  • Dundas represent! gotta love it

  • Was there a third version of this song? The one I remember hearing sounded like the lead singer of the Psychedelic Furs.

  • sorry eddie, heard this original years ago... sorry eddie but you just can't touch it..

  • @spankyouverymuch1000 eddie vedder covered it for into the wild. he didnt cover it for the hell of it.

  • @stinsmeister don't care what he covered it for, they should have got someone else to do it...i like him just not on this song:)

  • I like the instruments, the feel, and the choral singing, but Vedder just has a stronger voice, and his vocals just make the song for me.

  • @MrUnknownVariable It's true, I like Vedder's voice better. This is still the first version I heard back in the 80s so I have a soft spot for it.

  • Beautiful!!! It feels so spiritual..............

  • Best song ever

  • I love eddie, love pearl jam. But i like this version alot better.

  • I love Eddie Vedder. He's probably responsible for a new wave of Indio fans, me included. So quit hating on him.

Anyway does anyone have the 12" single of Hard Sun from 1989? Apparently the B-side was an acoustic version...

  • @Tigerpuffer do you mean 12 string? or is that a dumb question?

  • @xxxnwahsxxx: No, a 12" vinyl record ;)

  • @Tigerpuffer TRUU i thought so haha

  • This song is just perfect for Into the Wild...they should've just used the original, but hell, Vedder's wasn't bad at all.

  • That awkward moment when you realise your recently discovered in-head theme tune for life, the song that speaks to your very soul, is actually an inferior cover of a beautiful musical masterpiece as old as I am... That said, I use the term inferior EXTREMELY loosely. That little fiddle solo in this version

    sold it for me though.

  • Eddie's is better, but this ain't bad either.

  • both are very good...

  • I always thought that Eddie wrote this song. Both versions sound similar but I like Vedder's version more.

  • @ericmeloman85 says on wikipedia that Indio wasn't credited for this song, and nobody asked him permission to use it. I HAVE to find this album!

  • I like Vedders version better, but honestly they sound almost exactly the same....

  • Is it just me, or is it that not many people realize that Eddie Vedder didn't write this song. This song came on the radio the other day and the radio announcer was going on about Eddie Vedder's originality in this song, when few people know that he didn't even write it. And frankly, I can't listen to Eddie Vedder's version knowing how much better(in my opinion) this one is.

  • @ThunderWolf117

Very true, people with a big broadcast voice aquire much to much intellectual hubris for the good of general knowledge. They are not to be trusted and should be challenged at every oppourtunity. Great comment.

  • Greatest song EVER!!!!!! This is My Wife and My song !

  • I knew it was a cover, but was so enamored of the song, I never bothered to look it up. Now I'm glad I bothered. THis is gorgeous.

  • who the fuck disliked this????

  • @saptz17chow People who thought that Eddie was the original writer/singer songwriter.

  • This song really moves me... So good.

  • This song is very spiritual... I love it!

  • 2 people forgot their sunscreen :D

  • this is so inspiring and deep, it doesn't seem deep but it is makes me cry

  • @zoom335is Looking at Vedder's version... It feels a bit more primitive, if that can even be used to describe such a song. I think his fits what it was used for. And in that light, I kind of like it a bit more... Also a bit partial to Vedder... It makes me sad though. I wrote a song almost IDENTICAL to this without ever hearing it. It came up on Pandora and I almost cried. Although, my song is at about 205 beats per minute and has a blistering guitar riff throughout. Same vocal melody & chords.

  • @bejerama

its all good, every writes in G-C-D... lol... i did the same thing with my two acoustics... LONG LIVE ROCK N' ROLL!!!

  • Great song. Vedder's is fine, too, and almost the same. I like the backing vocals and cleanliness of this.

  • Wow, thats actually Mavis Staples singing in the background @ 2:30 and onwards.

  • Awesome! I knew this was a cover by Ed Ved, but never listened to it until today. Usually you prefer the one you heard first, which is completely reasonable, but I think this is every bit as good. It's pretty odd that a song could be recorded twice in almost identical fashions but each invoke it's own brand of emotion.

  • One of the best song of the late 80's, yet never got the play it deserved.

  • When I scroll through all the comments: I wish E.V. never ever covered this song.

  • 2 dislikers are either marsians, cylons, rap-listenners, 9 year-olds, awsome-music haters, accidental thumbs down's, or are deaf.

  • strong lyrics, strong song, strong soul

  • gross lyrics beautiful song...

  • @finalnexus LOL whats wrong with the lyrics u cunt?

  • I still don't know if she took her "blues" or "booze" back again. this has bothered me for many years.

This song punches we men in the gut, where we don't want to look. It's about the woman, dudes. We know it. Knowing it isn't weakness. It's liberation.

  • This song has never left my consciousness. It kind of guides me. It's kind of a secret honesty we men, if we're truthful, know.

  • Why isn't Indio more well known? This song is just amazing! Maybe music to ahead of it's time? <3

  • @xogoldengirlxo1 Being Canadian, IS the curse.

  • great song, no wonder why eddie covered it, I like eddie's version more though

  • give you the humble feeling standing on a mountain peak

watching how big and fragile nature is...

  • I first listened to Vedder's song...but the original is much better!

    I love it!

    Just no Bigfoot.

  • soulful, sad, sorrowful, amazing, introspective

  • Where's the "Thumb's up" for LOVE this song?

  • @zoom335is Totally. And the violin at 2:18 sends chills shooting down my spine. It reminds of listening to the radio at 19 when things were so new...

