  • Nice wallpaper border.. Good demo non-the-less.

  • @dbenc Thanks.

  • I'm looking at buying a Les Paul copy with alder body and ebony fretboard, and replacing the stock pickups with a Super Distortion at the Neck and a Super 3 at the bridge.

    What do you think?

  • @HoleHeadedLiar I'm not so sure about putting a Super Distortion in the neck because it's so high-output but it could work. The Super 3 in the bridge should sound great though.

  • @jakeusurungus Listen to the guy again, he said a "Super Distortion in the Bridge", not in the neck--- otay. An important part of life is understanding plain english. Watch the video again, but most important----listen & understand.

  • @flashy5150 He said "Super Distortion at the neck and a Super 3 at the bridge". The Super Distortion and the Super 3 are different pickups jackass. And by the way, for someone who preaches "understanding plain english" you sure as hell can't type it.

  • @flashy5150 you're a dumbass

  • @flashy5150 Fuck off faggot.

  • @flashy5150 Are you an idiot, read comments properly and dont assume things.

  • @HoleHeadedLiar

do NOT go for a super distortion in the neck, it will ruin your guitars sound!

if i were you i would go fx. with a Dimarzio air classic with either the super 3 or the super distortion.. or even a 59' .. the best way to treat a les paul is to add a vintage humbucker in the neck position and then you can go nuts with whatever medium or high output humbucker in the brigde that you're gonna use. :)

  • Which one is better DiMarzio Super Dist. or Seymour Duncan SH-6?

  • @iWreXx It all depends on what kind of sound you're going for. The Super Distortion is going to be crunchier and the SH-6 is going to have a little more body. They're both great.

  • anyone looking for versatility in metal should be looking at d-activators ... alvster - pickups will make a difference but whenever i look at guitars I focus on the acoustic sound of ANY guitar first because parts can always be changed but you cannot changed the sound/resonance the wood alone gives off ... I once paid $20 for a guitar at a yard sale and i have had friends offer me $800 for it (though i wont sell it because it pays incredibly) and i only put a d-activator neck into it

  • @randyrev21 A great point however you can considerably improve the sound of any instrument by swapping out low-quality components for high-quality ones. Also, the D-Activator is an epic sounding pickups. Extremely awesome metal tones with no battery. The only problem is that it's only purpose is to emulate active pickups. It's all about what you're trying to accomplish.

  • hey mate, i got an unbranded guitar, it sounds horrible, but what if i change the bridge pickups to dimarzio super distortion? will it works? does it make my guitar sounds good? help me here.

  • @alvster98 It will definitely help it sound better. I've put new pickups into crappy guitars and it can make a huge difference.

  • @jakeusurungus ok, thnx for the info, i appreciate it.

  • @alvster98 No problemo.

  • @jakeusurungus Anyway, i play heavy metal and metal stuffs, which is the best dimarzio pickups for heavy metal? Give me some suggestions bro. ;D

  • @alvster98 Looking at DiMarzios, If you want a rounder metal sound I would go for the Super 3 or the Tone Zone. The Tone Zone will be darker. If you want a crunchier metal tone I would go with the Super Distortion hands down.

  • @jakeusurungus oh well, i think i'll go for the Super Distortion. I love crunchy tone lol. Btw, Thnx again mate. :D

  • @alvster98 You'll love it man, I can almost guarantee it. Let me know if you dig it!

  • @jakeusurungus hellyeah dude!

  • @alvster98 absolutely ! go for it

  • um dude i have a question. Have u played the super distortion thru a peavey valveking ? does it sound if u havent would you think it would get a good tone with my epiphone les paul standard?

  • @ecgedsel I haven't played it though a Valveking specifically but I have played it through similar amps in a Les Paul and it sounds great.

  • Dude plz mann anser this question and it will be life saving lol. well im deff buying the super distortion for my Epi LP standard for bridge position. but i dont know which NECK pup to buy??!! which one would it make a god combo with. PAF, Air Norton, Air Classic, which one plzz reply :D

  • @ecgedsel It depends on what type of music you're going for. The standard choice would the PAF. If you wanted a warmer sound I'd go with the Air Norton. The Air Classic sounds a lot like the PAF but a little more "open" sounding.

