  • abouth that political crap you talk about. he just wants to set people to think about it.

  • I didn't know that there was a live version of this great song! I think the only good from "Cut the Crap"

  • This is dedicated to uhh yeah

  • Where can I find that program? Is that an interview or something?

  • This is like The Clash circa 1977 without any one the charm... Sad, but inevitable seeing as he no longer had the genius Mick Jones...

  • I just bought the Cut the Crap cd and I LOVE IT!! <3

  • Man, Joe was sexy...

  • the mohawk doesnt look good

  • @jsbret2729 are you blind???? these guys were our teachers back in the 70s so have some respect please x

  • @punkgirlcandy whoa im just sayin joe looked better without the mohawk but thats just my opinion, The Clash are still the greatest band of all time

  • @jsbret2729 phew! thought you were being mean about Joe for a second there.... x

  • All these arguments are exactly what Joe tried to get people to stop, to get off their high horse and do something for everyone, instead of themselves. It's ironic you're all talking about Left Right, or in the middle. Just sit back and listen to the greatest musician of our age.

  • 'inescapable' not 'inescapably'

  • ... the day he was a HUMAN BEING. And human's are infinitely fallible. So Joe Strummer was bound to make mistakes. To me, that just makes him all the more endearing. Without the 'Political Crap' there would have been no Clash. He just wrote what was in front of him. In future, make sure you have all the facts before writing such utter wank, 'Your Highness'. R.I.P Joe THE KING IS DEAD! LONG LIVE THE KING!

  • @AngryBritPunk1976

Be honest...Strummer used political angles...to try and sell records. He was every bit the Capitalist...that he tried so hard not to be. And I don't hold it against him. BUT for him...to support all these ridiculous Mexican/African causes...was tragic. Instead of writing songs about their struggle...He should have wrote songs about holding them accountable. Disease.Crime.Welfare.Famine.etc. Why do u refuse to hold Africans accountable?

  • Joe Strummer never ONCE claimed to have all the answers. They were simply his opions. Brought up by a diplomat father of left-wing persuasion, Ronald Mellor, politics was ALWAYS going to be an inescapably aspect of the man's life. At the time, it was either that or join the NF, who were taking Britain NOWHERE. His brother David, joined the NF shortly before commiting suicide, and it is widely believed that this, amongst other things, led to Joe's vehement hatred of the Right. At the end of...

  • @spankyelmojr 'Good Sir', are you familiar with the term 'arsehole?'. Please crawl out of your own arsehole, 'Africans are most closely related to apes' are they?. Racist prick. Your self-appointed 'Royalty' status only underlies your lack of brain cells and a deep-seeded insecurity. Joe Strummer never claimed to fight ANY man's battle, his coda was always 'Sort it out for yourself'.

@Nightvision444 Yeah, he'd had his teeth restructured courtesy of a band called Red Roosters by this point.

  • pretty prophetic song if you ask me.

"patriots of the wasteland torching two hundred years". sounds like the tea party.

"bring back crucifixion"- sounds like some bible belt idea.

"slaves in asia". well, we all know about outsourcing.

seems like yesterdays problems and today's problems are one and the same

  • Cut the chat...We dont care about whos more retard, we are here to listen to the clash

  • i love when Joe is makin his opinion clear and hes gettin little mad ;D great man, RIP <3

  • Album best song

  • Where's audio from?

  • Fantastic!

  • Look at the video at 1:51-1:54...it Speaks Volumes...

I suspect that Joe was ranting about some obscure political cause...and I can tell that Paul, isn't quite on board.

Joe was a Legend. But...I never quite bought into all this political crap. You can't fight another man's battle...and if you do, you are a Fool. I admire Joe...the Musician...The Political crap, Reeks of Insincereity. He was a great musician...Nothing More...Nothing Less.

  • @spankyelmojr Wow. You are so wrong about this....

  • @strummeresque

Good Sir...I do not care much for your tone. You are in the presence of Royalty...please try and conduct yourself as a gentleman...LMFAO.

What exactly am I "wrong" about??? Strummer used political angles...to try and seem more relevant. And in the process...he tarnished the Clash Legacy. Sandinista is proof of this. That "album" reeked of Mexican-African filthy jungle music...LMFAO.

    Good Day to you Sir,

SirSpankElmoJr (aka King of The Illuminati...LMFAO)

  • @spankyelmojr Whether you agree or not with Joe's politics is one thing. What you CANNOT say is that he was insincere. Just because YOU don't care about the plight of other human beings doesn't mean nobody does.

  • @SuperDsweeney

Strummer used political angles..to try and seem more relevant. In essence...he would "support" these filthy Mexican African "causes"...to sell records. If these "causes" meant so much to him...he should fight for them, physically.

I enjoy music. But at the end of the day...IT IS JUST MUSIC. It cannot change the world. I find it odd...when people romanticize music's influence. It ain't nothing but a song & dance..All of it..especially the Mexican/African Jungle Music. LOL

  • @spankyelmojr Rock music is based on African-American rhythms and the blues, you dumb ignorant fuck. Live aid and LIve 8 concerts changed peoples lives. They are alive today because of them. Music can't change the world but it can change the world for individuals. Joe was an artist and felt he had to write about injusitces in the world. Like Marley, like Lennon, like Dylan, like Woody Guthrie, Marvin Gaye. You stick to your " moon in june " bollocks ok ? You listen to Jedward if you like.

  • @SuperDsweeney

What? LOL. I think u are overstating the influence of African Jungle Music. I realize that Africans have contributed next to nothing..to the Greater Good. So, perhaps that is why Africans find so much self worth in meaningless Jungle Music.

