I only question studies like that only because I wonder where did they get the 100% to break down the percentage. To really get a full understanding is to have 3 full 100%, meaning 100% taino, 100% african, 100% spanish to even get a full 100% of what people are or arent..
For such a long time i believed that my Taino people were gone. Thanks to my interests in the Hawaiian struggles,i am searching for the truth about my native blood. How can i get a DNA test to determine my Taino lineage?
i know how a lot of people b sayin dat da taino people r exinct but further suggests dat in da carribean islands support a group of people called mestizo (mixture of european and native indian) techinically speakin although there arent full blooded tainos those whos ancestry traces back 2 da beginning of caribbean islands, ur a mixture of dat of da tainos and europeans
@machetezone lmaooo! Your countrys people have a good amount of canarian ancestry. why are u denying your caucasian side? Did a white man fuck with you?
MY FATHERS GRANDFATHER LOOKED INDIAN STARIGHT HAIR WE WAS DARK BROWN LOOK LIKE A INDIAN BUT HES MOTHER WAS AFRO PUERTORICAN SO HE LOOKED INDIAN BUT HE WAS MIX SO LOOKS DONT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH IT.
OH LORD WE ARE MIX ALL OF US FROM THE BLACKEST TO THE BROWNES TO THE WHITES WE ALL ARE MIX WITH AFRICAN SPANISH INDIAN FRENCH AND MENY MORE. WHEN IS THIS BULLSHIT GONNA END.
I'm not tryin to be racist, I'm just stating the facts.
WHITE PEOPLE HAVE CREATED SO MUCH BULLSHIT IN THIS WORLD, AND NOW THESE DAYS THEY WALK AROUND AND PRETEND TO BE CLUELESS TO THE FACT THAT THEY FUCKED UP EVERYBODY ELSES WAY OF LIFE ONLY SO THAT THEY CAN LIVE THEIR WAY OF LIFE.....SERIOUSLY, HOW LOW CAN YOU BE TO TAKE AWAY A PEOPLES IDENTITY, AND THEN GIVE THEM A NEW IDENTITY....THATS PURE SCUM & WICKEDNESS
THERES ALOT OF KARMIC DEBT THAT WHITE PPL GOTTA PAY N ITS NOT EVEN FUNNY
My grandmother used to tell me that her grandmother was taino descendant and did not speak much spanish. Growing up I always felt inclined to identify myself as taino. looking at myself in a mirror I could see a taino indian. Most puertoricans, like 60% or more, have brown skin, black straight hair and many physical attributes like those described by historians from the taino indians. It gives me a warm feeling to know that other brothers & sisters are going back to their ancestors roots.
This is total nonsense. Just because someone has a very small amount of taino ancestry does not mean that they are of taino descent. The study that was done on Puerto Ricans determined that %52 of the population carried taino genetics, but many of these people only carry very insignificant amounts. This does NOT constitute as being taino. In the United States, many so called "white" Americans have slight admixtures as well, but no one considers themselves native american just because of that.
@LoneCuetlachtli Well! I am not denying any Spanish decent or African, actually my father is from PR and My mother is chinesse! so I dont know where my genetics starts or end lol! .... What I am not agreen is with the statement that P-ricans are ashamed of avoiding to feel part or decents of Taino. but the topic is very interesting, How can I really check my DNA? is there a kit or something like that?
I had no clue and I have never heard in my life, a Puertorican saying that he/she is Spanish. VEVER! lol! I am from PR. Vivi toda mi ninez y juventud, hasta que sali a la universidad, Nunca nadie que sea de la isla, me ha dicho que esta avergonzado, o que tiene miedo o falta de orgullo en decir Somos de Origen Taino. Love the way you presented your show, but dont agree with your statement of we been Spanish or some other weird stuff. lol! take care
People are free to relate and identify with any ethnic group they feel like, it´s no secret that most of the people in the Americas mainly Latin America have indigenous blood lines in their lineage. I say it´s enriching to have variety, however I find it sarcastic that people around the world admire and identify with native culture and cosmovision except Latin American mestizos who try at all costs to hide their native heritage
Mayaguez,Arecibo, Jayuya, Utuado, the mayority of the towns, rivers, plants, fruits and other foods still retain their Taino names. Many nouns are still taino in our Jibaro Spanish. The way of planting and the herbal medicine is still Taino. Our music still uses the Guiro and maracas, we still use Tabacco to purify our spiritual rituals, if that is not culture I don't know what is. I'm 1/4 Taino blood according to my DNA and 100% Jibaro . That my friend is Taino
@Domingo12754...In the USA, there are many states that have indigenous names (Illinois, Nebraska, Tennessee, Kentucky,Oklahoma, Mississippi, MIssouri...).All Americans eat corn(a native food). Many natural herbs & plants are used in modern American medicine. Drums (that are present in MANY cultures are common in American music.Tobacco is the addiction of MILLIONS. Does that mean that all Americans are "indians"?
NO, most Americans are NOT indians,no matter what microscopic DNA they might have.
@bayamonkey Your argument does not stand, of the 78 towns in PR. THE MAJORITY have Taino names. Not some as in your example but the majority. In our language Taino words abound. US english has but a sprinkle of native words. I never said all Americans are native not even most. However most meaning at least 62% in PR are of Taino descent. Yes you eat corn, but we still call it by it's original name and some still plant it with the phases of the moon in the traditional way. Sanano
@Domingo12754 62% from mtDNA (mother's line ONLY) from a small survey (not accounting the totality of the population sir! We can't adopt as puertoricans a native american identity because many of us are mixed and then there's a hugh population that remained spanish because of endogamyc practices. If you were not born here or are not versed in antrhopological knowledge dont pretend to talk as if you knew please, that's vulgar.
That my friend is self-identification and you have all the freedom in the world to see yourself in whatever manner you prefer but anthropologically speaking you are less taino than you are something else. Las cosas como son mi gente!
@dbbrainer Anthropologically speaking? There are many in that field which would differ with you with all due respect. And yes I was born in Arecibo, from el barrio Tanama. The small survey you mention has now been done in Cuba, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. I never said that Puerto Ricans should adopt a native American identity. I limited myself to just mention that the blood is still there.
Again sir, not accounting for the totality (or a majority) of the population. I wasn't sampled nor any friend or relative that I know. I am sure that if it were a comprehensive survey it would include more people than it has. Certainly the blood is still there. Only ignorant racist selg hating fools would deny it but the data and ist interpretation are completely misinterpreted for what is not. Beware of that.