  • can i install a PAF joe and super distortion on any les paul(probably les pauls from japan) with a metal cover on it?

  • @royalguard08 Yes you can.

  • u r still living at home in same bedroom? nice airplanes.

  • @sbogiam61 Not quite. This video was shot in the guest bedroom when I was a senior in high school.

  • where is the distortion

  • @92Metalhammer92 In the bridge.

  • Awesome airplanes bro.

  • @VHTLtdDimarzio Thank brah.

  • Its Mr. H&R Puffin to you, :P

  • @HandRpuffin Yes sir lol.

  • Have you had a chance to test the Super Distortion thru different tube amps, ones equipped with kt88s or 6l6s?

  • @HandRpuffin Yup. I played a Marshall Vintage Modern (KT66s) and a Mesa Road King. It sounds awesome through both, it really does.

  • @jakeusurungus Okie dokie. I'll just make like a tree and.....get outta here. Or is it leave?

  • @HandRpuffin Haha, stick around man! There's always room for one more lol.

  • I see a Zeppelin poster!

  • @1996songwriter From back in the gap lol.

  • @jakeusurungus Also diggen the Edward Scissorhands poster, one of my favorite movies.

  • @1996songwriter I agree.

  • im trying to get that 80's metal sound and someone pointed me in this direction. ive got a gibson explorer and marshall half stack and its got the sweetes blues tones and a great metal tone. but i cant achieve this 80's distortion i have an old epi speical model 2 and was wondering what would happen if i threw one of these pick ups in its bridge and added a tremolo

  • @16Hairmetal80s I love the Super Distortion for it's great balance of tones, but it absolutely kicks ass for 80's metal. I would highly recommend it.

  • @16Hairmetal80s i agree with what jakeusurungus says!!! but it can also be the distortion pedal, or lack of one. if you get this pick up, and a good distortion pedal you'll be sounding just like 80's shit!!!!! thats what i plan to do when i get a new guitar, and a new distortion pedl!!!

  • @16Hairmetal80s well i think you should change your guitar instead of putting new pickups into a 150$ guitar

  • @TheHellraiserc7 While you do have a point, you'd be surprised how much of a difference a great set of pickups makes in any guitar... even a $3k Les Paul lol.

  • @jakeusurungus yeah i agree that pickups makes a big difference! but its nice to have good pickups in a good guitar lol:P btw i have a les paul special model, not the special 2 lol its a good guitar for the price for beginners!

  • @16Hairmetal80s What you really need is a neon windbreaker and acid washed jeans... that will do more for your tone than anything... heh, but seriously, it's all about EQ for the 80's style. It's a very thin sound, imho.. probably because they were using guitars made out of plastic, but just pick up an EQ pedal and wing it. Then you can turn it off/on easily.

  • hey man how do you find your marshall 1960 cab?

any good? im thinking of getting a cabinet and im a little lost on what would be worth buying

  • @jamesbonello1 Well Marshall makes three main cabs. One is the 1960A/1960B which both come with Celestion G12T-75 speakers. Another is the 1960AV/BV which both come with Celestion Vintage 30s. And the final is the 1960AX/BX which comes with Celestion Greenbacks.

The G12T-75's are the most modern sounding with a pretty balanced EQ

The Vintage 30's have a boosted mid sound for a more fat and crunchy tone.

The Greenbacks are the most vintage sounding, almost in between the other two.

  • Dude, the airplane walllpaper is SWEEET!

  • @spauldingrules Like rock candy.

  • Is the PAF a PAF Pro, PAF Joe, or PAF 36th anniversary?

  • @The1970sInfatuate It's an older model. It's closest to the PAF 36th.

  • can you tell me what you were playing in the clean demo? That was fuckin' sick, and I never know what clean riffs to learn, I'm new to the blues.

  • @skatefallen15 It's a pentatonic minor lick in E (your basic blues/rock scale).

  • @jakeusurungus

oh I thought it was actually a song lol, nice job though

  • @skatefallen15 Haha, thanks man.

  • Would the super distortion pickup be good for metallica/ pantera style playings

  • @QueSchaun13 Hell yeah.

  • Okay guys, enough with the F-Spaced vs. Regular Spaced responses lol.

  • hey, is the super distortion good for playing metal?

