I "sometimes" wonder Ron about the little things in favorite classics..and this is certainly one among my favorites.
Little moments of brilliance like how the sax ramps in early kinda adding energy to the potentially lack luster unison vocal parts
The interplay between the bass and snare at points, mirror imaging each other in pulses. Those little timing offsets. Were they "on the fly"? Part of your arrangement?
This is a most unusual song in that it starts on two minor chords!! and then goes into major, on most pop songs it's the other way round. The piano player on the original demo' (Alan Churchill) said 'it will never work Ron', I just smiled and said, 'we'll see', and it did work. Oliver Reed also recorded this song, I will see if my good friend Gary (who posted this song), will kindly post the Oliver Reed and perhaps my original version with My Brother Mick (ex DC5) playing guitar on it.
This takes me back to some sweet and innocent times ... yep, those times COULD and DID happen in the Sixties! Mcroann, would you please please post "I Need You, I Love You"? Thanks for all of your DC 5 postings. I love every one of them.
It's a long story, but briefly, my Brother Mick was the lead guitarist in the DC5 (before Len) so I got to know Dave. At that time they were recording 'covers', I said that if they were going to make it they had to get some original songs, and that's how I came to write the songs. At first there was Dave's and my name on my song's, the deal was that I got a good percentage of my songs, and the same percentage of the record Royalties.Look up my name on the web, go to my site and read my Bio.
Well he never wrote one note of music, or one word of lyric on the songs that I wrote which include 'Sometimes', 'Can I trust you', 'All of the time' 'Mulberry Bush', 'Do Dah', 'No time to Lose', ' That's what I said','Because', 'Bit's and Pieces', 'Anyway you want it (which was the last song I wrote for the Band). By the way, my Wife Vicky likes 'Sometimes' the best of all the songs I wrote for the Band, including 'Because'.
I guess one of the telling things about DC was how Peter Noone helped raise the money for Mike's custom chair. I thought DC was very rich and yet it doesn't seem he helped Mike out. Maybe I'm wrong and he did, but I've never heard that he did.
When I used to visit Mike in hospital there are some things we did not talk about, and Dave Clark was one of those things. Dave did go and see Mike quite often and take him in things like Chocolate (as I did, Mike loved chocolate). The two people he spoke warmly about was Peter Noone, who helped Mike get his electric chair, Mike loved that chair and he would race round the wards in it with me running behind him while he laughed his head off! Also Rob Bolton, who did also did so much for him.
Rob is a nice guy. I helped him out years ago to round off his DC5 collection. Do you have any idea why DC doesn't release his catalog? I can't help thinking it might be guilt.
thanks for coming on here Ron and answering questions! also people should look up oliver reeds version,of sometimes I thibk it came out before dc5's version....you can find oliver reeds version on my mightyquinn333 video list, along with many songs Ron has written and recorded
And thank you mate!! for those who do not know Mightyquinn333 is my very good friend Gary, He is an Artist, and has put together all my video's on 'the tube', if you type in my name you can see them. He creates stunning videos, and makes my humble songs come alive, and once more in public I would like to thank him for all his fine work, past, present, and ongoing, thanks mate. PS, Oliver Reeds version did as you say come out before the DC5 one.
@ronvonryan All great songs bro. But now your *your* fans are going around leaving comments that Dave Clark never wrote one word of music or lyric on ANY DaVE Clark Five song, and painting Clark as greedy and as a liar for having his name as author on the songs you wrote... and they do not bother to mention that you had agreed to let Clark receive credit for writing these songs for which you were financially compensated. Stop painting Dave Clark as a villain and mind ur own f__kin business.
@DeconPossessed Did I ever say that Dave Clark never wrote any songs? Is he greedy and a liar? well if you look on the net and read interviews he gives he not only says he wrote 'Because', he now says it's the best song he ever wrote, and he did not write one single word or note of it!! Yes I agreed for him to put his name on my songs, but he promised me 50% of the songs royalties, also 50% of the record royalties then when back on his word. Mind my own business! it is MY BUSINESS,not YOURS !!
Could you post the lyrics? thanks dude, greets from Perú...

Rob Bolton is a 'Prince among men', and someone I am honoured to call friend. As for what Dave does or does not do, only he knows.
