Very true! Unfortunately, this music is dieing. The newer generations rarely appreciate these classics. 9 times out of 10 if you talk to someone about Beethoven (or any other of the great composers) most will think you're talking about a dog that drools a lot.
It's sad to think about just how uncultured the future of our world will be.
Bah, don't worry. Classical music and popular music/pop-culture have always lived side by side. It's with the rise of the digital age that popular music has literally becaome more pupular, but classical music has benefited too. Just think about being able to carry wagners ring on an ipod. (and more)
popular music lives in the moment, it's a phase thing. today it's the beetles, later it's michael jackson, then it's someone else, etc.

if you want to see an amazing ninth symphony performance, see the movie "Copying Beethoven" its worth it just for that scene but its a decent movie
