I don't know what country you live in but Second Life is free to use. Its buying objects that cost money and even then you can earn money on Second life.
They are very hard to do, the light trails. We've JUST figured out a way to make them low lag, and with 90 degree turns, while being a physical object... But, now we gotta work out the math so those light trails actually crash cycles.
Of course, we're not Oni Kenkon either, we're Digital Dynamix. But if you want lightcycles I urge you to check out Armegetron. If you want lightcycles in SL, we're working on a clone, but we're not there yet.