@dbbrainer THE MAJHORITY IN PR IS TREE RACIAL MEAN HALF AFRO HALF WHITE AND HALF TAINO MINORITY BLACK THEY AVE MANY WHITE EUROPEEN AND THE MESTIZO HALFF WHITE AND HALF TAINO MANY OF THEM
@dbbrainer LOLIF YOU DONT KNOW ALREADY MANY PORTO RICAN ARE MESTIZO HALF WHITE AND HALF TAINO AND YES THEY AVE TAINO IN PR IM NOT PORTO RICAN BUT MY PORTO RICAN FRIENDS TALL ME THAT
In the U.S.,I meet people who are white, but claim to be "part"native American,BUT still identify as FULLY white.NO ONE questions them, but if they claim to have ANY "Black" blood, they cannot claim to be "white".
The USA is full of native "fakes" who just want to "prove" how much they are into diversity & want to be "exotic".
1 woman claims 1/256th "native" blood, but "accidentally"lives in an all-white neighborhood with 5 white kids &of course a white husband.Naturally, she also "looks White".
@SebastianQuinsella Our ancient ancestors, Grandmothers, survive through their decendants in various stages of assimilation and blending with other peoples.
DNA is irrelevant when it comes to culture. You could have a great great grandmother who was Chinese, but if you're born and raised in Puerto Rico and speak Spanish as your primary language then your a Puerto Rican. It's as simple as that. Taíno culture in PR no longer exists PERIOD. Just because you have a drop of Taíno blood way back in your family does not make you an Amerindian. Trying to cling to a past that no longer exists is pathetic at best. YOUR TURN, MATE.
@Shoegazer3000 that has to be one of the most ignorant things i've read on youtube. you are basically telling people that they shouldnt care about their identity or the identity of their ancestors but rather the identity that they have now, even though its a lie. the same ppl that taught puerto ricans that they are spanish are decendants of the very people who attempted and still attempt to wipe out the native population of the americas...BUT YOU SAY THE PAST IS THE PAST.
OMFG!!!---What a fucking looser!!!--Dude, what's up with the terrorist costume!!--First, one can tell by just listening to you that you have the IQ of a lemon---your eyes look like you're high on crack---and if you're Boricua I'm a Tasmanian Devil!!--If you're not some loon high on drugs, or some anarchist wannabe, then maybe you're a Castro-paid loser who'll do anything for money---I've got a suggestion: SEEK A SHRINK!!!--Preferably a Boricua who can place you where you belong--a "HAPPY HOME!!
I hope that the Puerto Rican people wake up and not buy into this rubbish. Taino culture does not exist in Puerto Rico. No one speaks the language. No one has Taino surnames. Get real. The people of Puerto Rico have many origins mainly European and African which make the Puerto Rican people of today. I know Puerto Ricans of Spanish descent, Corsican descent and even Lebanese descent. Blond Puerto Ricans, black Puerto Ricans. They are all proud Puerto Ricans, not Tainos.
I'm guessing you were doing just as your name implies--gazing at your shoe--and not thinking straight while you wrote what you wrote on this video. First, I thought hmm maybe a government cronie, but nahh that's too easy. But then I thought hmmm what does this person have against the POSSIBILITY of such in the video. Anyone with half a brain should allow that, so I suggest rethinking your comment at least. Anything is possible, and even probable if DNA is showing this. TRY AGAIN.
Papitores....with his mask he has a reason, not a terrorist I know him, he's mohawk (kahnatinehaka)/rican with taino blood mixed that his mother took dna tested done.
bayamonkey, papitored,Punkdude1991 obviously you guys have not been exposed to certain types of harrassments for a political or cultural point of View, . I am Boricua , grandson of the Natal of Utuado, Gonzalez's of Quebradilla , son of Santiago, so yea my family is Proud Taino and Jibaros.I also happen to be a disabled Combat Veteran, as well as have walked "red path "no comen ni dejan comer" types, or "Haters. His mask lol , hey you dont know his reason,, hiding his ID to prevent backlash ,
I'm Proud to Be PuertoRican...We're celebrating PR in our community this summer and I was going to post you video on my page until I saw you. And you started rambling about the Gov taking away this and that and genocide. Dude I'm ashamed of folks like you, that instead of uniting our people you do what every other racist does, DIVIDE. Grow Up and understand the the World is an ever changing world. Unity will help us and Division will kill us.
Its a great video but you need to be careful the way you present your self to be taken seriously. You look like some terrorist, common man. Thats not us. Your misrepresenting us by doing so. Take that mask off, there is no shame. and anotherthing is that your bringing in too many topics to the table. your talking about genicide, common man, seriously. No one has taken or stolen like you say anything away, each person chooses how they want to live, but I guess thats another book. Look at you.
@papitored You make some good points but need to study your history a bit more. Most of what was native American has been destroyed. My grandmother and great grandmother where not even allowed to show their face when pure blood spanish would visit the spanish part of my family.
IM HALF PUERTO RICAN & HALF MEXICAN..BUT MY GRANDPARENTS ON MY DADS SIDE WERE BORN IN JAYUA,PUERTO RICO. bUT I THOUGHT PUERTO RICANS HAVE SPANISH &BLACK IN THEM TOO??? I ALREADY KNEW I HAVE TAINO INDIAN IN ME. IM CONFUSED.
If your fathers paternal bloodline goes back directly to the Taino man. Then your Taino. The man carries the seed (sperm) of a nation. Don't believe the lies the so-called white man tells you.
@kearamendez21 YOU.AVE.TAINO B LOOD.INYOULOOK IM MEXICAN.AND.DOMINICAN M Y FATHER ARE.FROMCIBAO REPUBLICADOMINI CANA.IS M ULATO . TREE RASIAL.LIKE.ME.ANDMYMOTHER.ISMEXICANA CHI CHIMECA AND.IAV E T AIN O CHI HIMECA.AFRO ANDWHITE.IN MY B LOOD
why is ur faceg cover like if u were in some sord of gorilla anti goverment militia....and by the way...that in the background is a US amerindian...NOT TAINO!!!!
MANIKATOEX black people have documents, and have word of mouth of native ancestry but, they are still outcast in native society. why should you not be outcasted taino's lived long ago and since then you intergrated with europeans, and blacks etc...
Thank you for making that so Clear to others. I've always known that I was indigenous. Never Spanish... Asian eyes, white skin and straight Br. hair. 2010 Assimulated now into the chineese culture in the Lower E. side (Manhattan)
Ho Lah Ha Chee Green --See you next time..... Peace...
You are MOSTLY mulatto. I am tired of you people with this bullshit. First you tried to be white, when that did not work with the white man, you stuck close by your black brothers (although you don't see it that way), you hate to be called black no matter what you look like. Now you start that "boriqua' shit to call ourselves something else since the white man won't let you in. To keep selling this false history because you are ashamed of you blackness does a disservice to yourselves
