TDC to BDC.

Due to large amount of PISTON DELAYED TRAVEL more heat energy is lost to the engine frame & jacket.

    Solution: see,SUPER-EFFICIENT ENGINE (PART 3)

  • @died4hislove I already told you why that design wont work. and conventional engines are inefficient because of primitive valve timing, friction and spring returned valves and that the piston ribs against the cylinder wall all the time.

actuated rolling cylinder valve can fix the valve issue, a rocker piston on pivot off to the side in a curved cylinder can solve the wall friction issue and run without lubrication

  • dude how much time did it take you to model all those parts????

  • @MrTfournier I'm guessing he works for GM

  • wow cool animation i good idea i just used was to download it and use spiro creator to make a screensaver out of it no mi screensaver is a building of this engine lol

  • I've got questions. How many parts does it consist of? How many sub-assemblys? What was the total work time, and did you do it all on your own? It is very nice and I have to do a 9 Cylinder Radial Aircraft Engine all by myself.

  • Nice!

  • Neat animation - now it's time to fire it up!

  • where they are the rings pistons??????

  • well known

  • i was told the corvette motor has the starter mounted on the top of the motor. is that true? I know the motors in the cayennes are.

  • not quite sure how that would work. Unless the whole engine is upside down for some ridiculous reason like the lower part of the engine is going to need more work than the top. Lol

  • lovely touch how u even spun the negine to get the pistions in they are very good engines i think u can screw 100hp with just bolt on parts u dont have to change any of the internals love the coil packs on the rocker covers gives it a tuff look

  • Great video! Was that designed on Solidworks?

  • wow a v8 More PWN

  • now i really know how the ohv works.

  • wirklich toll gemacht

  • hahaha its like do it your self engine!!!!

  • once an engine is out of the car a monkey could take it apart. lol its not as hard as it seems. Its more like having the right tools to do it rather than spending 5 hours studying/looking up how to do it. but obviously much easier if you know tool and part names. like I once needed a 13mm 12pt shallow non impact socket to take off the head bolts.... which were in the cylinder head. pretty simple if you're seeing it in person.

  • the Ls v8s that Chevy put out are the best engines you can buy if you are looking for something that is going to be a daily driven, but still a lot of torque. v10 vipers, v12 Ferrari's are awesome...but you take a hit in weight, and a HUGE hit in MPG. which the Ls1 excels in. The v10 is for show. The dodge viper would be better off with a worked v8 hemi.

  • I like those older Camaro's and Mustangs. Their engines had to move a much heavier car and had more horsepower to do so. If you replace the metal body with all fiberglass itll free up some extra horse power to the wheels and sounds amazing too. Newer ones...the Ford 4.6 is just disappointing. I refuse to buy one.

  • I don't see where you're getting that from. 1967 Camaros weighed roughly 3,300 pounds, yet they had a full metal body. They were relatively light in today's standards. The fifth generation Camaros weigh nearly 4,000 pounds.

How does less weight get more power to the wheels? It doesn't, unless you're talking along the lines of a lightened driveshaft, or a more efficient transmission or differential.

I'm a fan of the Ford 4.6, as well. There are a few around making over 800 RWHP.

  • Going to Put this Beauty in my 350Z.

Don't like the idea of F/I in my 350z.

also, LS2 is very light motor.

LSX are well respected by Non-american car owners as well as American car owners!!

  • Great video!! Its an LS3 by the way (rectangle port heads). Doesn't have to be a OHC to be a good motor!! They stick with old tech. because it work... and works very well! Gm makes the highest quality motors out there.

  • I agree. I think that the best thing for GM to do is try to strike up deals with other companies to where they provide the engine/transmission. Rx8 ls3/370z ls3/mustang gt ls3...I would say that it would really provide some awesome opportunity for both parties.

  • that engine sucks...it's not even OHC

  • nice video. can't say that about the engine

  • super video felizidades

  • feli Z idades eh muito legal neh mano

  • beautiful piece of work! congrats!

  • its like watching Dr. Manhattan build something

  • Ah, if only it were always that quick and easy to assemble and engine.

  • I would perfere the srt 10

  • Every GM Warranty is a FRAUD. There is no GM Warranty!

The alleged GM Warranty is really a Sitel Corporation Warranty administered by the Sitel Corporation. They have Sitel Employees using GM Letterhead paper and POSING as GM employees to defraud GM Customers.

    GM Governance belong in prison.

This site won't let me post a web address but do a search under CleanUpFlorida

  • albero a camme centrale aste bilancieri

  • the greatest thing about the ls-series engine is the aftermarket...not just the aftermarket, but the huge following that comes along with the long lived small block chevy. the sbc is probably the most popular engine in performance and motorsports ever. i have an e36 m3 with a 3.2L I6 that weighs 100lbs more than a 7.0L LS7 V8.

they are light, powerful, affordable, strong, and more race proven than anything ever made.

you're very limited as far as upgrades and aftermarkets go with bmw and

  • Hahahahaha banqkrupt engine

GM never made anything worth showing for

If you want a propher engine get a itallian or German engine

  • Which is why the LS7-R won some kind of Global Race Engine of the Year Award?

  • oh...... by proper you mean the less powerful ones

  • So true. If you want a proper engine go buy a AMG Mercedes. Every engine is hand built by the same mechanic.

