  • I've always wanted to play this song in the woods and scare the hell out of boyscouts

  • Ummagumma is Pink Floyd's biggest masterpiece, most daring experiment and definitely their most underrated album.

  • May I recommend the book 'A Pop Revolution, the transatlantic music scene 1965 to 1969' by the invisible man. The author is a big fan of this track.

  • 4:32 That was pretty slow avant garde wasn't it?

  • im so high

  • Tiene un toque sumamente sicodelico y alusinogeno éste disco en especial, tanto el disco en directo como el de estudio.

  • Where can I find the lyrics?

  • genius......full volume everyone !!!

  • needs mushrooms

  • love this song! I bought Ummagumma mainly because of this! lol

  • My intro to UmmaGumma. Picture this. It's 1970 or so, you and your friends are tripping pretty hard in the woods at your favorite 'party in the woods' area in the late afternoon. You stumble across a couple heads sitting around a small fire, passing a doobie around. They invite you to have a sit down and join them. After partaking of the weed, one of them, unseen, pops a tape in the portable 8-track and then 'THIS' track fades in from unseen speakers from the woods around you! I freaked out!

  • some trippy ass shit here... pass the shrooms...

  • "And the wind cried Mary"

  • @bizerkdajerk But what is a "pict" ???

My left nut for some old school window pane!!!

  • @CSXer a pict was a group of people of the Mediaeval days

  • If you have the means and equipment, listen to this at a slower speed. Hear what's really going on in the backround.

  • this is VERY INTENSE while tripping....and it just keeps getting sooo loud!

  • You can find the Picts speech on the internet, with translation to english as it is in Olde English (Moor I beleive)

  • listen to this when your really baked its so fucking creepy or when your triping

  • ............im left speachless after hearing this song

  • Hacka Kakawmba.

  • best song ever

  • soooooooooooooooooooo godlike. bless you Roger.

  • I have 2 of the original albums somewhere- < the power of weed, indeed .

  • I haven't listen to this song in 25 years or more. GOD, I LOVE IT!!! Nothing ever made me laugh more than this trip thru Syd Barrett's insanity. The world misses you, Syd!

  • The song name says it all. Several species of small furry animals gathered together in a cave and grooving with a pict. Grooving hard....

  • this is by no means good while tripping. Please. dont....

  • @ImpalerXll whaadyamean? Maybe for you, but I thing it would be awesome for me!

  • @ImpalerXll

Hehehe. Back around 25 years ago. My friends and I would do lsd or shrooms and listen to this song and embryo. At peak time, it was pure chaos and would usually consume me. I can't say what happened to my friends as I was writhing in mental anguish. Memories.

    All the best.

  • Check my profile for the Pink Floyd Inspired Concept album I wrote!

  • this is awesome loved it for yrs

  • Anyone who calls Radiohead the most experimental rock band of all time has never heard this.

  • many a GOOD acid trip to this tune (as well as other floyds).... remember, the type of trip is relative to the state of mind even if it may be a little 'altered' at the time

  • "Small furry Animals?" I distinctly hear Birds - they found furry Birds someplace?

  • Sounds like a bad LSD trip.

  • Scientifically speaking, the drugs enhance the music in ways that one who has not experience cannot comprehend. You can choose you kill yourself with legal drugs and even worse sodas and all the other food that rots the world and its inhabitance inside out and contribute to the process of global modularization, while you fill sites like youtube with your anti-drug cliche propaganda.

  • this is great, but scary

  • 7/8 :)

  • I seem to recall reading or hearing that they recorded bird wing flaps as the beating sound in this.

  • What is the point of this song?

  • @crazybrittany5411 loldrugs

  • @crazybrittany5411 If you have to ask, then you will never know ; )

  • Who needs drugs? Pink Floyd gives you the same expirience...

  • omg all the twinky kids cant stop commenting on how much drugs they do nd how they listened to the dumbest song ever just because it's pink floyd

  • mom please, i get high of life...and weed

  • weed? try LSD. or Mescaline. or some good ol shrooms. maybe even some morning glory or something added in there. but your all right, you dont need drugs. you really dont. appreciate the music without them.

  • you don't need to take drugs of any kind to appreciate this kind of music, or any other for that matter, i think its a bit of a myth. ive listen to music while peaking on strong acid, smoking cannabis of various strengths, drunk, and also while straight, to be honest i think if you can relax your mind and immerse yourself in music without any drugs you get a lot more out of it. headphones in a dark room is good!