Look man, you know nothing about boricuas and the fact that many of us do desend from them most. Tainos highly populated the whole fucking caribbean along with arawak and caribs blacks were heavily populated on islands like haiti jamaica and the lesser antilles Now our mixtures are 20% caucasian 40% indigenous 30% negro 10% asian now mexica are 60% indigenous 20% asian 10% caucasian 10% negro do the fucking math genius.
Gettin angry when you get exposed huh? YOUR mixtures go like this (REAL SHIT), 40% mulatto (in one way or another), 30% black (or black-like), ~15% white (or white-like) and the rest COULD be some DISTANT native blood. I can say that there MAY be some native blood, but it is in the far past. I am not counting any 'other' immigrants form other countries, I am only going by the types that started it, the white type man from Spain, the African and what was left of the natives. PROVE me wrong
P.R. is only 11% mulatto (wikipedia) while D.R. ranks the highest at 73% Sure, some of us might've been sprinkled anywhere from african, chinese, french, italian, lebanese, (even cuban, to add more indigenous lineage). My great grandfather was born 1898 the year of the spanish american war he lived in the mountains knew all about herbs and crops he drank MABI, smoked TABAKO, ate CASABI bread! Even the american soldiers spoke of how (Many) Boricua's resembled indigenous from america.
Wikipedia huh? Lol! If you REALLY believe that PR is 11% mulatto and DR is actually that to begin with - then you are THAT much afraid of your African heritage or you are a nut! Again, if you look like a Mexican, then you are native. If you look black, white (you people count white traits as being all white) or mixed (the majority), then you are mulatto. You know it when you look in the mirror, when you don't look Mexican and when you can't get into the KKK!
Before you start saying how Boricua's aren't of native blood you need to do some real research. Thousands of my ancestors had to hide in caves around the mountainous regions of P.R. so how could they have been counted in any census? how is it that we know certain Taino legends and folk stories also the families that traced their Taino lineage as far back as the 1500's (historian Juan David) you can't get this from the history books, our history was pass down through word of mouth not paper.
@MANIKATOEX: "My people." I guess you have to try and convince yourself. Listen, the Spaniards had interaction with the natives so of course they will learn some of their ways. Look at the US, we have some natives ways even though you KNOW most of them were wiped out. Arabs in Egypt, Iraq and other non-arab origin places have some of the ways of the peoples land they took, it does not make these people them. Fact is, you want to escape blackness with nativeness. Accept your blackness.
How can a population of (so called) non-indigenous people take on ways that were banned by spanish law? If you spoke, looked or even acted Taino you Fucking Died! Any cultural traits left, only survived from passing it down family to family QUIETLY. Dr. Juan Carlos Martinez's DNA study Proved that 70% of his volenteers had mitochondrial dna in P.R. You asked for proof and I delivered but so far your only defense is assumption. GIVE ME SOMETHING OTHER THAN BULLSHIT!!!
@MANIKATOEX "If you spoke, LOOKED..." My point proven by you! If you LOOKED native you died. It supports the FACTS that most (at least 90%) were KILLED before the colony was established! The colonizers learned some of the ways and kept those that were useful. Happens all of the time, read history, not BS like you want to give people. Thanks for you proof. Also, in a society where almost everyone is mixed, doing DNA studies on a SELECT few means nothing. ALL have to be tested.
Well these so called select few were your average P.R. islanders (picked out of a hat) and if relevant indigenous DNA was found in them, then what could that possibly mean for many others? Look my point is even if almost all my ancestors were killed, then their desendants however mixed, have the right to whats left of our indigenous culture. There are over 3200 words in carribean spanish that are of Taino/Arawak origin so how could the gov. tell us we speak spanish when we really speak creole?
Im studying world history & self discovery. Im a black woman from the uk. My parents are from Jamaica. When you look at my people, some people are puzzled by their appearance. We are no different than people from south america. You can definately tell that there is a strong african link, but as with me, you can clearly see the features of the native people of the land and possibly a little european. Thank you for this info. It has been a great help of me understanding who I am.
People are people i'm taino but so what lets face it our culture is gone. Are we going to pretend that we know what are ancestors did? Its one thing to recognize who you are and its another when you create false traditions. Its sad but never the less its the truth.
well native americans are everywhere dont you see the brown people with straight hair and pointy nose? Most of them were conquered by the spaniards, and english which is why they speak spanish and english, alot of them even live in Hawaii, North and South America, the carribean and different parts of Europe like Australia and New Zealand. I myself have Cherokee and Native blood. Its a shame when we dont even know who we are. Most of the spanish speaking carribean have mostly native blood.
for those that think tainos dont exist and think its typical youtube thing ur wrong bc i live in pr and there is tainos all over i can tell u people that do look indian and there puerto rican for example zion from zion y lennox (reggaeton group he is taino) and there is a place in ponce where they have a museum about the taino people its called tibres they show all u need to know.
Crazynative4...here in ny city my family doesnt look very white or black...strongly native lookings more than i am just me and my unlce r light skinned anyway
DNA does not lie...problem is people see what they want to see and acxcept what they want to ccept...so eeven if a dead Taino Chief were to come back from the dead this racist gulity ridden society we live in will say..he is no native and then proceed to kill him in cold blood.
You know why because there many decendents of the comquistadores who still carry the hatred of thier kind in thier blood. They still think themselves the owners of the universe,,,and that hate is written in thier DNA.
According to the study funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation, 61 percent of all Puerto Ricans have Amerindian mitochondrial DNA, 27 percent have African and 12 percent Caucasian. (Nuclear DNA, or the genetic material present in a genes nucleus, is inherited in equal parts from ones father and mother. Mitochondrial DNA is inherited only from ones mother and does not change or blend with other materials over time.)In other words a majority of Puerto Ricans have Native blood.