  • @wowspare Absolutely. It's a warmer metal sound, like old school Maiden with medium gain and kindof like a warmer SoaD with higher gain.

  • @jakeusurungus can u get a lamb of god sound with this?

  • @wowspare Definitely. The Super Distortion covers all but the strangest metal tones lol. It sounds great.

  • When they say f-spaced and g spaced that means F for Fenders and G for Gibsons right?

  • @PennybagDarrell To be honest, I don't know exactly what it stands for lol. But F-Spaced isn't just for Fenders.

  • @jakeusurungus

F-Spaced are generally for fenders and floyd rose models. The poles are spaces slightly further apart, whereas gibsons strings are closer together.

  • @jakeusurungus F-Spacing is for tremolo equipped guitars, so like anything with a fender style tremolo or a guitar with a floyd rose style trem. The spacing of the pole pieces wont line up exactly right if you don't use an F Spacing humbucker with trem equipped guitars. Peace!

  • @PennybagDarrell f-spaced are a little bigger in width, invented to match floyd-rose's width. Non f-spaced are slightly smaller in width and are made for some non floyd rose guitars. If you use a non-fspaced hum in a floyd rose guitar you will probably lose enough frequencies. My answers is very generic though, you must know exactly the specifications of your guitar in order to buy the right pickup. Do some research on the net ;)

  • @PennybagDarrell F spaced is for Floyd Rose. The trems have a wider space than fixed bridge p.u.'s.

  • @PennybagDarrell f spaced is for floyd rose tremlo

  • LOVE your wallpaper lol!

  • @Mustang1204 Thanks!

  • Anyone have any idea if the super distortion would sound good coil tapped?

  • @PrsFenderJackson1980 You're probably looking for someone else to respond lol, but it sounds great!

  • @jakeusurungus You again? Great. lol. jk. Thinking of getting a Mira that has coil tapping option.

  • @PrsFenderJackson1980 Haha, very cool.

  • @kevin957 Yes it is.

  • HE-MAN and the Masters of the Universe. "......the day I held out my magic sword and said, I.....HAVE.....THE POWER"

  • is this combo good for basswood guitars and shredders?

  • AYe Jake, I got my Dimarzio Super Distortion in and working, but it isnt as bassy as people say it is...Actually my previous pick up was even bassier.....

  • @InFuriatedShadows Interesting. How do you like it?

  • @jakeusurungus, I kinda like it. I just raised the pick up more, and MAN! what crunch! It even distorts on the clean channel on my amp at low volumes! But, I'm kinda disappointed it doesnt have that bass I was expecting. it has more treble than bass it seems. Damn you DImarzio for being inaccurate! But Im not gunna hate, It is a badass tone :)

  • @InFuriatedShadows Haha, cool. Yeah, none of the DiMarzio humbuckers have a super bassy sound lol.

  • What exactly does F spaced mean?

  • @MaxtheMetalhead F-Spaced means that the spacing between the pole pieces of the pickup is wider to fit a wider string spacing on particular guitars.

  • i like yor wall paper. hah

  • @Casebomb Thanks lol.

  • Ok I am going bloody mad. Just bought a Fender Fat Strat. Now comes the horrible and I mean horrible task of finding dimarzio pickups that will work. Fred, Paf Pro, Tone Zone, Air Zone, Super Distortion, Paf 36th anniversary(bridge version). I'm in hell and heaven all at the same time.

  • @PrsFenderJackson1980 Haha, congratulations! You're experiencing one of life's great paradoxes lol. The key on any fat strat (in my opinion) is finding a bridge pickup that balances well with whatever single-coils you have (be they Fender or otherwise).

  • MY SUPER DISTORTION ARRIVED!

  • Haha, finally man! Let me know what you think once you're good to go!

  • hay if i were u i would get a first act practice amp at least it will have a distortion chanal but if u use it enough and then turn it to ten and play a hendrix like solo ull blow the fucker up jk but the clean chanal sounds like shit after a while

  • what is a good amp for hopefully less than $100 and is great for playing thrash/heavy metal?

  • none ^^

  • higain2 has a comedic point... it'd be really hard to find a decent amp for under $100. To be honest, there aren't many amps that are under $100 to start with. Sorry man, I can't really help you out.

