Best to learn before you have problems... IF you are fixing most computers you will generally need a second computer to DOoo STUFFdownload drivers and the endless array of other tasks you are likley to need to have done . Soooo get a second PC and explore. Learn by doing and google is your friend at lest at this time but who knows with SOPA on the horizon.
technician are a rip off most of the time they know its a simple fix and there like
"oh no looks like you got other stuff wrong with it to we will have to do a full pc rebuild and format and test all components and you might need a new motherboard"
It's hysterical honestly how chris, the one who is known for going on and on and on about Apple care and the prem price of the 'overpriced' mac hardware is worth it for the service by the apple stores/repairs, but even thinking about fixing a hardware (and some software issues) your self or out of apples control equals no more warranty. Meaning he is suggesting that you save money after getting wallet rapped by apple inc.
What happened to Eee you later?

My parents had a Kaypro 386 computer with a "Turbo" button. I probably disassembled nd reassembled that thing 20 times as a kid.

Computer Repair is a complete waste of money. Build your own PC. Anything they do, you can do as well.

I help on a sliding scale. From low cost cash price to proof of charity donation, canned goods for homeless (5 cans needed).

It's wise to unplug your computer from AC or UPS before tinkering commences.

Just like an Automobile, do it your self? That is, if you know what you are doing, that applies to both.
