  • Lighten up people. I never seen Devil Town a serious song even when Daniel Johnston performs. Glen has performed on stage with Daniel Johnston and it would seem that he admires him as an artist. Check out the youtube video titled: Swell season + Daniel Johnston - Life in vain - HD-ACL

  • fuck this guy.. this is not supposed to be funny..

  • god dammit this is disgusting. he covered two daniel johston songs and fucked them up. this isnt funny. daniel was not laughing when he wrote these. this is somebody true emotions about how fucked up their life was and these people are make fun of it. if youre going to cover it cover it like it was made with emotion and not a fucking sing along.

  • @TheEpicWeezl second that. fuck this guy

  • @TheEpicWeezl @Kviele and other so called fans, please get your fricking heads out of your asses. You should realize that when Daniel Johnston himself toured parts of Europe a few years ago that he regularly played Devil Town as a FUN sing along song with the crowd. If the man that wrote the song can have jovial fun with it I think you all should shut up with your misinformed opinions. Watch ACL if you want proof of the mutual respect that clearly exists between Daniel and Glen Hansard.

  • @STANCLAUSE how about you show me a video of him singing devil town in a joking sing along manner and i'll believe you, but for now i'm going to continue to believe that a man who lived his life in pain and suffered through many bouts of schizophrenia would not want his songs that expressed his emotions made into something that is laughed at. I'm not syaing there isnt respect between them everyone should respect daniel this is just the wrong way to play daniels song.

  • @TheEpicWeezl To quote you previously "if youre going to cover it cover it like it was made with emotion and not a fucking sing along." Now here's Daniel himself with a smile on his face saying to the audience 'heres a sing-along for ya so please sing-along' with this upbeat version you're clearly not accustomed to. youtube.com/watch?v=lxu7esJ9FsA

The song is meant to uplift and that sentiment comes from the man who wrote it. Lighten up - Daniel does.

  • Also an upbeat sing-along version exists in the documentary 'The Devil and Daniel Johnston'. And to be perfectly clear, The Swell Season were teaching the audience the song as they sang it, bringing it to the attention of the many who previously didn't know the song. The audience laughed because they were having fun, not making fun - there's a difference. I would think seeing a Daniel Johnston song newly discovered by so many in the audience would be a joyful occurrence for any DJ fan.

  • la canción no tiene nada de gracioso...

  • I thought I'd lost all respect for Glen Hansard after the infamous 'busking with Bono' incident but this has taken an altogether new biscuit. Christ this is really bad, why on earth would you choose to cover a Danny song and turn it into a funny sing a long. If I was there I think I may have thrown a few things.

  • @officercruddle

It's always heartbreaking to see dead serious disciples whine about their idol doing something they disapprove of

  • Not meant to be a funny song, the laughing is so annoying.

  • ugh hansard

  • Ah. I saw them do this live. Amazing! Was like the funniest song of the night! :D

  • Not a bad cover, but this is sort of jaunty, while the original was so haunting.

  • So cute...
