Either my monthly rate goes up every year, or the plan gets worse. I'd pay for someone below me if someone above would pay my medical bills. @masonrox2547 its based on collectivism, rather than individualism. and it leans away from the idea of private ownership, while advocating public or common ownership. i would think that it would be difficult to become rich in a socialist country because the more money u make, the higher your taxes...basically to the point that you have more or less an equal money system, or at least a close to being equal money system. The economy is also likely to be highly regulated.

The way I understand it is recognizing communism as a socialist system based on an extremely high level of authority (like in China or North Korea). While Norway is more libertarian....Don't know if that makes total sense.

@ElasticGiraffe socialism isn't the worst thing in the world, every president we've had has been socialist in some way. bush took money in a trickle down sort of way, and instead of using that money to help people, he send troops off to die for a bogus cause. so it's only socialist if you use it for healthcare? if you use the money for bogus war it's okay?

Can libs talk about any political issue without somehow sliding the Iraq war into the discussion and trying to use it as a trump card? @ElasticGiraffe first part, I understand, yes, Obama's a socialist. I just don't mind controlled socialism in small doses. There's a happy medium
In my other point I was speaking about the people that voted for Bush twice who criticize Obama when he's only been in office for one year and he was in for 8. Anyone who voted for Bush (Not saying you did, needs to stop criticizing Obama's decisions, they do not have the credibility at this point, unless they do something real corrupt and insidious.

I respect that, but I tend to believe that socialism is unconstitutional because the federal government is overstepping its bounds. Uncle Sam has horrific money management skills and is constantly being cheated. Furthermore, small doses of regulation quickly escalate into large doses, as the government finds other ways to gain control over the market. I'll concede that capitalism isn't perfect, but it works well for most people. Socialism hurts those who contribute most to the economy.

I wouldn't want to donate my money if I didn't think it was going to help others, I believe in giving to the poor, but in an intelligent fashion from my own heart. I wouldn't mind paying into a system that would in turn pay my meds. What the government wants to do is do it on a large scale in a quick manner, and yes, I think if the system could be more intelligent, there's always room for improvement but I don't mind giving into it, its just a due to me

Does that mean Obama just gets a free pass to flush our economy down the toilet? I don't think so. They WANT the corporations to fail so that they can be bailed out by the Government and this be under Fed control. but whatever.. This November a lot of incumbents are gonna be packing their bags!

@kakmolnia lazy asses don't deserve it I agree, but I have 3 jobs and I still need better coverage, and I'm willing to pay into it so someone who makes less can get coverage, just like I'd hope someone with more to give could help me out. I'm not lazy, but my medical plan gets worse every year.

How does the rich get rich they rob the poor. The little man gets paid nothing the income we get is peanuts. The companies make junk and we constantly is replacing junk with junk and can't get ahead. I can't keep a washer, dryer or frig because they are junk, but the price is out rages we are over charged and under paid. The rich need to give back crooks. Cheap products and poorly made with a high price tag.

@Mick I work 3 jobs, I am educated, & I see nothing wrong with paying into a system that could in turn help me pay my medical bills. Even with 3 jobs I'm still struggling to pay the bills. Either my monthly rate goes up every year, or the plan gets worse. I'd pay for someone below me if someone above would pay my medical bills. I do see some unfairness in it, but I'm willing to give it a try, if it doesn't work or isn't done right I'm willing to oppose it. Not all socialism is communism.

buy American then.....so you pay a bit more for it but it will last twice as long. I have American made products that have outlived their "lives" and they continue to work just as they did when I first purchased them. As for being paid in "peanuts", perhaps quitting your job at the circus and educating yourself might be a good start.

by the way, although china has a socialist title, it's economy is most definately capitalist. i thinks the NHS (one of the best political achievements of all time) is realistic and has helped many countries. because of this, the poorest person in britain on average, lives longer than the richest american.

Oh, please! I bust my ass everyday to make a living, and I personally feel that I shouldnt have to support lazy jackasses on wellfare. Socialist countries dont work. Utopia is something you fantasize about, it is not in todays reality. Go and ask the Canadians and the French if they like their socialist counrty. Be careful with the references to Friedman. Friedman never advocated the overthrow of foreign nations for the sake of propagating his economic theories. In fact, he made the argument that war is never in the financial interest of a country, the Iraq war for instance.
