This album always reminds me now of winter. Although I bought my first copy on CD in June of 2007, it wasn't until I bought the remix in December of 2009 that the album hit home with me and fit the mood of the colder than normal winter in Florida for 2009/2010. Seeing I have Autism/Aspergers this song hit home with me. When I did go back to Mass everything was changed from when I left for South Cackalacka then Florida.
@tjrtherocksponge You are right. I agree. I only can't imagine what of these songs if Collins didn't have some troubles in 1978-79. Maybe these were in the album the Genesis never made in 1979..
It's sad that Banks never receive the right success for his lovely compositions...
I love tony. He sould have passed all the days of his life to write pieces like this. It's a shame that he didn't put many (never enough) pearls for us during all the time after '97...
Can anyone post me comments, pics or info on Kim Beacon, please? I am gathering memorabilia for my nephew's 18th Birthday this year (Kim's son). Thanks!
@ROLT01 The shame would be someone, hearing this for the 1st time, would think that it was *supposed* to sound this way.
My LP somehow 'self destructed', became all but unplayable about a decade ago. Finally got the remastered cd. Appreciate it even more than before. But the last 2 or 3 songs are so very sad to me now. They remind me of my father's slow decline from Alzheimer's. Reminds me of how you can 'understand' something, but not really understand at all. Spirit levels, depths, heights.
This is not phaser, its a flanger, some of those genesis tracks of the period 79-82 (duke/3 sides live studio songs like "evidence of autumm etc) sounds with a little flanger on the final mix. Maybe the 5.1 mix on "for a while" enhace the effect on the final mix, if you hear the original vinyl or the cd, it sounds as the same as duke "kind of mix".
A friend copied me a cassette 30 years ago which he called "Steve Hackett and friends", it was my numero uno, and found out recentely that a lot of it was Tony Banks,in last month I"ve bought the album "Curious Feeling", to find that the vocals tha I"ve loved for years are Kim Beacon, then, this evening I find he"s dead
Much of his work would be my "Desert island Disc", to those who knew him well, thanks, and au revoir, and Tony Banks,in particular
Fantastic video and beautiful song, sadly the sound seems to have some technical problem. Thank you Tony, I love your compositions, and Kim was a great singer!!
I like this song very much also, it makes me feel good! The audio have some phaser maybe because in this edition of the album, the audio is in 5.1 mix. Tony Banks have a huge talent working with harmonies, he is an amazing composer!
I had no idea he had passed away till yesterday. It was the saddest day of my life. I really can't believe it.... I think this song is very premonitory... it's like he is singing this song to his own death... so so terrible and sad. What a way of finishing this 2009. Rest In Peace, dear Kim Beacon. I will never forget you. You will live in my memory for ever and I'll be extremely grateful for such a wonderful voice and inspiration. I love you.
Great clip. Great song. Especially when played during the fall and winter. Sad what happened to Kim Beacon. Tony Banks dedicated the A Curious Feeling reissue to his memory. This and The Fugitive are Tony's two best solo albums IMHO!
Isn't A CURIOUS FEELING tru gem in the Genesis discography !

First is always the best! So true.
Tony's first solo album ist still the best for me.
His early work plus Kim's great voice just fit excellent together.
So sad that "Curious Feeling" did not get the success it deserved.
Even more sad that Tony did not continue working with Kim.
When he finally considered (remastering the album) it was too late...

Kim Beacon was a fantastic vocalist on some of the tracks on Tonys best album he sounds a bit like Cliff. What other stuff has he done?

Great video, but I want to slap the producer for putting so much phaser on the song.
jhillst 1 year ago 6
@jhillst I think the phaser effect is so strong because of the 5.1 audio transfer for this track.

Tony sure liked that W & W Tour jacket. He was also wearing it while performing Turn It on Again on Totp's in 1980.
