I was once upon a time this man's Uke or "reciever" me and my friend have a great deal of respect for his immense knowledge of the martial arts, That being said we just like these students bought into this Ki energy stuff as well. It is power of suggestion we left because he would no longer teach the combative martial which he holds so much knowledge of. and if this is what he is teaching i am firmly postive i would destroy his current students in a full contact match.
The child taps himself not because the energy hurts him, the energy pushes his arm down which is just like pushing it down with the arm. The tapping is an indication to the Tori that he is in pain so the Tori knows to stop. Its sort of like tapping out in wrestling or in the MMA.