  • ok, so i guess my music store either has crapy amps or amazing deals, the most expensive they have is about 150. but anyways, what is a good amp for metal, this time without price limits

  • Without price limits?

I'm partial to Marshall amps, so I would say either a DSL or a JVM (I prefer the DSL).

The Peavey 6505 (previously 5150) amps are great for metal.

I'm not a Mesa Boogie guy, but a lot of people like the Triple Rectifier tone for metal.

  • Boogie Mark series is way better than rectos, no offense.

  • I totally agree, I only said rectifiers because the Marks are so hard to find.

  • and the rectifiers are a bit less expencive if im not mistaken

  • @ixcaliber something good and covers alot, id go with a bugera 333xl combo or stack, best 650 youll spend on a combo or like what 800 on a stack, itll last you a while and give you a good range of sounds

  • nothing. u have to spend at least $1000 for a decent TUBE amp. i would recommend marshall dsl 100 strongly

  • @ixcaliber

just get a line6 pod or something.

  • That's a good idea.

  • Ok here we go. Looking for opinions on pickup combos, that could go with Classic Rock, Hard Rock, maybe Metal. Emg 85 x(bridge & neck), Super Distortion and Paf Joe, Bill Lawrence L-500xl and '59 model, X2N and Paf Pro, Jb and '59 model, EVH Frankenstein humbucker and '57 Classic, Super 3 and Paf Pro, Duncan Custom and Jazz Model. Anyone can answer this. List the previously mention pickup combos in order of ability from best to worst, 1= best 10= worst. Thank you for your time.

  • They're all good combos but I'd be super curious about the EVH pickup.

  • Well the emgx are quite good but they re mor for metal and heavy riffs and shred(not as hard as the normal EMG though). Jb and 59' or duncan custom and jazz are also good. But the best is a mix of what you have, it is also what i am going to use: A paf pro and a super distortion.

  • what order were the pickups in?

  • PAF, then both, then Super Distortion for clean and then distortion.

  • I got an sg g-400 epiphone and i'm thinking of getting the super distoration as my bridge and something else any recommendations or reasons i shouldm't get the super distortion?

  • I don't think there's any reason not to get one, I love 'em.

The main complaint that people have about them is that they're either too bass/mid heavy or that they don't clean up well.

They are bass/mid heavy, so that's just a matter of taste.

They clean up great when switching to a clean channel but they stay a little gritty when you roll down your volume.

It's all about what you like.

  • alright then i think i will go for the super D :)

which would be a better soloing sweet yet define neck pickup for basswood? would u recommend a evolution neck pickup?

i read a forum...it says tht breed neck isnt a metal pickup,is that true?

  • A fine choice.

The Evo neck pickup is nice, but I wouldn't say that it sings. To me, Alnico magnet powered neck pickups sing better and generally have better clarity. PAF Pro or Air Norton would be my two examples.

The reason people say that is because it's such a bass-heavy neck pickup that it tends to get muddy under high-gain and it's not super clear or singy.

  • alright.. would you recommend me to get the super distortion or the super3 for my rg then?

is the breed sweet sounding though?do u recommend a super distortion or super 3 with a liquifire?

  • I would recommend the Super Distortion over the Super 3 unless you want a really fat sound. The Super Distortion has a great balance of attack and bass/midrange while the Super 3 is very thick and has less treble attack.

I wouldn't call the Breed "sweet", but it does have a mellow quality because it's so thick.

I've only heard the Liquifire on the new DT album Black Clouds, but I understand it's basically a warmer version of the Air Norton so yes, I would recommend it.

  • oh okay...i was thinking putting the super Distortion in the bridge and a breed in the neck in my rg1570 basswood, what do u think?

is the super distortion a versatile pickup?

  • The Super Distortion is a great and very versatile pickup. The only thing that most people complain about is that it doesn't clean up well when you roll the volume down. However, I personally like the grittier clean sound so it suits me. On a true clean channel it shines.

The Breed is a great neck pickup but it's very high output and thick sounding. It's not quite as "open" as the PAF Pro or the Air Norton but it's a great big sound.

  • oh,so does tht mean u recommend the super distortion over the other 2 as it has best of both world? but i heard evolution arent good for riffs/chords..

    define "open"sounding.=D

  • I don't want to say that the Super Distortion is the "best", it's just different. The Evo is more of a screamer and the Super Distortion is a heavier midrangy sound. It all depends on what kind of sound you're going for.

