One Piece Discussion 2: Zoro vs. Zolo

Since we're on the whole different name thing with zoro zolo and rufi and luffy, might as well add another one with ace and trace. I personally don't like the zolo and trace, but its whatever.

The way I see it, the people who flame bout the different names like its the biggest deal in the world are really insecure and are flaming in this way to hide them flaming in a different way xD

@gogetareeljob: What I found didn't make sense was the reason that 4Kids changed Ace to Trace. Ace is the name of an alcoholic drink. Did you know that? If not, I didn't know that either before I found out.

First off, I think the whole "getting sued for using Zoro" thing is a myth. Many American versions of OP have used Zoro and there has been no problem.

As for "Luffy" being the Americanized version of the character's name and "Rufi" being the Japanese version, no that's not true. Look at Luffy's wanted poster in the manga. Rufi is simply how the Japanese pronounce his name simply because, if I'm not mistaken, there is no "L" sound in the Japanese language. It's always been "Luffy"

Okay, first of all, I know about the Luffy thing. I was thinking like a 4Kids user and came up with an unlikely reason. Second of all, I heard from another user video about why 4Kids said Zolo instead of Zoro.

I personally loved the 4Kids rap. Zoro's voice was pretty good and so was Nami's. The other voices were voices that I didn't like. Thanks for commenting!

well i cant answer for the question about Sanji's strenght but he rules so it doesnt matter.

Im a big fan of One Piece (best anime ever) and i read the manga as well as watching the anime.

Ii spanish and japanese Luffy's name is luffy, i thinkis in portuguese that it is ruffy

Well besides the fact that 4Kids Americanizes anime, the company was going to get sued for using the name Zoro since the name Zorro (which sounds the same) was already being used by another show.

In the manga he IS called Zolo. I got volume 21 and it says it.

Yes, I do know that Zoro was called Zolo in the manga. I don't know why people freaked out when the name Zolo was used in the anime, but they did not freak out when the name Zolo was used in the manga.

The Viz version of the manga? They started out calling him "Zoro" initially, but switched to "Zolo" when the anime aired in USA (this was before the existence of the Funimation version). The character's name is Zoro. Zolo's not a bad name or anything, it's just not the character's name.

Wanting the character's actual name to be used isn't being a weaboo (mind you, my fave version of the show is the Funi dub). It's not like demanding that the dubs have Luffy yell "Gomu Gomu no Pistoru".

i call him both names but i never understood why Zoro was the most used one. In the manga he is called Zolo.

First of all, thank you for commenting on one of my videos. Zoro's the most used one because in Japan, Zoro is the original name used and when Zoro was changed to Zolo, a lot of fans freaked out.

4Kids changed the name from Zoro to Zolo because if they didn't, they would have gotten sued for the people who created Zorro (Zoro does not equal Zolo people!) I don't remember why in the manga, they used both names.

I respect your thoughts on this. I switch between Zolo and Zoro all the time. I don't care either way, the guy is a great character. The only thing that bugged me about Zolo/Zoro was the people complaining which name was right and wrong -- that and lines he had in 4kids. Oh Lawd! lol. But anyway, thumbs up and even if the flamers don't read/listen, at least you know you have some people who understand and are on the same page as you. ^^