"One engine, one man"... something like that.

  • that was awesome

  • Check out the rectangular ports on the heads - those aren't 243s...lol

  • thats a pretty awesome animation!!

  • Its funny, cause that LS2 engine is compact, light, powerful, reliable, easy to maintain, easy to upgrade, easy to service, incredibly fuel effecient for a large engine. Considering its a pushrod, they've really pushed the tech. to the max and made a engine that can kick a B.M.W m3 engine any day of the week... People without any knowledge or a little respect make me sick.....

  • must be why BMW is filing for bankruptcy...oh wait.

  • It's true they are not but that's because they don't have to worry about true competition given the massive amount of governmental subsidy that is provided them.

  • it's not that we don't know, it's just we hate the engine, it's not a technical marvel.

the bmw can get an acceptable fuel economy while being @ traffic jams in the morning.

because it has variable adjusting cams.

the pushrod engine wil reach the end of production in les than 5 years or close to it.

heck, it doesn't even have automatic valve adjuster, meaning you need to see a docter every 20.000 m or so.

while the bmw never needs to be check at it's valves, so who is better?

  • Then your post should be a source of great embarrasment because a simplistic, antiquated engine (Corvette) built by rednecks just won the GT1 class at LeMans recently against a host of engines that are far superior in concept and design. What say you?

  • @FeralTurtle Do you even know what engine the M3 has? The older, in line 6, was just amazing. Nobody puts the dots between BMW.

  • @FeralTurtle Well said! Props to you my friend! GO GM!

  • @FeralTurtle perhaps for v engines pushrod is a way for reducing the weight of the moving parts. with better results. very nice comment

  • G.M needs to stop being so greedy and put more money in there technology. Example the new B.M.W m3 engine the most advanced v8 in the same price range.

  • yes but chevy is still a more powerfull car

  • maybe the old engine is, but the chassis sucks.

    what about the gasstation?

it doesn't even have a variable cam system, like most other do.

so this engine wil never ever be efficient, but burn fuel.

  • GM has been actually testing the new cam-in-cam VVT system for pushrod engines. Look it up, it was first used on the newest, and probably last, generation of Dodge Viper.

  • To be fair, Europeans have to be more concerned with fuel economy because they pay 3-5 times the price for petrol. It can also be said that their emission standards cut power because they are much quieter i.e. restricted than US cars.

  • most people would take a reliable car over powerfull or faster car any day. I am sure normal people would not like to keep taking their cars to service. GM does need to learn a thing or two from foreign car companies (not from Hundai or Kia though)

  • Humm.. pushrod engine are far more reliable than any japanese engines. The LS engines have set countless endurance records.

  • sure lets see some evidence

  • suck it GM suck it

and i like ford it"s a big seller in Europe

  • banqkrupt engine JAJAJAJAJAJA

  • ah so it would appear that it is still used in current. I think this design needs a DOHC.

  • If you read the history of this engine you'll know why they didn't design it as a DOHC. It requires less maintenance , is more reliable and costs less to build and it was generally designed for the north american market . It did win Ward engine of the year award it's first year out in 97 .

  • what year is this engine?

  • wow thats a bad ass video, I wish i could have it as a screensaver

  • look at the info.

  • theres a link for the screen saver on the right

  • seems like alot people here hates american cars lol

  • are you sure ! the American engine is the best engines in the world brother

  • @aseer52 yea right, japs clean up, americans are meatheads

  • @25det You sir are a meathead.

  • great engine

  • gm sucks...engines may catch on fire now...1.5 million car recall....cheap parts + cheap quality = bad reliability

  • yea ls9 are a older engine Gm NOW sucks used to be good now they have the same fate as detroit

  • hey genius stop listening to the left wing liberal media that only rats on american cars guess what toyota had 2.3 million recalls for an oil sludge problem a few years ago but the news didnt report that cuz toyota kept it hush hush and didnt try to contact the owners publicly like gm does secondly if gm eninges suck than why does toyota use chevy blocks in their nascar race cars? stop acting like u no ur shit ur like 13 ur name says it all u dont no jack on cars and i no ur not ASE certified.

  • somebody should tell them that engine isnt going to run they forgot the cam barings lol

  • pfff 1 cam and pushrod valves...great engine...for the 50s

  • does anyone know a web site where i can download it and ur able to build a motor

    thats free

  • Free? maybe you can download something illegal, but dont forget that we dont live in a free society.

The program that was used to make this engine took a lot of engineers to make this pretty animation.

Now if you can download any 3d CAD software, im pretty sure u'll just abandon it in a few hours because it will overwhelm you with complexity

Im actually buildin an engine in 3d software. but i've been doin 3d stuff for years and im still learning.

do some research before u ask for free stuff

  • G.M. Government Motors. Push Rod Engines! What Year is GM in?

  • thats awesome

  • very cool

  • nice ls2 with the l92 heads and l76 intake

  • Oh OK, ..so THATS how a piece-of-shit gets put together! Thanks for the warning!!!

  • how is that a piece of shit engine?

  • you tell me what piece of shit your driving and and ill tell you how that piece of shit gets put together cuz the new vette spanks the new Shelby all day

  • @bigjimmy0922 screw him dude he drives a 98 sebring lol

  • To sebring98:_____They should show how a sebring engine gets put together then people would really laugh
