  • Also I think it's this game that had the most impressive lighting effects on the glowing disc brakes till nowadays...

MSR also had awesome lighting effect on the brake lights!!

  • This was the only 2h hour le mans game that was actually good.

The PS2 and any other version were really a freakin crap.

This and MSR were really amazing back then, and even nowadays in a CRT TV they still look pretty HD (just don't look good in a LCD of course because there's way too much resolution in LCD's...).

  • The elders thought it was real! lol awesome, great game!!!!

  • I'm still astonished how good this game looks for its age.

  • Having played this game just now I can say, strangely, this video makes the game look better than it really is. Perhaps it's because I play it on a 30-ish inch TV, but the graphics are quite bland, and locations are boring. However, the game plays very well. Pity, at the moment, I can only play 4 tracks 4 player split screen. Hopefully after beating championship it'll give more tracks.

  • @Terramax Do you have a VGA box ? Im playing it on a 26" Toshiba LCD with VGA output and the video doesnt do the game justice at all.

  • @bacardipr05

No, not playing it with VGA anymore. Personally I don't think VGA increases the graphics the way people always says it does. But as stated before, it still plays great.

  • @Terramax I dont know Terra its a world of difference to me between composite connection and VGA. Colors are more vibrant, sharper, better details more crisp and of course better resolution.

  • @Terramax Some games the diffence isnt huge, however i just went back to composite with this game and swithced to VGA their is a difference

  • I remember the graphics being much better than this. The cars looks good though. Ferrari Challenge on Wii looks much better.

  • @Despellanion Play it on a LCD with a VGA input using a VGA box. The video doesnt do it justice...

  • omg, DC had a lot of potential, i'ts a pity it didn't have a dvd drive

  • this game has some pop up/draw in issues....... it's the only graphical flaw,,, wonder why the developer's didn't fix it

  • @aubba Common problem back in the day. The draw in isnt really to bad though.

  • dreamcast had more texture detail and color because it had twice as much videoram than the ps2!! 16 mb instead of 8 mb. games like shenmue 2 really show that in character detail

  • One of my all time fav games. PS2 version sucked!

  • this game has the easiest car control ever and you drive like shit

  • @FriendlyCroock ....Not really, try playing it without the driving assistance then say its easy. This game makes you work if you want to be good at it.

  • The ps2 wasn't quite so weak. The ability of game programmers to implement software anti-aliasing, mip mapping, texture compression, and even bump mapping, without gimping the ps2 cpu too much is a testament to the ps2's power. Processor speed means little when you have great programmers. Though it took programmers more than 3 years to "fix" the ps2. The ps2 surpassed dc in 2005 imo with Path of Neo. Some areas were fully bump mapped which was thought to be impossible in a ps2. Meh game tho

  • @Tinhh I agree however in dreamcasts case it was very unfair that it basically only had a 2 year run. we never know what more could've been achieved although ps2 had more potential of course I think it was still overhyped and sony spread many lies about it. no game came even close to 60 million polygons a second.

  • It's kinda funny how a while ago and probably still today people still think poly count is important. Dreamcast was a low poly console but polygon count is not important. Sega had the right idea of quality gameplay textures and anti-aliasing. It's funny how the ps2 GC and xbox boasted poly count but many games sacrificed poly for textures. for example ps2 gt4. GT4 had much less polys than xbox forza but looked better due to real time relections and better artistic textures. and lighting.

  • @drunkensailor112 ...Actually the PS2 can produce that many polys but, thats if its just dumping out polys. Input some A.I., lighting effects, game physics, shadows, etc. and that number definitly is so unrealistic.....VIVA LA DREAMCAST!!!!!!!!!!

  • Watch this : Q8FwMx9xES4

I uploaded a video of Grand Prix challenge for the ps2. GPC was made by the same developers of test drive le mans for the dreamcast. In an interview Melbourne House, the developers, stated that GPC could not run on any other console except the ps2. Google "Melbourne House Gamespot Q&A". 22 cars on track, 20k polygons each(le mans =5k) with reflections and shadowing, etc. 60FPS unlike dreamcast 30fps le mans. No clipping issues unlike le mans too. Year? 2002.

