This is what Leonard Cohen said about his masterpiece, "It explains that many kinds of hallelujahs do exist, and all the perfect and broken hallelujahs have equal value."
Its about time people got it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......I have heard a version of it with a 11 year old girl singing. It's very good. You can really see how the song is for everyone:)..Eva Hallelujah
The acoustic did not come off too well... At different part of the performance the music actually drowned out Michael Bolton voice. This could have been his mic turn too low, the building or the arrangement itself. His performance of this same song on "dancing with the stars" is far more superior.
excellent interpretation, tuching music; but the words are far from fitting for the place and time; and have nothing to do with the meaning of Hallelujah.
Well evidently the religious institutions seem to believe its a religious song...he was singing in a church with bishops and cardinals seated in the front row...lol
@miransp I've been toying with the meaning of this song for awhile actually (because I'd rather not take delight in a song that insults God or anything) and come to the conclusion it is a religious song. The first stanza talks about David and Bathsheba, the second is Samson and Delilah. The broken Hallelujah is when someone hits bottom and cries for God. It's saying that God doesn't treasure just the 'Holy Hallelujahs in church or when we're happy, He loves when we come to Him all the time.
@TWB141 Here the third stanza is changed saying how he'd 'been there before' and 'walked this room.' I'm thinking the person went to church but never really got it. Then something happened and things fell apart and they cried out with broken spirit for God. And now they're not alone anymore because God was right there. In the original, the last stanza deals with the narrator admitting they messed up, but singing praises to God because God was always there even though they ignored Him.

Bolton is one of too few singers who actually sound better live.
