I may get flak for this. I believe in god and I loved this video. I especially like the "Let's make religion a hobby," because my beliefs should have nothing to do with how I treat everyone else. I can't explain my view of god in a comment... but I will try so people at least see a bit of where I'm coming from. I believe while recognizing that there is no reasoning behind it and therefore no grounds to do things strictly on that belief. Plus religion isn't god, so i don't believe in religion.

Religious people not neccessarily fanatics. You simply cannot blame religion for one terrorist attack as you cannot blame a shot gun for killing. It is the person who uses it. How many people died in for instance world war 1-2 (and many other wars) which didn't happen for religious purpose.

i feel i should just point out that although the communist party was originally atheistic and Marx hated religion, in the later period of the communistic rule the government brought back religion when they realized how great it was to control people (and that religious people don't care as much about the fact that their lives suck, because they reckon they'll get their reward after they've died...)

The totalitarian principle that you see in communism really does seem to have it's origins in monotheism. Hitchens also often says you show me an atheistic society that takes it's teachings from Thomas Payne, Thomas Jefferson, Albert Einstein, etc. on the otherhand and the end result is famine and genocide then maybe the believers would have a case.

Well,what seperates religions is usually the stuff in the details. For example, you could claim that you believed in God, BUT you could claim that He's not active in the world today, like a Deist. Christianity claims that God IS still active in the world today.