well to be honest most puerto ricans and caribbeans have taino african and european lineage but what matters the most is not culture religion no politics it is were we stand true to ourselves as a people. gotta go beyond the culture and look at the soul of a person or people

heres why i think this video stupid. he may be right about all this but who cares? just dont go sayin im pr around the street waving ur flag because u have nothin else to do in life. im asian indian.. am i going around waving my flag n shit? no. o wait now u say i have no pride in my culture... bullshit. i dont believe in culture, ethnicity and religion. i believe everything thought to us from the start is a lie.. if not a lie, a really twisted truth.
who cares that your asian indian you dumb fuk!!!! double beat your feet you white ass kisser!!!! keep your dumb ass comments to yourself and do your homework on your own history!!!!!
for those of you who claim to be from the sacred house but deny your taino ancestry and work to ridicule those who have seen through the lies of the white thieves and of sell outs who embraced white culture you need to wake up and shake off the numbing effects of the drugs or alcohol you've consumed and take a good look in the mirror. AND WAKE THE FUCK UP
the facts are pretty simple. the taino live. their blood never went extinct. from the beginning the spanish invaders have sought to claim we were blacks and thus were slaves in their eyes. and today the u.s. has done their best to scatter our people by relocating them to new internment camps within the u.s. so they can claim our land and poison our future
already fromed many Taino groups in different states and within carribeans even goes to powwows and some few ricans with Taino mixed natives living in mohawk reservation or cree rez...I consider myself mixed native or boricua (taino word for boriken) and not puerto rican (named puerto rico island by columbus and his men spaniards) fk em they don't deserve it by named island "puerto rico" anyway.
Culturally extinct? No not true there's some regalias, geometrical lines, cohoba,Tabanuko even our language is already bought back almost completely especially cemis, if u says culturally extinct that's show we don't know nothing maybe one or two that's it ya know? Even pakuri arawak our related ones are happy to see us mixed taino natives coming back together, Tainkaya kurixia ke yukahu cacona uara. Oma'bahari kuyari.
Having said that, I do believe it's a noble endeavor to resurrect the music and songs, to rebuild the ancient musical instruments, to carry on new rituals that honor Taino legacy, etc. I think anyone who is PR and honors his ancestors should incorporate these elements into their ancestral reverence practices: in fact we're already doing it. Cojoba, the rite of offering tobacco to spirits, lives on in espiritista and santeria rituals, but has its origins in Taino spirituality.
We aren't Taino just like we are not Spaniards. The Tainos were CULTURALLY extinct. Their DNA does not make us Taino. We can only claim to have Taino ancestry, which is quite different. We do not have a full record of the language of spirituality of the ancestors, and reviving Taino religion and culture would be impossible, the most we can do is create a new Neo-Taino paradigm, but it would inevitably be a Latin American modern cultural phenomenon, comparable to the Wiccan revival.
Saadaya- Most Spanairds during the slave trade were mixed (not white). Black Arabs (Moors) ruled Spain for Centuries before it became Catholic. Spainards then looked like dark Puerto Ricans of Today. An African Mixture ! Locate Spain on a World May (Its North West of Africa some would argue it is Africa).
Most Native American (Indian) cultures were Extinct at some part in American History. Due to manditory relocation and or extermination. Most Native Americans in the USA are mixed and do identify themselves as Cherokee, Comanche, Navajo, Creek, Seminole and etc... All are technically Mixed. The DNA is a curved Test to have a specific Result based on a Specific Tribal Race/Culture. So your statment is incorrect you should call yourselves Taino. That is your right.
i dont agree with you im from puerto rico and i work with the top scientist and the top history teachers from san juan to ponce you name it almoust all around puerto rico i did so much with dna studis with white puertorican and indians and we all are mix with african fron the whitest to the blackest.