  • That guy speaks better scottish than me and i'm fae Glesga.

  • i think i just shit my pants

  • 17 people just had a bad trip on acid

  • Did anyone else almost shit their pants?

  • Does anyone else picture squirrels having a breakdance contest about halfway through?

  • Meeeeeeee, ta-ta-tumbak.

  • My favorite part is where it goes "squeek".

  • "That was pretty avant-garde, wasn't it?"

  • Hahaha...... classic!!!

And what's the last thing he says before "thank you"?

    And the wind cries mary?

  • @kirkfanbigtime

    and the wind cried back

  • Listen to Pink Floyd on psychedelics - That is all.

  • Hey asshole! Ur supposed to HIGH fuuuuuuuck.

  • This isn't music, this is shit that people only think they like because Pink Floyd made it.

  • @sandalfury Thank you for your omniscient clarification of our thought processes. We stand corrected.

  • @sandalfury Thank you for your omniscient clarification of our thought processes. We stand corrected.

  • @sandalfury No, that would be Piper At the Gates Of Down. Mua hahaha... let the flames commence. Most overrated album in the Floyd catalogue. Syd Barrett was a directionless mindfreak... some good tunes, but had he not left, Floyd would have been lost in the world of cliche acid freakout tunes forever.... Thank god for mental illness.

  • @sandalfury You have to remember that this is the 60's, experimental music was in full force. It's ok to be different. Not every song that a band creates is going to be great to your ears. And if it isn't music, then why are you listening to it?

  • Love this...I had tower speakers all over the house and we would play this at mega parties to see who would freak on acid...This is so wild

  • I'm freeeee! Come back!

  • rap is spelled crap, the c is silent its pronounced rap, disco sucks, new country blows, disco sucks, and what the fuck is hip-hop ? i almost have it figured out.....then you got that justin beiber thing ? im only 42 and ill admit im lost............lol no im not, im just where i want to be

  • I keep waiting for a Hip-Hop artist with a brain to sample this!

  • Sounds like someone I know.......

  • This I trippy lol holy shit

O the awesome power of weed

  • W T F

  • What the fucking hell is this?

  • i like animals and weed and music so... thums up

  • Aye! A roar he cried frae the bottom of his heart that I would nay fall

but as dead, dead as 'a can be by his feet; de ya ken?

    ...and the wind cried Mary.

and finally in an English accent......... Thank You

  • Aye! A roar he cried frae the bottom of his heart that I would nay fall

but as dead, dead as 'a can be by his feet; de ya ken?

    ...and the wind cried Mary.

and finally in an English accent......... Thank You

  • The fear a fallen down taken never back the raize and then Craig Marion,

get out wi' ye Claymore out mi pocket a' ran doon, doon the middin stain

picking the fiery horde that was fallen around ma feet.

Never he cried, never shall it ye get me alive

ye rotten hound of the burnie crew. Well I snatched fer the blade O my

Claymore cut and thrust and I fell doon before him round his feet.

  • @robertcathcart how do you know this this? do you know the rest? could you e-mail it to me at gem6621@yahoo.com ? please? thanks

  • ye an' a bit of Mackeral settler rack and ruin

ran it doon by the haim, 'ma place

well I slapped me and I slapped it doon in the side

    and I cried, cried, cried

  • @robertcathcart ....the rest please... for a cro-magnon diggin' up his roots...

  • Listen to this and "On the Run" at the same time with this slightly than "On The Run". Whoa...... This reminds me of "Revolution 9" by The Beatles, only less apocalyptic.

  • My older brother used to play this when i was a kid and freak me out.

  • On my old Dokorder open reel deck I could slow the playback to 3 3/4 IPS, half speed. I'd listen to the way Rogers recorded the little critters' voices and sounds. Brilliant!

  • dude if i was walking through the woods then all of a sudden i heard this i would pee myself

  • what the frig this is the weirdest song ever hahaha i love it!!!!!!!!!

  • @Vleertouwer That is because you have understanding that the name Pink Floyd is a band when mentioned should be handled with care..Some of their songs aren't even songs, Cult of unpersonality, Flying pigs ,walls just keep as long as were away from the spotlight..

  • I found this song whilst writing an essay on the Picts, thanks to wikipedia for the excellent background music recommendation!

  • one of my best acid trips ever!!!!

  • scares me...

