  • thanks i learnt i bit... u may want to try positioning that big mirror behind you so we can see back at same time.... also mmore lighting would be helpful as it was quite hard to see the details of the front.... shining the light at the end really helped

  • @im1canadain This video was filmed over a year ago and the lighting at the time was all I really had available. Please check my current videos to see how things have progressed.

  • You look like Hayley from Paramore. Just sayin and love the video! :D

  • AWESOME! :D

  • Question... Would this work on long hair? I have hair that's a little past armpit length and I love this style soooo much but I'm afraid it won't work on my hair!

  • @asdlkfjasofi Yes you can do this on longer hair. Just be patient and practice...

  • i love the music used in this clip

  • who's the male singer? it sounds like Ewan McGregor...

  • @lizaphan89 It is. I believe it's from the 'Little Voice' soundtrack. :)

  • You are so friggin pretty lol *thumbs up* :D

  • What is the last song it is soooooooooooooo cute!!!!

  • Wow! That looked gorgeous. I've always admired people who can work hair like that. Really wish I knew how to as well.

  • How easy is this hairstyle to do on thick hair? I have a wedding to go to in a few weeks and this would be perfect to go with the 1950's dress i bought but i am not sure how long it would stay in my hair. Do you have any ideas?

  • @katiecupcake131 It will work beautifully. Pin smaller sections so that the bobby pins hold your hair better.

  • How would you make it a "refined option for formal occasions?" other than putting fancier combs in it? I'm thinking of using this hairstyle for a school dance. :)

  • @jvyl2007 I think it's pretty refined as it is. :) But you can structure the pin curls to appear more formal and less soft. Also, having someone else do it will add to a more formal appearance.

  • that looks really good, are u a professional?

  • @rungirl05 no, I'm self taught. :)

  • what color hair dye do you use? i<3 it

  • @H2TLILDANCER Please check my video called "Let Me Dye in Peace"...discusses my routine and products of choice.

  • I totally have natural 1940s curly hair and will try a similar look for the Marine Corps ball tomorrow! :) I remember being in this play in high school a decade ago! :)

  • Oh my god, that's Ewan McGregor?! I knew he could sing but not like that. I think I'm in love!!!

  • wow.. sooo good.

  • can I date you? you are beautiful

  • love it!

  • What kind of curlers are those? Are they Hot?? Thanks!

  • @giantsRtheShit Yes...hence the name...'hot sticks'. :) They are bendable hot rollers. You can get them online...

  • fantastic tutorial. :)

ps. what is the second song? it is hilarious :D

  • @cortezstreasure It's from the play Guys and Dolls...'Take Back Your Mink'.

  • oh my god. i hope i can find you when i get married... you do stunning work.

  • you looked like Haley Williams from Paramore in the beginning

  • OMG i got so excited when i realized that was ewan singing :)

  • Hi there! I love your tutorials -you're very talented and very inspirational! Where can I find plain, natural coloured hair combs without any embellishments on them? I live in Ontario, Canada and can't seem to find them anywhere.

  • @FuzzyNavel419 Thank you! Unfortunately, they are hard to find. They are Goody side combs...see if you can find them on ebay?

  • You look like Hayley Williams.

  • Just lovely

  • Thanks for the great how to video. I guess one could make more pony tails at the back if their hair is longer or heavier? I've tried doing this look but the weight of my hair pulls the bobby pins out if I move at all.

  • Are you sitting in front of a vanity? How does everyone have these vanitys? I never see those around anywhere.

  • @redenchilada yeah, I never see them either. THis is actually a dresser w/ a mirror on top of it. I don't have a true vanity set.

  • @redenchilada Look around at the antique shops in your area! I just bought a 1930s vanity from one in my area and I adore it. And a lot of times people will sell them on Craigslist for cheap without realizing how much they are undercutting themselves. Happy hunting! <3

  • Wonderfull!! Love your hair :)

  • i like your thinking face : )

  • I recognized Ewan's voice! I really enjoy your videos. I love these hair styles you do, but my hair is so thick and long. It takes so much time and effort to curl, then becomes overly voluminous when done :-(

  • did u stand up the pin curls at the end or where they flat i'm blind and couldnt tell

  • I just twisted the hair and pinned it flat and on top of the other twists. You can do it however you like...a very forgiving hairstyle.

