It's amazing how many bugs die at the hands of humans. This is only a TINY sample. Commercial pest control, car windsheilds, and cans of Raid take a HUGE toll, although most people don't seem to mind squishing or poisoning zillions of ants, roaches and spiders every year. Interestingly, the REAL long-term bug killer is the bulldozer. Every few minutes, many acres of wild habitat are wiped out, and once the bug's habitat is gone it's game-over for countless species. Cruel humans indeed...
Imagine you are a bug, you are born in an appropriatley sized terrarium, big enough to fly in, you have friends in there with you and you and you dont have to hunt food or ever be in any danger. Its pretty much being treated like royalty, than after a few years of happiness, a hand picks you up and puts you in a cage. You are quite confused, and then you notice it smells funny. And then you get drowsy and fall asleep.
There were sooooo many butterflies it was amazing. On my website, in the photo galleries, events and outings section there are hundreds of photos from past insect fairs - more butterflies than you ever thought possible in one place! :-) I'll send you a link if you're interested :-)