and it's sad that you are denying your heritage. these are your ancestors. this may have happens years ago, but their blood runs through your veins, the same blood that was spilled to make America what it is today, a selfish and uncultured country, whether you like it or not....so sad.
wow, i had no idea you had done genealogies on all 8 MILLION Puerto Ricans living both on & off the island.
Oh!!! You didn't?
Well then how do you make such a ridiculous claim about all of us?And given that the majority of PRs on the island today are the descendants of 19th century immigration, your claim is even more absurd (&impossible). My particular family is Basque,Corsican & Canary Islander. And NONE of them have ever met a Taino before or after they immigrated to the Island.
and judging by your ghetto-gangstah costume with carefully coordinated camouflage accessories, i would bet you have NEVER been to Puerto Rico, NEVER seen a Taino and NEVER left Pennsylvania. Now I know why NONE of my family never saw a Taino in Puerto Rico, they never went to look for them in Pennsylvania. And do you really expect to be taken seriously by intelligent people? You should be ashamed of yourself. Happy pow-wows to you.
@bayamonkey wow, its sad to see how blind and ignorant people can be, it doesnt really matter if hes been to puerto rico or not, SERIOUSLY WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES THAT MAKE?? truth is truth....so called puerto ricans are victims to genocide and you have the nerve to get offended at that fact.
Puerto ricans are the natives of that land, but just like many other natives and people of color, THEY ARE NOW AN OPPRESSED AND BLIND PEOPLE
@arab3515...you write"Puerto Ricans"are the naives of that land" 1st of all, the indigenous people WERE NOT "Puerto Ricans". They were Tainos. So what? And the Mohawks and Iroquois are the "natives" of New York. So what? They are gone from Wall St.., 5th Ave. & Central Park. So what. History is filled with the stories of peoples who where dominated by others. Does that mean that the conquerors should go away and we all go back to our caves and rub sticks together to make fire?YOU need to read!
@bayamonkey yes, and so called puerto ricans ARE THE TAINOS. thats why i say they are the natives of that land smart ass.
and yes, there is a pattern story of conquerors killing of thousands of people and stealing land and turning it into waste....obviously it doesnt matter in your eyes, but in my opinion, YES, THEY SHOULD GIVE THE LAND BACK TO THE RIGHTFUL OWNERS...but since i know they wont do that willingly, IM SURE THAT WHEN PPL WAKE UP, EVERYTHING WILL BE RESTORED
To say "Most Puerto Ricans Are Taino Natives"is pretty iirresponsible even in the delusional world of cyberspace.I am from Puerto Rico & that statement is a very FAR stretch from the truth,no matter how many fake suede Navajo loin cloths they wear in the portorican day parade in duh Bronx. just because you want this to be so, doesn't make it so,but sadly there are plenty of idiots in the world that will just go home & stick a peacock feather up their ass & are now Tainos...So sad
so sad that you don't let people be who they wanna be and let them express themselves how they want, but I guess puerto ricans prancing around in tights with a red cloth while fighting a bull don't make them spaniards either, my people calls that wayramushpa, best translation to that is ya'll don't know where the hell you come from therefore you have no culture.
porta, i also live in PR and let me tell you this video is one pile of ignorant acomplejado brainwash. I have NEVER met a Taino Indian, except when I went to see the NYC PR Parade and saw idiot ghetto-ricans jumping through fire hoops and dressed like Apaches. What a pathetic bunch of losers stealing the history of REAL native people. We on the Island are ashamed of these sell-out clowns who can't decide if they want to be fake Tainos or fake Niggers. What a mess. We don't want them back ever!
It is sad, but it makes me happy that the brothers in Puerto Rico are awakening today. Sadly things like this is irrelevant in Dominican Republic, AND ITS THE SAME PEOPLE! Sad
I only question studies like that only because I wonder where did they get the 100% to break down the percentage. To really get a full understanding is to have 3 full 100%, meaning 100% taino, 100% african, 100% spanish to even get a full 100% of what people are or arent..