  • i loved the way it came out i'm doing this for my friends debut thanks for the video! :)

  • This is so cute and looks easy. Thanx for posting it!

  • i did it but i didn't put it up i just pinned the hair to the sides but thanks anywaysi love it thanks!

  • do you brush out the curls after taking the rollers out?

  • See 2:23 :)

  • wow that is such a great variation of the "For the Bangs" style from Lauren Rennells book. thank you for the simplification

  • i mean for the boys!! lol

  • just styled my hair like that, i dont have hot rollers or the sticks so i just curled my entire head, and it came out so good, this is going to be my hair style for christmas, thanks for the help

  • You have beautiful style! Such a classy dame...

    <3 Chynna Doll

  • beautiful hair colour!!!! <<3

  • I love your tutorials!! I mean you have medum hair so IT works if our hair is a few inches shorter or a few longer!! Your great!! I have always looked for vintage styles that match my length [like yours] instead of the usual LONG hair! So thanks!!!! LOTS

  • Just thought I would tell you I wore this look for our Ladies Breakfast/Sunday School we have about once a month. I got TONS of compliments. I told veryone who said something to check your channel. :) Thanks for the look. Plan on doing others.

  • *pout* i miss your bathroom vids they had more light you room is nice but too dark i can't see all the beautiful details....

  • Interesting...almost everyone else says my bathroom lighting was less effective. I guess I have to go with the masses...:)

  • 5 stars for great hair, Ewan McGregor, and Guys and Dolls :)

  • that looks great girl!

  • Oh my god! I love this hair, it's so chic! I'm definately going to try this for work tomorrow!

And I love the second song on this video, could you please tell me what it's called and who it's by, it's amazing.. x

  • Its 'Take Back Your Mink' from Guys and Dolls...I believe there is an itunes link on the vid. :)

  • Ah yes...Irving Berlin..from Call me Madam..

  • The first song is 'You're just Inlove' by Ewan Mcgregor and Jane Horrocks. I think it's on the Little Voice soundtrack.

  • I am going to do this tomorrow for a wedding I'm going to. Thanks so much!

  • Oh!! I wish I had long hair again! This is SO pretty! <3 (Love the Ewen McG song too!! hehe)

  • Very nice tks!

  • tks?

  • She means 'thanks.'

  • Your haircolor is radiantly beautiful!

  • Gorgeous! Defo be trying this one-one question that applies to pretty much every style I've seen you do-what's the best tip for longevity? My hair always seems to 'droop' after a few hours and I'm always having to faff with it-what do you use to make the styles stay?

    xxx

  • The heat taming product helps quite alot with longevity but also remember to add lots of hairspray. Other than that, there really isnt any magic trick. This style is meant to withstand the elements though and shouldnt give you much trouble. :)

  • I watched your video this morning and decided to try it. In only about 30 minutes, I did it! - including curling time with a curling iron. Thank you so much! This is so easy for an elegant look!

  • It looks wonderful!

  • I actually did this look the night before I even knew about this video!! I used hot rollers and the style is simply lovely. It looks great with your red strands Ash!!

  • Thank you so much for doing this request. (I couldn't help chuckle about the sniffing part! We do a lot of walking about and sniffing here too in rural Nova Scotia, so this hairstyle will fit in well. heheh!) I've loved this look for a long time, and to see a tutorial of it, is VERY exciting! :) I can't wait to try it, but wait I must....I need to grow out the locks, first! Thanks again. xo

  • This is so so elegant and nice, you can wear it to a wedding even if you are the bride and add a touch of flowers or some decoration. Thank you very much for another great 5 stars tutorial!!!

  • This is so pretty! I definately will attempt this soon!

Question: do you think that with my thick curly hair, that a middy haircut would look and work well? Thanks!

