im 17 i was raised on folk, the music envelopes me even to this day. At my school, i spread the old songs and new to the people who want to listen to the true history of the United States. the history the communists anarchists socialists dissidents and activists fought to make, and many times died to make. thats why i love folk. because it taught me to be an american and more about being american than any teacher.
i am 61 and my uncle harold leventhal was the manager of pete seeger/ woody guthrie and weavers and many in the folk era when it was unpopular to do so----so long live the folk era and independent thought---
@blackout15243 well, music is an expression, and whether we agree with what someone is expressing, there's always someone who will. i personally don't mind dubstep and other types of electronic music. rap is the problem though :D
i just found this guy yesterday. im only 14 so a lot of my friends think this kind of activist music is stupid, but it dont think it is. and this guy even sounds good occapella
@blackout15243 Not really cz i like Motorhead Hawkwind Throbbing Grist;e The Beatles Peter Tosh Mozart Simon and Garfunkle Jimi Hendrix loads more different genres of music and Pete Seeger and all my friends like all different genres too so an eclectic musical taste is not strange it is actually the norm but keep on liking widen your tastes and you will find music so much more fulfilling.
@blackout15243 No mate there are enough idiots on here without adding to them, I just think it's great that someone your age is into different stuff other than rap and dubstep. I Don't know if you have heard of Harvey Andrews, He's a folk singer from the 70s who is pretty good. I saw him once in Germany and really enjoyed myself.
@atthecross12three Just stick to what you like and what you think and what your hart feels man dont you look up to others in my place where i live is the same my frends listen modern music but i listen to older one and they dont like it but i dont cere and its not just about music its about everything !
@atthecross12three If only more young men/women thought like you. Keep going and remember...Dissent is Democracy....Without it Democracy is just A Dictatorship in a fancy Dress.
Hey ! Im 17 and ive been into this stuff forever. I recommend Woody Guthrie and even some modern artists like Ryan Harvey for activist music. Its so good

My middle school history teacher sang this at a talent show at my school. I did not understand at all what the song was about at the time.

to @blackout15243-
could you clarify your remark about rap being the problem. Could you be more specific? Not to take away from Pete's genius, just curious.