It gives me a warm feeling to know that other brothers & sisters are going back to their ancestors roots.
priestpega 10 months ago
This is total nonsense. Just because someone has a very small amount of taino ancestry does not mean that they are of taino descent. The study that was done on Puerto Ricans determined that %52 of the population carried taino genetics, but many of these people only carry very insignificant amounts. This does NOT constitute as being taino. In the United States, many so called "white" Americans have slight admixtures as well, but no one considers themselves native american just because of that.
SuperStrive60 11 months ago

Domingo12754 1 year ago
@Domingo12754...In the USA, there are many states that have indigenous names (Illinois, Nebraska, Tennessee, Kentucky,Oklahoma, Mississippi, MIssouri...).All Americans eat corn(a native food). Many natural herbs & plants are used in modern American medicine. Drums (that are present in MANY cultures are common in American music.Tobacco is the addiction of MILLIONS. Does that mean that all Americans are "indians"?
NO, most Americans are NOT indians,no matter what microscopic DNA they might have.
bayamonkey 1 year ago
@bayamonkey Your argument does not stand, of the 78 towns in PR. THE MAJORITY have Taino names. Not some as in your example but the majority. In our language Taino words abound. US english has but a sprinkle of native words. I never said all Americans are native not even most. However most meaning at least 62% in PR are of Taino descent. Yes you eat corn, but we still call it by it's original name and some still plant it with the phases of the moon in the traditional way. Sanano
Domingo12754 1 year ago
@Domingo12754 62% from mtDNA (mother's line ONLY) from a small survey (not accounting the totality of the population sir! We can't adopt as puertoricans a native american identity because many of us are mixed and then there's a hugh population that remained spanish because of endogamyc practices. @dbbrainer Anthropologically speaking? There are many in that field which would differ with you with all due respect. @Domingo12754
Again sir, not accounting for the totality (or a majority) of the population. I wasn't sampled nor any friend or relative that I know.

