At least the Chinese are attempting renewable energy! WTF are you doing America? The Mississippi has the biggest drainage basin in the world! You could build 100 dams and make so much energy!
Also, if someone doesn't like this comment and tries to go against the UK; our rivers are tiny, and weather is shit. Our best hope is a wind-turbine which don't produce much.
isnt it sad how a government can just kick out and destroy an entire town to make a fucking dam, that will flood hundreds of villages and destroy entire landscapes. I hate the fucking Chinese
@penfolduk78 Don't let harsh words turn you around to what the truth behind the dam is. Hydro electric power is no longer considered as a renewable energy source due to its impact on biodiversity and negative impact on human health. Please do some scientific research before you come to the conclusion that this is propaganda. If it helps, I'm also a Chinese that looks down on western media.
China just built a dam....then we westerns begin to criticize it.. all the BBC , CNN , ABC things begin to say bad to CHINA.
Now , look what the so called the most democratic , free, wealthy, wonderful country USA has done to Iraq? Yep, maybe we just think it is just a war...
Criticize them? This dam is being questioned by their own people bring gagged by their government! Those stating this is only to criticize China, check out what dams do on the whole to culture and the environment .China is also a country in drought and desertification. Hydropower will not solve this problem.
@waterforpeople China also has the largest reforestation project in the world. The Dams has probably prevented a 100 million tonnes of Green house gas per year. It also very likely help reduced lose of life and property damage during flood season.
I understand there were some cultural and ethical concerns about the dam, but this report is just down-right biased.
@powereater I am sure you live up to your name. And, "probably? Yeah, sure. There is also a report that this dam may well cause a major earthquake. Mega dams are an environmental disaster displacing millions of people, ruining culture, and flooding lands needed for agriculture. Of course, they are great moneymakers for powereaters.
@waterforpeople Fortunately this dam has not caused any eathquake, but it has replaced the millions of coal powered electric powerplants that would have otherwised been build which would have polluted the shit out of the already questionable air quality there. it has also significant reduced flooding risk to settlements downstream and protected the major urban center of wuhan during 2010.
But hey, im pretty sure those people deserved to be flooded, water for people right? DERP DERP
Whatever China does, China is criticized. Fact is the West wants to destroy China and prevent its economic development. China must concentrate on itself.
I'm sure if this is built in the US on the Mississippi, nobody will mention any shit. All the documentary would do is glorifying such project, saying how great it would be for the people in New Orleans and creating water for dry areas in eastern Kansas and stuff. Biased junk against China... At least make an effort to make it less obvious.
@xDAZZE You're an idiot. "From its origin at Lake Itasca to St. Louis, Missouri, the flow of the Mississippi River is moderated by 43 dams. " Hurr durr
to be fair its not really propaganda, it is a symbol of the greatness of modern chinese civilisation. Most of the problems they have been criticised are short term where as the benefits are inherently long term
@Croquantes _ go ask those people whose houses are cracking open or those living beside raw sewage which is best. It's called objective reporting. The chinese government are cloaking this environmental mess in the propaganda of "let's save the world". This damn is only necessary because of the Chinese preoccupation with consumption in the first place.
@Croquantes I am a student in hong kong researching the 3 gorges dam and the report seems accurate-it's polluting the environment, the fish are dying, and the ramifications of building a dam here would be result in water rising etc. But they didn't try to tell the other side of the story because the dam would be beneficial to china's economy and really china's one of the few countries that's taking initiative in green energy. I dislike the dam but this report reeks of anti-china sentiments.

The media should be focusing more on the negative impacts of hydroelectric power itself rather than targeting China as the devil ;)