  • @Tinhh One problem with using this as an example- the PowerVR2 in the Dreamcast supports bump mapping in hardware. No games really used it for anything special. One game is known to use it- Shenmue II. On a couple coins in the item view- some bump mapping is visible, if I remember right. That's about it. What irks me, is that developers wasted their time doing shit in software for the PS2 right after the DC died- when the DC could do it in hardware!

  • It's not wasting time really working for a complicated console that requires complex software coding. Sony wasn't the first to do that btw; Sega with their 32x and saturn were hard to program too. The benefit is that you can make the hardware last longer with new programming techniques. Making a console dependent on software also makes it more in theory, flexible and efficient. You should watch this: /watch?v=4TBct24_ZNQ

It explains how only 50% of the ps2 power was used

  • A problem I see with the dreamcast is the controller. Really touchy analog stick and no second analog stick. The power of the dreamcast seems to be exagerated by their fans a bit. About a year later after DC launch, sega released an improved arcade system that was stronger than the xbox. I think sega shouldve waited a while longer to develop a console based on the newer naomi 2 arcade system.

  • I used to have this game years ago and its true that it was a stunning game back in the day. I especially liked the tire imprints you left in the grass and how the weather could change over the course of a race. You should have done a vid in the rain to show everyone what the DC could really do.

One thing though, this game was eventually released on the PS2 with extra cars and tracks though I never got round to playing it to compare what the two games were like side by side.

  • I own this game and i must say it is the best dreamcast racer out there as far as graphics go.I havnt even played it on vga yet but i know its got to be better.

  • i really have to disagree with your comment at 1:10. how can the game's graphics be anything better than, for example, gran turismo 5? being an old game DOES NOT make it better than any newer game. i'm really pissed off at reading such comments from OLD COOTS WHO CAN'T KEEP UP WITH THE TIMES.

  • Wow the DC Version so looks better what have i have done been playing it on the PSX yet it was still good

  • When i got this game i thought something went wrong with my dreamcast, it looks a like 360 game. The graphics are simply amazing and it has nice gameplay

  • fuck graphics, just listening the music! its amazing!

  • WHAT THE HELL!? This is dreamcast? ... I thought you were joking, thought it was a PS3 or XBOX 360 game 0.o

Wow, i had this console once ( i think i still got it ) but the games eventually broke :(

  • Really this game the graphics are very good to be a game for dreamcast. Dreamcast but never had used all his power, the game that has the best graphics of the Dreamcast, the game is shenmue, shenmue but only using 60% of the power of the console. imagine a game, using the full potential of Dc, as would be beautiful

  • @TheFred128 Yes I agree 100%, I still think the DC would have left the PS2 in the dust if it went as long as the PS2 did.

  • @Thereal50inchDLP Wich Wii ypu mean?

  • Le Mans pushed 5 million polys (the 3 million "limit" was only ever an estimate, and one based on early DC dev kits). The Dreamcast's capabilities were barely used during its short lifespan, for example the DC could handle bump-mapping but only a handful of DC games (including Le Mans), mostly the "second generation" ones fully utilize it (compare the texture detail in Shenmue with Shenmue 2). 5 million plus polys + superior texturing ability...think fo what could have been achieved.

  • @Relugus Bearing in mind Dreamcast only had the best Sega first/second party programmers for less than 3 years (99-2000 and part of 2001) working 100% on the console, I think you're totally right.

I think something like 8 million (or maybe more) polygons and an amazing development on textures would've been acomplished in the following years if Sega didn't went third party and Mizuguchi, Suzuki, Hitmaker and all the masterminds didn't split.

  • one of my favs on my fav console of all times!

Last time i played it ,i was in the actual 24hr race in career mode!don`t know why i never finished it! Maybe i`ll gett to it now:)! I totally share your opinion on the game and on the console!! Dreamcast 4ever:)! Keep it cool! Cheers!

  • no sense of speed whatsoever though.