    ~Lesley

  • Best to ask your stylist what he/ she thinks. :)

  • very simple yet elegant! great vid, ashley!!

  • The hot sticks remind me so much of when I was young and my mother would sock roll my hair :D

  • This was such a fun and easy hairstyle! I had day-old, pin-curled hair today and, after watching your video only once, I promptly threw together this look. I barely even used the mirror and it turned out beautifully! Just great! Now I know how I'm wearing my hair the next time I do curls. =)

Can't wait for your next vid, and I hope you and the family are feeling better!

  • Same thing! I had a bad hair day today (the weather is so humid those times, my hair looks dirty after half a day!) and I did this style in a hurry, without using the mirror. It turned out fantastic, thanks a lot! <3

Too bad that having nice hair was not enough to convince my client to sign an insurance policy! xD

  • Looks great! Are your little ones feeling better? :)

  • When I subscribed you only had a few hairstyle vids... I sub'd because your tutorials were easy to understand, you got right to the point... I had no idea that I was always going to be so pleased by your videos! Thank you for showing how to do such beautiful, classic and chic hairstyles. It makes doing my hair fun, & I am trying new things!

    BEAUTIFUL! LISA, Thank you!

P.S. The music is always fabulous too! I love Vintage!

It's nice to know, that vintage has never went out of style!

  • Perfect !!!

  • Wow. Could I be you? Or maybe just steal your talent ;) You are flawless!!

    *MUWHA*

  • Seriously? LOL You are crazy, gorgeous girl.

  • omg amazzzzzing!!

  • Thank you!

  • Love love the music and of course the style too!

    xox

  • I LOVE this video and am so glad to have discovered you! I have a couple of questions - what lip color are you wearing, and would you PLEASE share with beautiful red hair color you use? Thank you!

  • Thanks! This lipstick is Mary Kay Lipstick in Caramel. I think they still carry it. Also, I have posted several product reviews on hair color. Check back through my videos or my product review playlist. I use Loreal Preference and Manic Panic interchangably.

  • Awesome. Thank you so much, and I'll go check those out! :)

  • Great as always, and perfect for work! Love it!

  • I adore Ewan McGregor's singing voice! This is a gorgeous look

  • I do too. He is quite a talent.

  • OMG I love it!!! THANKS

  • Just lovely! Thank you! :)

  • Another great tutorial,

I enjoy whatching your video's every time:)

  • I love watching ur videos! Soooo goood!

  • Thank you so much! People like you are the reason I make them. ;-)

  • Perfect for work, and for disguising my 'day 3, and falling out of it's set' hair :)

How are you all, feeling better?

  • Yes, I think we are...don't want to speak too soon because I know we're proabably in for a relapse. But we are finally getting some energy again. Thanks for asking. :)

  • Aww Very lovely. :)

  • Good work Lisa!

  • I have always wanted to do this!! Thanks so much. Do you have the picture of the blond women on your blog? do you have a blog? I really love how the sides twist in the blonds hair. I will have to try this.

  • Yes, Chignons really are shown to their best advantage in blonde hair!

  • And yes...I have a blog. The address is on my home page. :) I'll post an entry dedicated to this style in a day or two. :)

  • I have a wedding coming up and this is perfect! Love it!! :)

  • For a wedding, I strongly suggest some floral hair combs instead of these plain ones. Small roses or cherry blossoms will still look lovely in winter.

  • Good idea! Thanks!

  • hot armpit :)

  • I am so happy when people say things like this...it is precisely the reason I post videos to youtube. :)

  • Love it! Have a concert tonight and had no idea what to do for my hair, Now I do! Thanks again!

  • wow, first viewing....hahaha Very nice. It isn't as easy to see in your hair because it is dark, but it is a lovely style. Very classy. Good movie as well. :)

  • Not easy to see my hair because it's dark? The lighting is okay though, right?

  • I found the lighting fine...it is jut that you cannot see the detail of the style because of your hair color. It is easier to see in blonde hair. The vid is good...have faith... :)

  • i have a party to go to soon, and i'm going to do this hair style.

Thank You for a really formal/casual look! =D