By "open" I mean that the Air Norton and PAF Pro are both clean sounding neck pickups, they don't get muddy easily even when playing chords under distortion. And like I said, the Air Norton is the warmer of the two, while the PAF Pro is more "open" and treble heavy.

  • these are good pickups, I am a DiMarzio's fan, but original gibson pickups(498 and 500) are heavier, I dont know why you changed them...

  • My guitar was made in '69, way before Gibson made the 498 and 500 models haha.

  • hi m plannin to change the pickups of my guitar i hav an ibanez prestige 2550Z

i play want a heavy metal+ satriani tone+lots of sustain....can u recommend me a combination for neck n bridge pickups...

i personaly was thinkin of buyin Mo Joe for neck and evolution in bridge postion...

    what do u say??

and please reply soon as i hav to order the pickups iwithin 5 days..

  • To be honest, Satriani's tone is not heavy metal sounding at all, so it's tough to mix that with a heavy metal sound. My recommendation would be either a D Sonic or the new Crunch Lab. Both are fat (Satriani style) but can still handle metal well.

A Mo' Joe would be a good neck pickups choice if you want a really high output neck pickup. If you got something else, I'd recommend the PAF Pro or PAF Joe to get a Satriani neck sound that can still handle heavy metal.

  • i have an ibanez 1570 prestige, made of basswood.which bridge pickup would u recommend?super 3,super distortion or evolution?also, which neck pickup would u recommend to work with the bridge pickup tht u recommend? i want a crunchy, punchy, defined, crystal clear yet nice cleans for the bridge and a singing neck pickup.thanks=)

  • If you're going for a more crunchy, screaming, clear tone I would recommend the Evolution in the bridge. The Super 3 will be the fattest and most "round" of the three and the Super Distortion would be the middle ground between the two.

As far as the neck pickups goes, if you want a more round but punchy singing tone I would try either the Air Norton or the PAF Pro. The Air Norton will be warmer and the PAF Pro will be more "open".

  • I'm sure my Super Distortion is going to sound great with my Les Paul. If the guitar tech ever gets done installing it.

  • For the record man, soldering is pretty simple and it's all that you need to know how to do if you want to install your own pickups. You should give it a try some time.

  • Yeah. But for some strange reason... When I tried to unsolder it, it wouldn't melt, and my soldering iron was like, heated to the max.

  • Yeah, sometimes it can be tough to get old solder to melt so that you can remove the connection.

Try using different surfaces of the soldering iron's tip. If the actual tip of the iron doesn't get the job done, sometimes the side of the tip is a bit hotter (especially if you haven't cleaned the tip in a while) just watch out for the sides of the cavity, you don't want to fry your guitar haha.

  • Just like playing Operation! Except, that needle thing is like 400 degrees. Next guitar I'm going to get... I'm making sure it's going to be one humbucker, one volume. Even if that means building it myself. XD

  • Haha, exactly!

Yeah, that's a great setup. One day I'd really like a guitar with that setup.

  • Yeah, I play punk music, so, I only need one pickup, and hell, DiMarzio Super Distortion? Best Bridge Pickup out there (at least for punk!). It's nice, warm, yet, retains some nice high end. I love it.

  • For sure man. It's a hell of a pickup.

  • It makes my Laney TF200 sound better than the Grunge settings on my Digitech RP70! Okay, maybe not that good, but, for no external EQ... Pssh. That's one hell of a sound.

  • Very nice! What value are your potentiometers?

  • 500k

  • I´ve got a Super Distortion in my Les Paul Custom. Great Pick Up!

But next Pick Up will be Gibson PAF Pro or Burstbucker:)

  • The PAF Pro definitely sounds kick ass. The Burstbuckers sound really good for an accurate vintage style tone.

  • I´ve tested the Burstbucker in Epiphone Les Paul Joe Perry Boneyard.

I liked it´s hard distorted sound in the bridge position;)

  • Yeah, it's a great raunchy tone.

