  • Love this band!!! This song is the best!

  • My Beatles.......Thats what "The Set" mean to me........people laugh, but go listen to them, 95% of the stuff they did was brilliant...oh........ and they did an album called Dante's Casino!!!

  • they piss on the divine comedy. and they came 15 years before.

  • Dear 'schmiebl' Thanks for reply, yes the band did storm off, my wife was with me at the time and remembers it well! We met up backstage afterwards and I've still got the photos, what a good-looking bunch we all were back then! I saw MS complete a set a couple of times before in Manchester, so no hard feelings.

  • Quality band.

  • wow, am amazed anybody else remembers this band. Saw them several times in early 80s, still listen to albums. "bid'' was a stroppy f****r though - when I saw them at one gig, he stormed off cos someone threw a (plastic) beer glass towards him. Bloody show only lasted 15 minutes!

  • kasbah - i agree - my fave band for years! why are they not hugely famous? the Divine Comedy of the eighties!

  • Good analogy!

  • I saw them a the Venue ,Victoria circa 1981. The most underrated band ever. The world demands a reunion now.

    Tomorrow will be too long.......

  • Great vocals, I especially like the way they are cut off/drowned out before the drum fill leading to the first chorus HOI

  • This pre-dates Golden Brown.

  • Very "Stranglers - Golden Brown"

  • You mean "Golden Brown" is very "B-I-D."

  • Oh wow. I stand (or sit) totally corrected!

  • @cloonmore Golden Brown is nothing like B-I-D and B-I-D is nothing like Golden Brown. They both have harpsichords. That does not mean there is any similarity between the songs. Both great songs.

  • weezer seems to be the modern equivalent

  • ? what?

  • Brilliant ! saw them dozens of times in the early eighties ...... Nothing today that i hear comes anywhere close to the genius that was the set ......

  • Portuguese see this? Sempre me pareceu que estes tipos (fabulous guys!) devem ter influenciado os nossos (magníficos) Mler Ife Dada. Alguém concorda?

  • just beautiful music

  • legendary....ty :)

  • i just love the Monos...where are all the songs...arnt they just great. xx

  • Had I not been born in 1994, I would've liked to have been married to Ganesh (Bid.) What a handsome, mysterious, intelligent, dark, charming, witty gentleman.

  • Delightful group with this ballade-billy kind . Quite unique

allways will stay in history of pop music: wish they were here !

Geniality is rare these days !

  • B.I.D spells "Bedwarmer In Dreams"...*sigh*

  • morricone in a pop format, fantastic stuff.

  • totally impossible to classify this music!!

  • absolutely fab! One of the best most creative bands in existence.

  • This is my all time favorite song.

Even when they change key towards the end, like some Eurovision band out of ideas, it just works.

  • Strange Boutique was i believe their finest moment, an album that still sounds fresh and different today .... Saw the 'Chomes' many times back in the early 80s post 'Ants' .. hard to believe, but the gigs were always quite violent affairs ! when they finished their set with the track 'Strange boutique' the fans went mental !

  • And I like to Ski.........

    Thks

    J40

  • To bad Scarlets Well sucks. This was good. Most of the Monochrome Set was really good, especially The Symphony of Horror....Eine Symphinie des Grauens.

  • This is the Monochrome Set at their absolute finest, at the time of the Peel session that included this, 405 Lines, Apocalypso and the unforgettable Love Zombies. There will never be anything like them again. The question is where are the other tracks they performed on this show (Old Grey Whistle Test)? If ou have them please post them and also, please post all of the MO footage you have; this is exceptional stuff!

  • Love Zombies was indeed their finest moment, but this is sadly lip-synched. Somewhere there's the original OGWT tapes. Would love to see live footage of Bid, Lester & the lads doing Apocalypso or Adeste Fideles.

  • Where's the man with black mostach

  • RULING CLASS!

  • Yup, that's Andy. God bless Lester Square aka Alan Leicester aka Tom Hardy

  • Awesome!

  • Looks like Andy Warren on bass, not Charlie Harper.

  • in love, cancer?

  • One of the most underrated bands ever!

  • One of the greatest bands of the eighties. Deserved a much higher profile than they achieved, brilliant stuff.

  • Great band, always wry lyrics.