  • This original is stunning. THANKS SO MUCH for posting this

  • Great vinyl!

  • @order57

  • Yes. X1000

  • They're very similar. Wow. I thought this was a Vedder original.

  • He copies Veds but this is much better.

  • @Piritu you do realize this is the original?

  • @Piritu

Joni Mitchell (Canadian) is singing back-ups to this Canadian classic.

  • @Piritu Eddie Vedder cover Gordon Peterson's original. ;o)

  • I just found out today that this was released way back in 89... i was surprised.

  • @dominic2014 Check out all the DETAILS. Joni Mitchell sang back-ups. How Canadian can you get?

  • gives me the chills. wow.

  • you guys arn't better than eddie vedder

  • @funkeymonkey747 this was written in 1989 Vedder didnt do his cover until 2007...

  • @koolstermcbean

Canadian (Joni Mitchell) singing back ups.

  • Yes they are.

  • the 2 dislikes are probably from casey anthony and her parents.......

  • @platter1000 That's like 3 people hot shot.

  • Vedder actually covered this song without his permission

  • Damn right there's NO DISLIKES! Changes life from the inside out!

  • @FollowingAutumn im sure those 2 dislikes were caused by your comment, but its not youre fault lol :)

  • Ouch, only 20,000 views for the original.

I`d imagine if you wrote a song that Vedder found good enough to cover, you`d deserve a little more popularity.

  • @tavishbhasin -- There's more than 20k. The original was on YouTube over 3 years ago on another page. Don't know where that page is now.

  • @77kpc but this is the original song eddie made a cover on

  • This is the first time I think someone has done a better version of a song than Vedder - EVER...

  • @77kpc No no noooo This is the original. Eddie did a remake of THIS one. Not the other way around. Though Vedder's version is amazing too.

  • @77kpc

This IS the original: Eddie did it justice by covering it. ;o)

  • How the hell had I never heard this song till the Veder remake? I fail at finding good music

  • @maskwahn when your friends tell you about a great band that isn't on the radio or in music vids give it a chance you might like it! yeasayer ambling alp is a great song and I'm not sure that many people know who they are. andy mckee if your into instrumental folk music. I just kind of jump from vid to vid on youtube too that helps out a lot! good luck peace on love!

  • somehow this anthem always makes me think of that "one" girl. haunting, along the same vein as "clocks"? hmmm.

  • wonderful

  • The original is always better.

  • @TurtlePondFarmer GOD! this IS the original!

  • @Zaoozas I KNOW! Thats what I meant. Thank you for posting this awesome HQ version.

  • @TurtlePondFarmer oh...ok then

  • Amazing song.... amazing voice...

  • A true canadian talent. Would love to hear more from Indio.

  • wait....0 dislikes? Holy shit this is actually a triumph

  • @bmwlee95 lol

  • why didnt this song become a hit ? so weird

  • Like this on better...

  • This is great ... I also like Eddies version fit the movie

  • WHEN I WALK BESIDE HER

    I AM A BETTER MAN

    OMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOM

  • its to bad Eddie had to make this a hit. props for Eddie for giving this song its well deserved recognition and props to Indio for making a song actually worth its recognition. a second props to Eddie for not changing anything and even more props to Indio for making the song so that it was perfect the way it is

  • @17bdawg NO GIVING HIM DOUBLE PROPS!!! :p

  • one of my most favorite songs off all time!! glad I found it :)) THanks for posting it <3 <3 <3

  • this song makes me think of a girl I'd like to love. I can just see her smiling at me, laughing so sweetly. o, she's still bearing down on me.

  • im canadian and i say eh all the time... bro gord and eddie are slayers of strings

  • glad Eddie covered this to bring attention to this beautiful song. also, glad Indio is suing to get what he deserves. he deserves alot.

  • I knew this song was covered by Eddie, but I didn't realize that he pretty much copied it not for note. Only real noticeable difference is the deletion of the one violin bit. Kind of disappointing for such a guy like Eddie. Though I recall hearing he really liked this song, so I am hoping he kept it very faithful in homage.

  • @loggerbomb What's wrong with covering a song? It fits the movie so well too.

  • I like the original better then the eddie v version. I also like the original one because it's CANADIAN, like me!!!!!!!!!

  • @BIGlittleman010203 Canadian eh?

  • @Roberttellem YEAH and proud of it. Hey and we don't say eh, that's a stereotype man.

  • @BIGlittleman010203 LOLOL I was just kidding bro. No hate, all love. <3 ;)

  • @BIGlittleman010203

Eddie actually made the cover very similar , they even have similar voice, too bad the original didn't do too well and he didn't continue singing.

But Eddie made his song famous, which is good because now people know this great song.

  • this song just melts my heart and mind. I feel like going on a long car trip listening to it.

  • This not Eddie V, this is the original by Indio, 1989

  • @pfajohn

Totally correct! Canadian. Joni Mitchell has back-up vocals on this song. Listen for it.

  • @pfajohn It depresses me that you have to remind people that, considering all that info is in the title and the description. >.<

  • I think thats Eddie Vedder, isn't it?

  • @VincentVega00777

Gordon Peterson: the original singer fro 1989 (Canada). Mr. Vedder merely covered it.

  • @EasilyWowed

    Well good 2 know, thanks!

  • What an awesome song. There is something so beautiful about the lyrics. It has this redemption quality that touched me the first time I heard it. I am sure most people can relate to the feeling of this song.