Now you start that "boriqua' shit to call ourselves something else since the white man won't let you in. To keep selling this false history because you are ashamed of you blackness does a disservice to yourselves

MANIKATOEX 1 year ago
Gettin angry when you get exposed huh? YOUR mixtures go like this (REAL SHIT), 40% mulatto (in one way or another), 30% black (or black-like), ~15% white (or white-like) and the rest COULD be some DISTANT native blood. I can say that there MAY be some native blood, but it is in the far past. I am not counting any 'other' immigrants form other countries, I am only going by the types that started it, the white type man from Spain, the African and what was left of the natives. PROVE me wrong
n0gar 1 year ago 2
P.R. is only 11% mulatto (wikipedia) while D.R. ranks the highest at 73% Sure, some of us might've been sprinkled anywhere from african, chinese, french, italian, lebanese, (even cuban, to add more indigenous lineage). My great grandfather was born 1898 the year of the spanish american war he lived in the mountains knew all about herbs and crops he drank MABI, smoked TABAKO, ate CASABI bread! Even the american soldiers spoke of how (Many) Boricua's resembled indigenous from america.
MANIKATOEX 1 year ago
Wikipedia huh? Lol! If you REALLY believe that PR is 11% mulatto and DR is actually that to begin with - then you are THAT much afraid of your African heritage or you are a nut! Again, if you look like a Mexican, then you are native. If you look black, white (you people count white traits as being all white) or mixed (the majority), then you are mulatto. You know it when you look in the mirror, when you don't look Mexican and when you can't get into the KKK!
n0gar 1 year ago
Before you start saying how Boricua's aren't of native blood you need to do some real research. Thousands of my ancestors had to hide in caves around the mountainous regions of P.R. so how could they have been counted in any census? how is it that we know certain Taino legends and folk stories also the families that traced their Taino lineage as far back as the 1500's (historian Juan David) you can't get this from the history books, our history was pass down through word of mouth not paper.
MANIKATOEX 1 year ago
@MANIKATOEX: "My people." I guess you have to try and convince yourself. Listen, the Spaniards had interaction with the natives so of course they will learn some of their ways. Look at the US, we have some natives ways even though you KNOW most of them were wiped out. Arabs in Egypt, Iraq and other non-arab origin places have some of the ways of the peoples land they took, it does not make these people them. Fact is, you want to escape blackness with nativeness. Accept your blackness.
n0gar 1 year ago 2
How can a population of (so called) non-indigenous people take on ways that were banned by spanish law? If you spoke, looked or even acted Taino you Fucking Died! Any cultural traits left, only survived from passing it down family to family QUIETLY. Dr. Juan Carlos Martinez's DNA study Proved that 70% of his volenteers had mitochondrial dna in P.R. You asked for proof and I delivered but so far your only defense is assumption. GIVE ME SOMETHING OTHER THAN BULLSHIT!!!
MANIKATOEX 1 year ago
@MANIKATOEX "If you spoke, LOOKED..." My point proven by you! If you LOOKED native you died. It supports the FACTS that most (at least 90%) were KILLED before the colony was established! The colonizers learned some of the ways and kept those that were useful. Happens all of the time, read history, not BS like you want to give people. Thanks for you proof. Also, in a society where almost everyone is mixed, doing DNA studies on a SELECT few means nothing. ALL have to be tested.
n0gar 1 year ago
Well these so called select few were your average P.R. islanders (picked out of a hat) and if relevant indigenous DNA was found in them, then what could that possibly mean for many others? Look my point is even if almost all my ancestors were killed, then their desendants however mixed, have the right to whats left of our indigenous culture. There are over 3200 words in carribean spanish that are of Taino/Arawak origin so how could the gov. tell us we speak spanish when we really speak creole?