  • It's a damn good tune...just LOVE IT!

  • but that doesn't mean I say anyone should trip out... I mean that too.. especially when young.. DO NOT... as adults will understand I am not saying so, they are adults so th get the point I am just making about the genius, which, obviously I had to be honest and say yeah.. I did trip when younger, but I was an adult then.. kids should never ever take anything at all, not even joint, nothing, you are developing. ;o) look after yourselves... more than anything. ;o)

  • its an amazing insight to floyd and how they have made something that can remind them of tripping when not... ie, flashback genus... comeback aciiiid... comeback aciiiiiid... and it works lol.. when straight, (20 tears later 4 me) - if you trip out and listen to it with your eyes closed, you are gonna come up alot and it will freak you out how powerful it is.... that's the beauty of this, if you have ever tripped out...tripping aint sommat you forget, it changes you, nothing is the same after.

  • @islandmarketer .. and yet they made this probably tripping out... lol.... seriously if you get what I am saying, I think it is genius....

  • @Vleertouwer Same and im 14.

  • Best song about Picts ever!

  • meddle is the best album imo!but a lot of pink floyd was pish-bike for example!fuckin keek!

  • I love this, but I wouldn't class it as a song, I mean it's not really...It's more just trippy random stuff, but none the less, it's amazing haha.

  • @TheAmazingScotsman What is a "song"?

  • @RubiconXing A song is a relatively short musical composition for the human voice (possibly accompanied by other musical instruments), which features words.

This wouldn't class as a song, this is animal noises and a guy shouting stuff at the end.

  • @TheAmazingScotsman So Echoes isn't a song? Instrumental music for two minutes isn't a song? What's the difference between "sounds" and "noise" and "song" and "music"? Is music really confined to a track on a CD?

  • O_o if you were in the dark and some one played this to you wie your high... you will freak out!!!!!!!!

  • 4:50: the title of the great Jimi Hendrix song... "And The Wind Cried Mary"

  • @Vleertouwer i heard this track when i was about 6 and it freaked me out in a good way

  • god help us all, that must b roger w's big sister trolling down the stairs killing everything that crosses her way

  • Havent heard this in years! Thanks for posting.

  • @grantswede You really like the exclamation mark don't you?

  • I love all music and heard it all even some of the most weird and crud shit including 18 different atrists talking about dicks. And I can say with out a shadow of dout that this song is the most fucked up ive ever herd... and i cant get enoughf!!

  • instant though springs to mind, my mates house, sum magic mushrooms, this album and a trippy trip bk home on the bus :D class

  • Roger Waters.. genius.

  • Comment removed

  • its 1983 and yet it sounds like some 90's ambient stuff. or is it just my imagination?

  • lol me and my freind were trippin balls on acid and this song came on, and we decided we must have to do even more to really take the song seriously.

  • too much

I had a flash while listening this song.

    I felt in a dream.

I was dreaming about ... huh.

  • @xXxstraightslickXxX

done that ... with the lights out ! it's fucken awesome...!!

  • @xXxstraightslickXxX - I listened to this because a friend told me I should, but I don't do drugs. I guess that's why I've never understood the appeal of Floyd.

  • @TuberOnTheLoose you should listen to more pink floyd then

  • Brilliant post! I'd subscribe, but You Tube sent me this message: 'You have too many subscriptions compared to your number of subscribers.' (Quote.) I keep up with my subscriptions! When I contacted them, I was told to 'drop some of your subscriptions, and then you can add new ones'. WTF? Anyway, thank you for posting this. It would have been posted to my favourites, otherwise. (They also think I have too many favourites.) Anal-retentive Nazi huns..

  • Wow, haven't heard the older pf in a while, besides Piper at the Gates of Dawn, listened to that album bout 2 days ago, good to hear some of their older stuff again :)

i guess being 17 years old in 2010 in southern america (north carolina) wont give me many friends who have good taste

  • @freddiebarry93 as i read all the comments here, people tell stories about how they tripped with their friends and played stuff like this and other floyd albums. why cant i do that dammit? haha

  • @freddiebarry93 I feel for yuh young man. But you TOO can groove with a Pict, who needs rap fans.

  • A friend had a 10x15 bomb shelter buried in his back yard which was converted into a "listening room" complete with Black walls, black lights, black light posters, color boxes, and a massive amp and speakers. This LP was the true "TEST" of your mettle.

  • @facelesshorseman WISH I WAS THERE!
