...or you dont understand them. 6 string + basses are fairly common. They differ from guitars in many ways.

1 - Different scale, guitars are 26, bass is 34-5

2 - Differently Tuned - 6 string bass = BEADGC, Guitar = EADGBE

3 - many more I cant think of!
