Seriously, making makizushi with a makisu is a lot faster than this plastic crap. Also, it doesn't bastardize the art of sushi created in the Japanese culture nearly as much. It also doesn't make your roll look like a dildo.
If this device sucks as you claim, then why are there so many videos here of people loving it? You clearly didn't do it right, or you simply prefer to use a bamboo mat. But don't put a product down to everybody just because you like a bamboo mat.
gee I dunno, perhaps because they're SELLING them? lol
You "clearly" don't know what you're talking about, because if you had used both the "sushezi" (lol) and a mat and "done it right" with each, you'd see a simple mat is far superior, faster, not to mention cheaper :)
I wasn't aware you lived in my home and watched me make sushi..lol. I have used both the mat and the sushezi, and while the mat is indeed easy, so is the sushezi. Not everyone can make good sushi with a mat, that's like saying everyone is a good cook, so this product serves a purpose. But of course in YOUR world we all have to agree with you, now don't we? If I like using this product, and my guests and I enjoy the final product, who the hell are you to tell me otherwise? Whatever.
@Nightbird well I wasn't aware you lived in mine either... ;) if you did I would bop you on the head with the middle rod thing in this sushezi and send you off to watch some youtube vids on rolling with a mat, take ya about 5 minutes to learn to do it reasonably well.
We don't have to agree, I merely stated my opinion and the reason why _I_ think it's a waste of money, ($36.95AU vs $1.00 is a no-brainer IMHO). >>>>
@Nightbird ctd: In this video it takes well over a minute to make a slab-like log of rice and filling, BEFORE they even start to roll it up in the nori ... and that's not including all the screw-ups they edited out. LOL.
Anyway each to their own.. some people have money to burn it seems. Hehe. If you would like and extra "sushezi" for your kitchen feel free to send me your address and I will gladly send it. Might even throw in a free jar of mayo to put in your "sushi" too. lol.
It's about time something like this device comes out, because everybody knows sushi is overpriced, and sushi chefs act like they are Gods and over charge on everything. It shouldn't cost me $50.00 to eat out and leave feeling full, for just rice and fish!
Do you know how expensive it is to buy quality fresh fish so fresh you can eat it raw? Do you know how expensive it is to ship it across the country? Do you understand the art and skill behind making sushi? Sushi chefs undergo years of training to be able to provide their art to people and then people like you call them arrogant? Besides, sushi isn't expensive. It just wasn't designed in the Japanese culture to be fed to Westerners with their over sized stomachs.
someone gave me one of these as a gift and it sucks. Used it a couple of times and it got thrown at the back of the cupboard. It makes huge fat rolls and it's difficult to get the nori on nice and tight.. With a bamboo mat it is easier and faster to make nice, neat, tight rolls. Waste of $30 when a $2 bamboo mat works far better
Yeah, why don't you get a Lekue silicone sushi mat, instead of either the sushezi or the bamboo mat. You don't have to buy plastic wrap and it's non-stick. I have one. :-)
