  • If you're worried about tru bypassing the wah, I hope you have a tru bypass looper for that uber metal :P

  • i can do this with my 535q crybaby right?by the way i admire how clean your wah is...i need to work on that lol

  • this is only for a dunlop crybaby

  • thanks Dude! :)

  • ATTENTION!! IF U ONLY DO STEPS IN THIS VIDEO U WILL NOT HAVE TRUE BYPASS!! as stated in description there are more steps. i just succesfully put true bypass in gcb95f and to complete u must cut a connection in the circut board (PCB) or what i did take out the 6 buffer components. also have to add a ground wire to PCB next to input or ground to pedal. just trying to help. this video helped me out a lot cuz i never soldered but there is steps migging. i found em on the web pretty easy.

  • can i do this mod if i do the led ight mod that you posted???

    thanks

  • I thought you where giving us a tutorial and now that I've finished and read the comments and then seen your description I now realise you are the dungeon master with a riddle at the end!

why don't you just make a Wah Mods (Part 1.5): True Bypass? so us simpletons know what it is you're trying to explain in your description?

  • does this work on vox v845 model?

  • hi.can we do this mod on a CAE crybaby?

  • @EarlMendoza03 You shouldn't need to. It SHOULD be true bypass. Take the battery and adapter out and engage the pedal. If you still hear the signal its true bypass

  • Does this mod work on Vox v845 models? :)

  • Other tbp mods: stinkfoot.se/archives/546

  • The GREEN wire is the CLEAN INPUT from the jack socket. It runs through the pcb and wiring connect plug! The BLACK wire is the FX INPUT! It goes to the buffered input stage.

  • If you don't do the black wire directly from the circuit board to the dpdt switch (i.e.- the new input) does this leave the pedal ungrounded?

  • why would dunlop not make it true bypass?

  • Pretty cool man. What do you think about the Dimebag Darrell signature crybaby wah man. its good alot of new features u cant see in other crybaby pedals.please reply.

  • i bet many people haven't seen the description haven't cut the track and their pedal is still non true bypass!be careful guys!read the description!

  • Hey... I have a cuestion 4 you, it is about the wiring conection to add a led and to make true bypass. Do I have to make the wiring conection like you o like the page that you mention? (stink food or something like that) please I´ll be glad to see your answer soon. Bless YOu!

  • Hey man, I'm having trouble finding somewhere to purchase the parts I need for my wah pedal modifications. Any good websites or retailers that you would recommend?

  • hey great video!

My problem with the wha is that when i turn it on the volume boost is huge. i know thats what its supposed to be but can i somehow reduce the boost by a bit?

    thanks

  • Thanks for the Vid but a few things need reviewing.

    If I understand the Stinkfoot Mod instructions in your above link correctly then I think some of the extra information you have added is wrong. If we freeze the video at about 3:20 and number the poles from top left clockwise 1 to 6 then;

The green wire at pole 3 should go to pole 6

The Black jump-lead at Pole 1 should go to Pole 3

An Earth should go from the Earth (black wire) on Wah Pot to Pole 1

Please let me know if I`m off track.

  • Hey, thanks so much for your vids! I'm so stoked to mod up my wah, I do have a question, could you either make a seperate vid. or have a picture of the extra step described in the video description? When I read it I THINK I know what you mean, but seeing it would hepl me alot.

  • I dig that distortion pedal. is it an fz7?

  • same here the PCB is different in the REV i the C9 component is a polyester film capacitor (10nJ63)... will this mod of use to me and my Crybaby wah pedal ??? or do i have to solder the true bypass wire in a different place???

  • @Cappi666 My Wah PC Board don't have a resistor on that location where else do i put the black cable in another resistor?

  • How would you add this mod to a vox v845 wah?

  • how could you didnt know that you didn't changed anything with this mod, if the sound was the same??!!same tone? placebo-wah tone?

  • will this same thing work with vox pedals?

  • just did this mod, got a broken switched wah from a pawn shop for 25 bux and $5 for the switch, $30 dollar true bypass wah,,,,

    sweet

  • Type these into h t t p bar in your browser ...

