@joker9494949494 This bolt doesn't belong with this rifle originally. There were many variants in WW2 that still had the straight bolt. For instance the Germans kept producing the Czechoslovakian VZ 24 as the Gewehr 24 (2) which is only slightly different. Same thing with the Polish Wz 29. rifle (German designation Gewehr 298 (p) ) The bolts are interchangeable.
no, that is a mauser, the mosin is MUCH cheaper made. by the way it's nothing special about the mauser, if you come to Noeway you can get lots of them, very cheap. i alread have 3
When you put the next bullet in to the chamber and discharge the old one you should never move the riflebutt from the shoulder but have it in the same position and use your right hand to move the bolt back and forth. Doing this will get you higher accuarcy when firing at the same target, you will not have to correct the aim as much, and you will get a higher fire rate.
I used the k98 mauser for three years on the firingrange and had instructions from people that acctualy used it in the army.
one of the reasons they put straight bolts on some of the k98's was so it would be easier for them to re-chamber a bullet while wearing gloves. This helped them tremendously on the frosty Russian front :D
@xpehbam68 здорово))) везет же вам, можете стрелять из Маузеров в прекрасном сохране. А у нас те, что продаются как охотничий карабин, все безбожно расстреляны, стволы изношены и т.д.
@Cthulu310 Both are guns; pieces of hardened steel. Saying one is better is akin to comparing apples to oranges; both will go bang when you pull the trigger and both are excellent rifles. It's true though, that the Mosin is built like a tank; dissassembly of the bolt reveals its extreme mechanical simplicity. It also has looser tolerances, generally, than a Mauser and will shoot when full of dirt, but the guns tend to be finnicky with ammo, inaccurate, and not as smooth.
@Cthulu310 So basically no, I wouldn't say that's true. The guns will endure more wear than you could possibly hope to put them through; mechanically, the M98's have notoriously strong actions. If you light them on fire and use the barrels to hammer in your tent poles and then put five rounds through them they'll still shoot just fine.
nice man, i just got a bcd code 42 last week, only difference is mine came with the fully curved bolt. judging by the stock you have, i assume yours came with a curved bolt as well, did you swap it out on purpose?
@acdcdave1387 This rifle come with the straigt bolt when I bought this rifle 2 years ago.I,m swap bolt last year.If you check my other video you can see this rifle with original curved bolt>
@xpehbam68 which do you like better the straight or the curved? my Yugo captured k98 has the curved, it kinda is the reason i've become almost obsessed with the mauser lol
@AGeekWithAShotgun lol fuck you buddy, play with your shot gun and butthole as much as you want punk, but if you wanna have faster target aquisition, such as the combative nature of a mauser was intended, you learn to do it from the shoulder...
I didn't think the Germans used a straight bolt. I thought they all had the fully bent bolts on the K98K rifles. I have a German capture VZ-24, reworked by the germans and stamped with the waffenamt even on the Czech parts, receiver and all. Bolt, receiver, floor plate and trigger guard numbers match, bent bolt, in good shape and she shoots like a dream. Has a dsh marked German K98K barrel on it from when the Germans reworked it to their specs. Love that rifle!
this must have been a earlier model of the k98k because of the bolt. its straight... The Germans would have adopted the curved bolt because the straight bolt would usually get in the way of the sights when you would pull the bolt up and back.
@coppincopp Very similar but this is indeed a (albeit Russian captured and modified 98k). With the earlier ones you're talking about you will typically see a straight bolt but this one still has the 98k stock with the indentation for the bent bolt. There is also a hooded front sight which the original gewehr 98 did not have. Depending on the gewehr 98 you would also see what has been dubbed as a roller coaster sight on the rear as opposed to the one here. Very very similar though.

this is a mod 98 k rifle from wwii for sure..ive heard stories that k98's issued to artillery units were manufactured with straight bolts for ease of access and operation..i could be wrong but i have heard it from multiple sources
Ive heard about geman border patrools getting a kar 98 (not K!) with a straight bolt. Something that was enforced even before ww2. But if so, or even if it is a k98 from a arty company its not a KAR 98K, K stands for short and means that the rifle has some other modifications than a crooked bolt...
well i like it better cos its a bit shorter and its not so heavy like ww1 but i have k98 and i like it better than any weapos ;) but if ww1 is better its better for you okey for me!:)
The most accurate mauser I have ever fired is my 1917 WWI issued 30-06 mauser. It's better quality then the newer ones I have and have fired. Not to mention it's rare, and more true to the original 1898 mauser design. It's heavier because it has a longer barrel and is heavier built, it's more reliable and with the longer barrel, more accurate like I said. That qualifies it as a better mauser, I think?
I've got a Kar98k that's a Russian Capture/Refurb, and it sight hood is missing. As for the straight bolt on it, the Russians must have altered it for one reason or another. I dunno lol Maybe it was someone who bought it after the war. Preferred straight bolts, perhaps.
You mean Karabiner 98 Kurz. It could have been switched out with a different bolt, It is clearly a shorter scale model of the Mauser 98 Gewehr. It would be a lot longer if it was.
It's for sure a 98k with a straight bolt handle. It may look weird or old, but I kinda dig the straight bolt. I think people who spend a lot of time firing them will find them near equal, the straight maybe even faster than the bent bolt. Either way, it's a wonderful piece of history and a good, fun video - thanks for posting!

Looks too me like a vz24 bolt. The Russians snagged quite a few of the Czechoslovakian mausers as well. very nice looking k98. They are quite the rifle.

ive never seen a mauser with a straight bolt? is this the earlier variant from ww1 era?
joker9494949494 3 months ago
@joker9494949494 This bolt doesn't belong with this rifle originally. There were many variants in WW2 that still had the straight bolt. For instance the Germans kept producing the Czechoslovakian VZ 24 as the Gewehr 24 (2) which is only slightly different. Same thing with the Polish Wz 29. rifle (German designation Gewehr 298 (p) ) The bolts are interchangeable.

Straight handled bolt? What's the real story with the rifle.
vanscoyoc 7 months ago
one of the reasons they put straight bolts on some of the k98's was so it would be easier for them to re-chamber a bullet while wearing gloves. This helped them tremendously on the frosty Russian front :D

@xpehbam68 здорово))) везет же вам, можете стрелять из Маузеров в прекрасном сохране. А у нас те, что продаются как охотничий карабин, все безбожно расстреляны, стволы изношены и т.д.
