I'm having the problem of a production company utilizing a NOT FOR PROFITS activities to gain. Also the fact that as a whole the SCA is in NO MEANS fully given its just do, there are ten fold the fighting aspect that occur with in the organization AND aspects of the combat (and variations of martial combat) represented in this video, nor is it given proper acknowledgment or credit certainly where none would be given as it would place in jeopardy their status and operation as a not for profit.

For those who desire greater historical accuracy in fighting techniques - have you ever tried to herd cats?? To accomplish what you ask, would require extensive and intensive training - and fight choreography. One cannot get that level of commitment from most of the people who join. You MIGHT be able to get a few "fighter" households to do that, but good luck getting the SCA as a whole to do it. Besides, what do you do when you've got Europeans vs shoguns or Byzantines vs Native Americans?

@mouthforwar17 there is a rather LARGE aspect of the Society whom are concerned with that, as well as many more people who spend a rather large portion of their time actually researching, interpreting and educating people on the Society's focus (pre-1700) in a wide variety of things ranging from daily living to education, clothing, etc. . . . this is just one aspect of it and had they given proper credit to the society as a whole, this video wouldn't exist in this fashion. . .

how do you get armor and weapons do you have to buy them

Usually you have to buy the helmet and some of the other various pieces of armour. Finding merchants who sell the helmets is usually not that hard. If you get together with a group in your area they would be able to help you find a merchant in your area. Weapons are usually made from ratan depending on the weapon. SCA groups are spread all over the world. Group listings and rules for armour and weapons are listed on the SCA website listed in the write up for this video.

Actually according to the Society for Creative Anachronism website, listed in the write up states the following;

"The SCA is an international organization dedicated to researching and re-creating the arts and skills of pre-17th-century Europe.”

The participant decides what part of pre 17th century Europe they like and then do their best to recreate it. The name says it all.

Make sure your coach sees this video too. Medival times is a lot of fun but the combat outcome is predetermined. The engagements in this video are not. It is who has the best tatcics.

There are 4 categories for Youth combat. Division 1, 6-9. Division 2, 10-13. Division 3, 14-17 and Division 4, 16-18 also known as Youth Armored. Youth combat has its own set of rules and armor qualifications that don't necessarily coincide with adult fighting rules.

That is correct. We took some footage of youth combat along time ago. One of our Executive producers was a mentor and trainer for a youth combatant. The kids had a great time in youth combat. Future knights in the SCA.

@Piroman6 Yes, like how some folks used them back in history, like whale bone and such. Advantages are you can train and hit at full speed and the armour requirements are easy to meet. Benefit is more can play. Drawback is the combat is purely a modern sport. not historical at tall. Still fun.

The demonstration of skill and tatics in the art of war is more to the point of this kind of activity. The folks involved in the fighting portrayed in this video are also involved in bringing the best of that age to life if only for a weekend.

The weapons themselves are usually ratan wrapped with strapping tape and covered with duct tape for the swords. The pikes are usually ratan or fiber glass tubes with a padded thrusting tip. Axes vary in design and type as well as construction material. Specific weapons construction rules are available on the SCA website listed in the write up for this video.

Your area would fall within the Kingdom of Drachenwald which covers Europe, Africa and the Middle East. There does not appear to be a specific group in Bulgaria. The closest group is located in Greece. We cannot post website or e-mails here due to Youtube restrictions. However in the video descritpion the SCA home page is there. On that page you click groups and find Drachenwald, follow that links to find Greece and the contact the senschal from there.

This footage was shot at May War held at Potrero County Park in San Diego County. The cost of entry depends on your memebership status, and may vary from year to year. More details are located on the Califian Barony site. Yes tactics are used.

The local kingdom is Caid. For specific information go to the SCA home page listed in the description for this video. There look up Kingdoms and find Caid. On the Caid page click on the link to find local groups. There is a list of groups throughout the kingdom. Check that list to find the group that is closest to you. You can then click on their link to get information on how to contact them.

First off I love the warning it has. But to the point. I am basically trained. I just need to join and find the closest fight. I also need to find a decent mask.. I wear no armor. My main concern is what is the weapon limit. Meaning is there a certain number of weapons allowed? I couldn't help but think that maybe the SCA is training for something big that might happen and I also thought that all of those people must have an armory of weapons all on their own. MUST BE EPIC TO BE A PART OF!!!!!!

@0Sharkosaurus0 : indeed, it is a lot of fun, but it's pretty violent and a plate armor is not really optional...on the other hand, you don't really feel blows with an armor so people don't retain their strenght when hitting, so that you know you got hit ;)

I never had an armor though and I once got slammed in the the throat so hard I could hardly breath for minutes - and if you fall on the ground during a melee, expect to be walked on and people falling on you.

For the sake of length you repeat too many scenes a shorter video with slightly longer edits would be better SCA combat is not a dance video. Also next time try and get some pan shots of the battle if you have the ability. Other wise great attempt.

We're glad you liked the video. As with most video shoots of this nature there are limitations on where the videographer can be. The scenes that were used in this video were selected from more than 12 hours of video. While editing we try to match the various segments available to the selected music. Sometimes we have to repeat that segment however we do try to avoid that. The video has been used by the local SCA at Comic-Con to recruit new people for three years now.

Actually the birth place of the SCA was Berkley. So yes there are a lot of groups in your area. The SCA website is listed in the video description. Check it out and follow the links to Kingdoms and Groups. The Kingdom in your area is the Kingdom of the West.