    True-bypass mod:

stinkfoot [daht] se [forward slash] archives [forward slash] 546

    LED mod:

stinkfoot [daht] se [forward slash] archives [forward slash] 553

    One sourve for switch(es):

area51tubeaudiodesigns [daht] com and click for Online Store then, select switch(es) on left side.

  • This is all a big headache. What about using an ABY switch to just switch the wah on and off? You know, to isolate it from everything else? Everything else on my pedalboard is true bypass, so maybe there's a way to run the way and everything else. Or, switch to separate it? Does that even make sense?

  • I have a newer crybaby - Rev -I, does this tutorial apply?

    Thanks

  • Does it matter which type of wire we use to solder to the PCB?

  • hey man, where do you get all these supplies to do these mods? Where do i get fasel inductors?

  • Very good lesson, i'm going to do it even today. It's looking easy.

I was thinking to sale my crybaby for that not true bypass reason.

P.S. I see that you connect wah pedal after a distortion,

I suggest you to connect it before destortion , also before any other effects.

For me personaly is much better.

  • so you had the black clean input wire and the green fx wire in the wrong way and you have to swap them over then remove the board trace from the imput jack?

  • my dunlop wah has been acting up lately. when you hit it to turn it on, it acts like somethings sticking, keeping it sound in the heel down position (sometimes i can get it to go to toe down). afraid to take it apart, cause if its a minor thing i dont wanna wreck it. its a factory second from dunlop after the first one went to hell on me (took them like 4 or 5 months to even send me a new one, dont wanna send this one back to them). any ideas?

  • I'm installing my GCB-95 right into the body of my guitar and into the pick-ups

  • just watched this and you led mod video.Just want to know if these mods would work with the zakk wylde wah.

    thanks

  • Bad ass bro!

    Thanks for sharing this mod!

    Keep 'em coming.

You can also adjust the older pedals by skipping a few teeth on the gear so it engages sooner instead of having to drop it toe down and fall off the stage after a few drinks!

  • hey i have a question do you have to take out the buffer to do this

  • Hello Friend! Great video!!!! I have a question about the resistor that you let the plate (3:10). The top of the resistor that you soldered to the wire DPDT will be free or you put it back again by soldering on the board?

    regards

  • This was super helpful. I just completed my mod for true bypass with a 3PDT switch. I have a Whipple Halo inductor on order and the LED as well.

  • just finished my mod, swap the green and black wires as displayed in this vid so it should be black wire top left pole green wire centre left pole.

    cheers great video awesome mod

  • alright! i;m finished now and my wah no longer sucks tone. it doesen't sound very good, so i guess its time for a fasel!

  • Comment removed

  • i guess why THEY doesn't put true bypass switches when making them, true bypass switches are expensive compared to regular 3 pin but its worth it when you got 10 pedals between your guitar and your amp the tone start to suck hard. not the first time i see this problems in pedals and in DIY projects

  • @plpicher actually they also don't do true bypass because you have slightly louder click noise when turning the pedal on

  • i almost forgot that but there are other ways to remove that pop but it gets really complicated...

  • Great video. I did this mod, the Red Fasel mod, and the vocal mod. AWESOME!!!

  • Thank you for this great tutorial.Excellent Mod for the GCB-95. It took all of 5 minutes.

  • Hi, I'd like to do this mod on my GCB95. I understood the things you said in the video, but what do you mean in the description? Which wires do I have to switch? Sorry, but be patient, this is my first attempting at FX modding :)

  • Thanks for this video. I followed everything and it works even if my cybaby is a much older version than the rev g. It still has that green pcb. The next step would be the fasel inductors which is much easier than this mod. Thanks again.

  • can u plz explain how to do this dunlop crybaby 535q?

  • i have the 535 what is the "q" for sir?

  • the 535q is the latest junlop's crybaby wah

i guess q stands for multi-eq's since it has 5 siff wah eq's in it....

