@dogalotoffrog im infantry in training, rifleman, training for ECN343. at the moment im a reservist because of the HUGE waiting list and freezes they have on full time infantry, By the time most full timers go into kapooka id Be fully qualified and deployed. and through the experience i gain in teh reserves i plan on transfering full time. by 2012 i should be a fully qualified full time rifleman with deployment experience. anyone else thinking to join the army full time infantry shud do the same

Badly need 7.62mm rounds - even equip one man per section with a .308 rifle, seems like an AWFUL lot of rounds are getting put downrange for fuck all good, bring back the MAG58 as well. Better range, serious stopping power.

Also, Lt. Gen. Monash pioneered the use of the Machine gun for bombardment and used it to good effect (indirect/plunging fire). Why the Royal Australian Army has lost this is beyond me.

I'm aware of that, but that tick, tick, tick, sound ain't a MAG-58 (or even an M-60), it is a Minimi, I have carried both the MAG and the M-60 (ARES). I have noted with some concern the change over to the section MG being the Minimi, while the MAG (far better piece of kit than the M60, even if it is heavier) has been relegated to being a "support" weapon.

I don't think 5.56 rounds are going to stop a determined attack, whereas 7.62mm rounds have been proved to do so.

They open fire presuming them to be the enemy and discovered after that they were a New Zealand patrol attacked to their own unit, killing several Kiwis. Our boys have done friendly fire too. The Kiwis were well within their rights to be angry with us.

Dragon Scale body armor can take a grenade laid on it or multiple rounds from multiple diffrent types of munitions.
