I'm curious as to why christians cling onto the shepherd/sheep analogy. In any other context, being called a sheep is always taken as an insult (an unthinking follower).
Then there's the matter of the shepherd. A shepherd doesn't care for and protect his flock for altruistic reasons at all. For the shepherd, the flock exists solely for profit.
I've called the shepherd/sheep thing the longest running joke in history. But seriously, is there another reason why christians keep using it?
I feel I know you as a kid with that sheep story. I worked for a period of time on Catholic grounds helping autistic children or children with autism.
I still remember the 4 young men who came to help out as volunteers who were going into the priesthood. They were good men.
The song your are talking about it is by Sufjan Stevens off his album Come on and Feel the Illinoise. The whole album is great, I highly recommend it.
Love your vblog and as a resident of the fine state of GA, I will try to visit that wonderful church sometime. It looks beautiful. Blessings to you and your ministry.
I don't suppose you'd be willing to talk about Sophia as well as other feminine images for God in OT/NT as well. The masculine only God leaves half the population going what is wrong with me that God can't identify with me like he can my dad/brother.
I think the point of these videos is to explain what Christianity is (as viewed by this denomination), and exploring other religions(even other forms of Christianity) would kinda defeat the purpose. ~wink~
My point is that he belongs to same denomination that he was born into. There are hundreds (if we stick to Christianity). Did he explore other denominations or just assume he was lucky enough to be born into the correct one? How significant is denomination? Does his faith encourage questioning?
He need not explain other faiths - just explain how he came to where he is. Father Matthew just sparked these questions in me. If I'm trying to understand his faith I figure questions are a good thing.
Oh, see I mis-understood what you meant. I don't think most Christians would say there is a 'correct' denomination , while adding that some are wrong, but I'm not a Christian so take my answer for the grain of salt it is
From my experience some denominations are much more open than others. I'm not a Christian either but I find Father Matthew a cool guy with a good heart and I'm curious about how he got to where he is. Cheers :)

The U.S. South can be really hard on gay folks and people of color. Are you ambivalent about those aspects of Southern ecclesial life?

What a beautiful church. I wonder what the song that ran for the majority of the video, particularly in the middle was; it's excellent.