the facts are pretty simple. the taino live. their blood never went extinct. from the beginning the spanish invaders have sought to claim we were blacks and thus were slaves in their eyes. and today the u.s. has done their best to scatter our people by relocating them to new internment camps within the u.s. so they can claim our land and poison our future

Cojoba, the rite of offering tobacco to spirits, lives on in espiritista and santeria rituals, but has its origins in Taino spirituality.
saadaya 2 years ago
We aren't Taino just like we are not Spaniards. The Tainos were CULTURALLY extinct. Their DNA does not make us Taino. We can only claim to have Taino ancestry, which is quite different. We do not have a full record of the language of spirituality of the ancestors, and reviving Taino religion and culture would be impossible, the most we can do is create a new Neo-Taino paradigm, but it would inevitably be a Latin American modern cultural phenomenon, comparable to the Wiccan revival.
saadaya 2 years ago

That is your right.

try to make this crap fly among intelligent people. since when did tainos dress up like ghetto thugs....reallypathetic
you are the reason Islanders are embarrassed as hell by the nuyoricans --- they sold out and became fake tainos and fake negros...really sad.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
and it's sad that you are denying your heritage. these are your ancestors. this may have happens years ago, but their blood runs through your veins, the same blood that was spilled to make America what it is today, a selfish and uncultured country, whether you like it or not....so sad.

wow, i had no idea you had done genealogies on all 8 MILLION Puerto Ricans living both on & off the island.
Oh!!!

Happy pow-wows to you.

and what Taino tribe wore wool masks over their faces in the tropical heat?
PLEASE don't answer, I'm afraid of what stupidity you will post here as a response. Really pathetic.

Puerto ricans are the natives of that land, but just like many other natives and people of color, THEY ARE NOW AN OPPRESSED AND BLIND PEOPLE
DONT BE MAD, JUST READ DEEPER BETWEEN THE LINES
arab3515 1 year ago
@arab3515...you write"Puerto Ricans"are the naives of that land" 1st of all, the indigenous people WERE NOT "Puerto Ricans". They were Tainos. So what? And the Mohawks and Iroquois are the "natives" of New York. So what? They are gone from Wall St.., 5th Ave. & Central Park. So what. History is filled with the stories of peoples who where dominated by others. Does that mean that the conquerors should go away and we all go back to our caves and rub sticks together to make fire?YOU need to read!
bayamonkey 1 year ago

To say "Most Puerto Ricans Are Taino Natives"is pretty iirresponsible even in the delusional world of cyberspace.I am from Puerto Rico & that statement is a very FAR stretch from the truth,no matter how many fake suede Navajo loin cloths they wear in the portorican day parade in duh Bronx. just because you want this to be so, doesn't make it so,but sadly there are plenty of idiots in the world that will just go home & stick a peacock feather up their ass & are now Tainos...So sad
portacoelhi 3 years ago 5
so sad that you don't let people be who they wanna be and let them express themselves how they want, but I guess puerto ricans prancing around in tights with a red cloth while fighting a bull don't make them spaniards either, my people calls that wayramushpa, best translation to that is ya'll don't know where the hell you come from therefore you have no culture.
fragolegirl2002 2 years ago
porta, i also live in PR and let me tell you this video is one pile of ignorant acomplejado brainwash.