  • i followed all the way through until i read the info, it says to complete you need to switch the green and black wires. well didnt we just solder both those wires to the new switch so why didnt we put them in those places in the first place

  • can u explain how to do this with a cry baby 535 q?.. it would help alot

  • my pedal without any mods is hard as hell to turn on. I know its because of the stomp switch thing. So im wondering how to change the level of it without the mods.

  • There are screws that mount the switch to the body of the pedal. The lower the screws are down the shaft of the switch, the higher the switch will be under the contact of the moving pedal part; which should make it easier or far too easy to turn on (depending on how much you've adjusted it).

  • Are the screws attached to the pcb? And thanks so far im going to subscribe just because u helped me

  • @Cappi666

How can i do this with a 535q cry baby?

  • Comment removed

  • @Cappi666 You know, a socket on the input and output jack nuts will work a little better. It will also keep you from marring up the nut.

  • Apparently if you remove the 2 rubber stoppers that go either side of the switch it makes it easier to press

  • @withoutajem i've replace the small soft white circle under the upper part of the pedal by a harder piece (a round brown sticky circle that you put under furnitures to avoid scratches on the floor. it worked.

  • I don't understand what to do, to real true bypass, you said this is rong,we have to switch wires.. can you make a new video (don't need solder) just explain ?

  • It irritates me that Dunlop don't just do this anyway when making the pedals!

    Why is there no LED?!?

    It's a bit silly!

Thanks for the mod, worked great (even with my crap soldering skills!).

  • tried the mod. it worked great. thanks. i however left the buffer in and when i engage the wah it sounds just a little louder than the regular guitar signal. i may remove the buffer too. good how to stuff on the site. thanks for posting it.

  • Hi! Great video. But since i've made this mods, i have a problem : when I switch on and and switch off the pedal, the switch makes a noise ("ploc"). Is it because of a bad switch (it is brand new!)? Is it because it is a true bypass now?

    Thanks

  • Did you make the cut in the PCB; as in the description, which I forgot to add? If so, did you switch the 2 wires round on the switch as well?

Where did you get your switch from? And is it made my Carling?

  • awesome Tutorial dude.. man your soldering iron tip is F#%ked, but i guess it still got the job done. 5/5

  • my pedal is a jim dunlop cry baby wah gcb 95 and it has a Fasel.....

  • will this work for any wah pedal, i have a lyon from target...lol it was 60+ bucks...

  • You could have purchased a Crybaby on eBay for just a little bit more.......

  • i did exactly this and now my pedal makes a piezo buzzer sound.

its really weird and BAD sounding. advice?

  • nevermind i fixed it. im a tard :)

  • can you make a video teaching how to put a Q rang like the 535q? :)

  • This isn't actually a true bypass. Infact, I don't think you even did anything different than the original circuit. When you take "clean input" and solder it onto the pc board, you are taking the input from the guitar, but that input is still running parallel with the circuit. You need to romove the board trace from the input jack altogether. Then send the input directly to the DPDT switch. Then you send from the DPDT to that spot on the board for turning it on.

  • You're completely right, thanx for letting me know so I could research it a bit better. I'll leave a link in the description bit to a link showing everyone how to finish off the mod

  • I can't post a link here, but search "stinkfoot Dunlop GCB-95 wah pedal" in google. The first result describes it fairly well.

  • Just compare your pedal before the true bypass mod when the effect is off and then take out the effect out of the circuit/chain/FX loop and then compare it to your amp sound. Then do the mod and then do the same.

  • It makes a noticible effect on the sound when the pedal is off when compared to your normal amp sound without any effects in the loop. This is because you wouldn't be able to tell if it effected the sound from your amp sound when the wah is switched on, as a wah sweeps through frequencies.

  • does true bypass only effect the sound when the wah is turned off?

  • I want to do this to a vox V847-A. Are the The insides nearly the same? Enough that I could use this tutorial?

  • Is that Nigel Tufnel doing this video?

"And you can see, the switch still has the old bagger on it."

Hahaha. Just kidding. Good vid. I'm gonna do this to my crybaby.
