My intro to UmmaGumma. Picture this. It's 1970 or so, you and your friends are tripping pretty hard in the woods at your favorite 'party in the woods' area in the late afternoon. You stumble across a couple heads sitting around a small fire, passing a doobie around. They invite you to have a sit down and join them. After partaking of the weed, one of them, unseen, pops a tape in the portable 8-track and then 'THIS' track fades in from unseen speakers from the woods around you! I freaked out!
I haven't listen to this song in 25 years or more. GOD, I LOVE IT!!! Nothing ever made me laugh more than this trip thru Syd Barrett's insanity. The world misses you, Syd!
Hehehe. Back around 25 years ago. My friends and I would do lsd or shrooms and listen to this song and embryo. At peak time, it was pure chaos and would usually consume me. I can't say what happened to my friends as I was writhing in mental anguish. Memories.
many a GOOD acid trip to this tune (as well as other floyds).... remember, the type of trip is relative to the state of mind even if it may be a little 'altered' at the time
Scientifically speaking, the drugs enhance the music in ways that one who has not experience cannot comprehend. You can choose you kill yourself with legal drugs and even worse sodas and all the other food that rots the world and its inhabitance inside out and contribute to the process of global modularization, while you fill sites like youtube with your anti-drug cliche propaganda.
weed? try LSD. or Mescaline. or some good ol shrooms. maybe even some morning glory or something added in there. but your all right, you dont need drugs. you really dont. appreciate the music without them.
you don't need to take drugs of any kind to appreciate this kind of music, or any other for that matter, i think its a bit of a myth. ive listen to music while peaking on strong acid, smoking cannabis of various strengths, drunk, and also while straight, to be honest i think if you can relax your mind and immerse yourself in music without any drugs you get a lot more out of it. headphones in a dark room is good!
@sandalfury No, that would be Piper At the Gates Of Down. Mua hahaha... let the flames commence. Most overrated album in the Floyd catalogue. Syd Barrett was a directionless mindfreak... some good tunes, but had he not left, Floyd would have been lost in the world of cliche acid freakout tunes forever.... Thank god for mental illness.
@sandalfury You have to remember that this is the 60's, experimental music was in full force. It's ok to be different. Not every song that a band creates is going to be great to your ears. And if it isn't music, then why are you listening to it?
rap is spelled crap, the c is silent its pronounced rap, disco sucks, new country blows, disco sucks, and what the fuck is hip-hop ? i almost have it figured out.....then you got that justin beiber thing ? im only 42 and ill admit im lost............lol no im not, im just where i want to be
Listen to this and "On the Run" at the same time with this slightly than "On The Run". Whoa...... This reminds me of "Revolution 9" by The Beatles, only less apocalyptic.

DO NOT... as adults will understand I am not saying so, they are adults so th get the point I am just making about the genius, which, obviously I had to be honest and say yeah.. I did trip when younger, but I was an adult then.. kids should never ever take anything at all, not even joint, nothing, you are developing. ;o) look after yourselves... more than anything. ;o)
its an amazing insight to floyd and how they have made something that can remind them of tripping when not... ie, flashback genus... comeback aciiiid... comeback aciiiiiid... and it works lol.. when straight, (20 tears later 4 me) - if you trip out and listen to it with your eyes closed, you are gonna come up alot and it will freak you out how powerful it is.... that's the beauty of this, if you have ever tripped out...tripping aint sommat you forget, it changes you, nothing is the same after.
@RubiconXing A song is a relatively short musical composition for the human voice (possibly accompanied by other musical instruments), which features words.

A friend had a 10x15 bomb shelter buried in his back yard which was converted into a "listening room" complete with Black walls, black lights, black light posters, color boxes, and a massive amp and speakers. This LP was the true "TEST" of your mettle.
I've always wanted to play this song in the woods and scare the hell out of boyscouts

@LuvMyDogsszzz I don't know about that. Frank Zappa has a song called: Prelude to the afternoon of a sexually aroused gas mask.

A friend had a 10x15 bomb shelter buried in his back yard which was converted into a "listening room" complete with Black walls, black lights, black light posters, color boxes, and a massive amp and speakers. This LP was the true "TEST" of your mettle.
