  • Still love watching this video knowing I saw it live. =D

  • It's quite amusing to see people arguing over jazz vs classic.

I see that as asking whether Issac Newton is greater than Pablo Picasso

  • Those of you talking shit about my uncle Tim can burn in hell and just TRY to play like he does. I know, he practices at my house whenever he comes over and I try going to concerts when I don't mind headaches. The man is LOUD and freaking amazing.

  • i just cant put this song away, so intricate chords, and catchy melody

  • I saw Vizzutti play this live with a nearby college jazz group just recently, and the song really gets no justice unless it's heard live. I'm not very wise to Cates average playing style, but the range they both reach is amazing. :)

  • hahahahaha sorry just kding.....are twins or what!!!!!

  • I think when people are talking about classical players playing jazz, they just have different musical tastes. When

i think about trumpet solos on a night in tunisia, I generally think of players like Cladio Roditi. (If you don't know whom I'm talking about, look him up immediately on youtube). I personally don't care for Allen's solo too much, but I totally admire on every other aspect of his playing.

  • agreed. props for this one.

  • well youre right.....well said....and now .......what about my ears.......are bleding

  • are you saying vizzutti doesnt play jazz?

  • He doesn't sound incredibly horrible next to Vizzuti.... OK so only a little. This must mean he is pretty darn good!!!

  • Wow.. Er... Yeah, they were both great players, but Vizzutti won that one, hands down. I'm not really liking Cates' tone, it sounds a bit too thick, I think. Vizzutti's is more clear, though I'm sure some people would perfer the larger tone of Cates over that.

  • Are you supposed to hit a bunch of notes outside of the chord while you solo? Man.. that guy sounds like shit next to Vizzutti

  • most everyone does...

  • Wow... I didn't know how awesome Allen Vizzutti was at jazz also! Tim was really brave is "dueling" this legend and he did really well, I like his licks! I've only been playing trumpet for like 8 years so I'm not even close to half these guys' skill. Oh yeah just ignore the negative comments, if a video is posted on youtube those WILL come out no matter what.

  • Those of you who don't think Vizzutti can play jazz are morons of the first degree. That man is a MASTER of that instrument if there ever was one. It ain't the greatest arrangement in the world, but I've heard him in person, the man can play whatever you put in front of him, from Bach to Ellington, and can improv most of us into tears.

  • It doesnt matter Jazz or classical..a player is a player to me..i hate when people call me Herbert L. Clarkes Spawn.lol.

  • The negative comments below only show ignorance at its worst! Tim is a great soloist and one heck of a nice guy to boot. And calling Al V. a "classical" player is pure ignorance... study up on the fellow -

  • Tim~ You played fine, you both played fine. Everyone is consumate critic. These people have never met someone as dedicated as you are. I think the first time I ever met you, you had a trumpet in your hand, some 25 years ago.

  • To all who have "commented" below... please be sure to tell us where you'll be performing soon - as hearing better players would be a real treat...

  • haaha, thank you for the encouraging comment!! =D

  • To all you mouths bitching about Vizzutti's playing, make sure you post your vids demonstrating how much better you are and how you've got it going on as jazzers, on stage, live, not take 9 playing along with Band In A Box in mommy's basement. Clifford blah blah whatever, horsecrap. Clifford wished he'd had Vizzutti's chops, sound, range, facility, creativity.

  • I thought this was supposed to be a duel. Puh-leez, fat boy brought a cinnamon bun to a gunfight. He got schooled, period. He needs to spend less time in the buffet line and more time in the woodshed.

  • poor fat boy , at the end he runaway to the back seats, and saying ''he kick my butt.....ohoho i need some food to the nerves'' hahaha

  • ohhh and the big guy was not to bad.....was worst

  • Allen introduce the solo with a clifford brown lick, he need to invent his own licks before take the risk of be atacked by real jazz fans like me, sorry but when you hear traditional jazz at least 10 years you start to really understand a good jazz solo, creative, unique, hear the solo of clifford brown on Joy Spring or Desafinado with gillespie, that was a real jazz not only lick after lick DONT BE MAD WE LOVE JAZZ AND TAKE CARE OF.

  • Why don't you show him how it's done hotshot.

  • hhahahaha i enjoy the buffet comentary....but ok i need to agree...clifford was a better jazz player....but vizzutti is a better horn player.....and there is a lot of young kids that play better jazz than vizzutti....don't you think?....ohhh and the fat boy was worst than anybody. maybe he's eating pizza right now...with extra cheese ...hahahaha

    SERIUSLY....Dont be mad man....enjoy the life...Best

  • I'm sure that it sounded better in person one thing. second, who is touchofclass anyway, to say his jazz is embarrassing is kind of ridiculous, he might not be the best at it but he wasnt a hack. if youre such hot shit why dont you post of video of your own playing

  • and who is the jazz tenor?.....maybe the last of the line....Who cares...go and practice more Band in a box Licks hahahahaha

  • Vizzutti neets to stick to writing different variations on Carnival of Venice. Thats his forte. His jazz is embarrasing.

  • These guys suck big time. Vizzutti is a great trumpet player, but not a good jazz player. Listen to feel, sounds like a 9th grader!

  • Honestly I've never heard a ninth grader play like that. To listen to that and say that Vizzutti sucks is outrageous. Had you said that his jazz isn't as refined or mature as other players, I would most definitely agree. But I just can't agree with your assessment that he sucks at jazz.

  • i would defenitely like to know when your school will be holding YOUR 9th grade concert soon. i will be glad to put it on youtube.

  • lick city...borrrring

  • that fat guy got his ass kicked really hard it wasnt a contest

  • i agree with you oreojazz

  • the fat guy was alright

  • u wanna see him at his best check out Trumpeters Al Vizzutti and Vince DiMartino

  • :( sucks

  • vizzuti friggin demolished him

  • I must agree with you...Big time.

  • I just played a concert with Vizzutti yesterday!

  • When Allen hugs him, he's thinking "You just got owned"

  • what kind of trumpet does he use?

  • well he killed the fat guy

  • Haha I love how Vizzutti kind of starts bobbing his head when Cates starts playing to try to get the audience to go along with it. I saw him do this same thing in concert this week, and it is even more impressive when you hear Vizzutti play live.

  • come on guys that guy did play pretty well. I doubt he (vizzutti)was bobbing his head to get the croud into it. I am not saying the guy is as good as vizzutti but he wasn't owned. it didn't sound like he sucked by a long shot....

  • woah my god i so agree with andiroo!!

  • Man that lick at 2:14 is AWESOME! Tim Cates must have had a hard time that evening trying to match upto Allen! Awesome vid!

  • Good stuff

Vizzutti owned up on this one
