slash is such an overrated guitarist, he's not even that good. Not to sound like a dick or anything, but I am better than him and i'm a jazz guitarist.
@chocolatedonut31 Not sure what your point is. He has sold millions of records and you haven't so instead of complaining to me go ahead and write some songs. I personally prefer his playing to any jazz artist. U can't rate music by skills, it's only a matter of taste.
@vdbdg I agree it is a matter of taste, but your point about him selling millions of records, yeah he is popular, but that doesn't mean he is good. Justin Bieber is popular. Is he good? I'm not saying the guy doesn't know his basics, but he is deluded into thinking he is better than he is. Although I mostly play jazz, I still play blues, and I know how to. He claims to be a blues players just because he plays in a pentatonic scale. He also lacks feeling. And btw my point is slash is overrated.
THe problem here is that people are buying this guitar to sound like slash. FInd your own sound. I have a MANN Les Paul Tobacco-Burst (Gibson Knockoff) And thats my main guitar because i like the sound. DOnt buy a guitar that was made to sound like someone else, find one that suits you best.
I absolutely agree. I got this one when I decided to start playing seriously every day. I didn't research much and just went for something that inspired me and suited my hand as far as I could tell. A year down the line I feel silly having a Slash logo (love Slash though) but I did use it to record some of my own stuff and it sounded great. It's not my fav but until you've tried many and found your own style it's hard to figure out what works for you. So I understand the commercial appeal
agreed, after playing it for a year now I can say it's been really reliable, well set from the factory and the bridge pickup sounds great . Turning volume and tone on it really lets you dial great tone. I don't think it looks very nice and the neck pickup doesn't really do it for me but it's a good working guitar.
It's a 59 replica made by Peter "Max" Baranet which Slash got from Max around the time of recording the album. It was 1 of his 2 main stage guitars for their first tour and is often mistaken with the other, a '58 replica made by the late Kris Derrig used on most of Slash's recordings to this day including AFD, which has zebra pickups and reflector knobs. Both guitars appear in the Ritz concert, both have Seymous Duncan Alnico II Pro pickups, both are amazing, but it's the Derrig on the records
i mostly like the one with zebra pick ups. in gh3 they say that it was the 59 he recorded AFD with. here in sweden you can buy a les paul standard faded 59 honeyburst with zebra pickups. is that almost like the one slash have with zebra pick ups
There is such a debate about these guitars but the easy answer is on Slash's Twitter account ('slashhudson') where he posts pictures of what remains his main recording guitar for the upcoming solo album, it's the Derrig.
I'm onto a deal right now for a 59 Reissue from 2000 with a mad top very similar to Slash's which I always thought looks killer. The current standards are pretty different from the Reissues, but my Slash standard plays really good and is well set-up from the factory.
Well every standard is different and this one has some Slash features that I liked, neck and pickups mostly. Since Slash is my favourite guitarist and I like this tobacco burst it was an easy pick. But I'd love to spend hours trying different standards on different amps with various pickups you know. In the end, I don't play very well so I just needed a good instrument that inspires me to improve my skills.
it's not the width that bothered me, I like that, it's the curve which is U rather than C on the signature. It looked good though, one was sold and they brought another one from the warehouse which looked even better, the upper piece had a more distinct red-ish color than the center piece which seemed closer to the original.

Why didn't you just get the standard or a real custom? Even though its a signiture its plays just like a standard.

after reading ur description, the nexk is so wide because its modelled after a 59' Les Paul, slash's guitar of choice, which featured "jumbo frets"