  • hi dude i broke my ibanez s470 bridge humbucker, but im searching a good pick, i play metal, i like play like steve vai, metal like Arch Enemy, judas priest but my opcions are between the Dimarzio's tone zone, super distortion or the evolution bridge pickup, who is better, please i need help

  • The Tone Zone will be the fattest, the Evo will be the brightest, and the Super Distortion will be somewhere in between.

If you want a great metal pickup with lots of scream and lots of cutting through the mix go with the Evo.

If you want a still cutting sound but thicker go with the Super Distortion.

If you just want a fat and heavy sound, go with the Tone Zone.

  • what would be a good combo of pups in my ibanez iceman ic400, i recently took the super distortion out for the dimebucker and dont like it, i play heavy metal

  • Why didn't you like the Super Distortion or the Dimebucker?

Telling me why you didn't like those two will give me a much better idea of what you should try.

  • Has anyone done a shootout between Duncan Distortion(bridge) Jazz Model(neck) and Super Distortion(bridge) PAF(neck)? Or anyone have an opinion on which would or does sound better?

  • I haven't seen any comparison of those pickups specifically, but I think that the Dimarzios sound better. I used to have a Fat Strat with a Duncan Distortion and it sounded good, but it just doesn't have the balls or the character of the Super Distortion. As far as the neck pickups go, the Jazz just gets dull in my opinion while the PAF keeps a very open and interesting sound.

  • @jakeusurungus Thanks for the reply. I knew you would favor Dimarzios. I happen to have Super Distortion, Air Norton, PAF Pro(f-spaced), Super 3(F-spaced), and a set of D Activators. lol. Not in any guitar/s yet, but looking to buy a Gibson LP Traditional. Just looking around for a opinion or two.

  • Haha, I think if I've obtained any reputation it's for being a Dimarzio freak :p

Dude, you should totally try those out! Those are all wicked pickups and would all sound great!

I'm sure you'll get some good opinions too, didn't mean to spam you haha.

  • @jakeusurungus Fine be that way. jk. Have you tried to play Iron Maiden songs or Led Zepplin?

  • I'm a Zeppelin freak, so absolutely. I also really like Iron Maiden so yes again!

For Zeppelin, it's a great sound but it sounds nothing like Jimmy Page haha; you have to tailor the amp for that kind of thing.

For Iron Maiden it f***ing rocks. It really nails that old school fat sound that's on almost all of their older records.

  • Super 3 or Super distortion in the bridge?

  • Personally, definitely a Super Distortion. The Super 3 is even fatter (if you can imagine that :p) than the Super Distortion. They both sound great, but they're just different. For the Super Distortion sound think Kiss or Patrick Droney. For the Super 3 think Def Leppard.

  • @jakeusurungus, hmm, What makes you prefer the super distortion? :D I think the Super distortion is a little more cutting through and has more mid range...I think I dig it more than the super 3(even though the super 3 is fatter).

  • That's a good description of the Super Distortion.

I prefer it for the facts that it cuts through better and it's got a great fat tone. I like it more for leads than rythm as it tends to be a little too thick for me.

  • @InFuriatedShadows CAAL DIMARZIO AND ASK THEM TO SEND U A CATALOG U WONT HAVE TO ASK GUYS THAT ARE PARTICULAR TO A SPECIFIC PICKUP THEY ALWAYS THINK THERE SHIT IS TOPS THE SUPER IS THE SECOND HEAVYIEST PUP BEHIND THE Y2N (BRIDGE PICKUPS)

  • @metalmusiqcrzy, I have now ordered a super distortion f spaced pickup! :D I dun think the X2N will fit my needs cuz it just has too much output.

  • The Super Distortion definitely have more character in my opinion. Let me know how it sounds once you get it installed man!

  • @jakeusurungus, aihgt man. The distributer has not yet answered the fuckin' phone to my music store >:(

  • Dude, chill.

I'm not biased and in almost every response I tell the person concerned that it boils down to personal preference.

  • Killer Airplane wallpaper dude

  • Thanks man.

  • So i went for Dime like Buckers in my Gibson SG Standard, neck: Seymour Duncan SH-1 '59, Bridge: Bill Lawrence L500R. Give me some opinions

  • I'm not a huge Duncan guy, but I do like the '59 in both positions. It's a great sounding pickup.

The high output Dime-esque pickup in the bridge is a great choice if you like a bright high-output sound. Much better than EMGs if you ask me.
