I'm confused.. You skipped the tricky bit of compression, being the time component.

Setting a threshold and the level in a mix is the easy part, and surely not what people are having trouble with.

Would you mind talking through your decisions with regards tot he attack and release times you chose?

@chillaxative I tried replying with my iPhone but I don't see it here in the comments. Ok, so once you start using compression for 10 yrs its basically pretty easy. For Vocals Attack (5ms-20ms) Release (50ms-200ms). Slower attack (15-20) produces the vocal transients to cut through more. Faster Release (50ms) like on a 1176 brings out the distortion character of the compressor to the vocals. Hope this helps!

Sounded better to me when everything was bypassed. Sounded like it blended with the track better. After you processed it, the vocals sounded like they didn't belong