Live 8? LOL. Why do u honor Africans with songs and pity? Why do u honor them...for being a burden, on a Global Scale? Diseas.Famine.Welfare.Crime.etc. It is like honoring the homeless, for being homeless. Africans should be held accountable

  • @spankyelmojr What a little spoilt wanker like you doesn't seem to realise is that we all originally came from Africa. While there are corrupt regimes in Africa, most of the problems were caused by European powers such as the French, Belgians, Dutch and especially the British. Africans were forcibly taken from their homes and shipped all over the world as fuckin' slaves by your ancestors, you ugly self important ignorant cunt. Just shut your fuckin' mouth ok, you've embarrassed yourself enough.

  • @SuperDsweeney

Yes...I hear that "argument" often. About how africans were "here first"...or whatever. WHO CARES?!? If I was an african...I would hesitate to use the "here first argument." It has been shown that humans evolved from monkeys/apes. So, if africans were "here first"...than they are closer to the monkey race. LMFAO.

And, yes, I realize that africans have been "exploited"...but honestly, do you think their existence would be any less dire...had they not been exploited???

  • @spankyelmojr You miss the point. It's not that "they were here first " but that we ALL originated from Africa. Now pull your trousers up, get up off your fucking arse, do some fucking thing and go read a book or go outside. It's nice.

  • @SuperDsweeney

Yes...I agree with u...africans were on earth first. And before africans...we were monkeys/apes. We "originated" from both monkeys/apes and africans. But, fortunately, we have EVOLVED to a higher species. Wouldn't u agree???

And if weren't for slavery/apartheid...africans would have never been exposed to the Civilized World. In a tragically ironic way...slavery/apartheid is the best thing to ever happen to africans. That is how dire their existence is.

  • @spankyelmojr Before Homo Sapiens in Africa we were NOT apes. We evolved from a common ancestor as apes, some other humanoid form from which we both evolved. YOU have certainly not evolved into a higher species and the current president of the USA , the most powerful man in the world wouldn't think so either.

  • @SuperDsweeney

Yes...africans were on earth first. And therefore...africans are closer to the monkey race.

I think u are overstating the importance of the Presidency. Barry Hussein Obama is a puppet...as was Bush and Clinton before him. Bush was crucified for escalating the war, and for the National Defecit. Obama has increased the National Debt ceiling...and he has NOT ended the war, like he promised. In fact, he has increased the number of troops in battle.

  • @spankyelmojr Obama is a puppet of who exactly ? He is trying to clear up the mess that Texan retard made. It won't be easy. How old are you ? You sound about 9 . Bush didn't escalate the war, he started it by illegally invading Iraq and causing the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians, which I'm sure you don't regard as people anyway, so whatever. If a black man saved your life would you still think they are inferior ? Try and answer honestly and like an adult ok ?

  • @SDs

Obama is a puppet. He does..what he is TOLD to do. Are u really so naive..to believe that he has any real power. Just yesterday..Obama had a town hall meeting..to address Wall Street. Instead of "cracking down on wall street"..he is backing down from wall street. Instead of "hope & change"..he appointed Timothy Geithner and Larry Summers? Obama is a puppet.

If an african "saved" my life? WTF. Well, if u praise someone for sumthing "good"..Why do u refuse to criticize "them"..for the bad?

  • @spankyelmojr Of course there are forces beyond his control, but he HAS power. Why do you think so many racist pig ignorant cunts like you want him out of there ? Under Obama, poor people will have better health care which up 'til now was the preserve of the rich. Americans like you should go out into the rest of the world for a change and learn about different people. And I don't mean invading them with your fascist military and then start crying when something like 9/11 happens.

  • @spankyelmojr The earliest traces of human kind have been found in Africa, so essentially we are ALL Afican. You, me, everybody. So you're talk of inferior races is moronic as we are ALL from the same origin. There are undoubtedly backward cultures in Afica but have you looked at some of your more southern, mountain folk lately ? Rabid Klan supporting hillbilly pig- fucking types ? Hardly the master race you purport Amerca to be. We are all brothers and sisters under the sun.

  • @SuperDsweeney

YES...I AGREE WITH U! Africans and Monkeys were on earth first...and we have EVOLVED from both, to a much higher species.

It doesn't really matter WHO is president. I guess it's just a matter of "luck"...as to WHEN you are president. Obama is a puppet. If Obama had been president during the Bush years...nothing would have been different. But, somehow, I suspect that you would be praising Obama for the War...and for handling 9/11. And Obama's healthcare...is nothing to proud of

  • @spankyelmojr Obama would not have illegally invaded Iraq to secure their oil reserves for when it runs out in a few years.Iraq had nothing whatsoever to do with 9/11, only stupid Americans believed that. As for healthcare, I take it you are a spoilt white middle class cunt whose mom and dad will take care of him when you get sick. Nice for you. Youre a self absorbed cunt so it's impossible for you, but try and put yourself in other people's shoes for a change. And yes, I know you don't care!!

  • @spankyelmojr Maybe YOU evolved from monkeys but nobody else did. It's an incredibly difficult concept for you to understand isn't it ? OURSELVES AND APES HAD A COMMON ANCESTOR, called the "missing link". You might say us and apes had a common parent.

  • @SD

Good Sir..I do not care much for your tone. You are in presence of Royalty..Please try and conduct yourself as a gentleman.LOL.

YES..apes/monkeys/africans/missing link..theres not much difference between them.Thankfully..we have evolved to a higher species. Africans are closer to the missing link/monkey race...LOL.

You idiot..do u really think it matters..who the President is? Are u familar with Plato's Cave? Well, crawl out of the cave..and stop looking at the shadows on the wall.

  • @spankyelmojr I think it matters to a lot to people's daily lives, you ignorant cunt, yes I do. Obviously all governments are bound by big business / corporate entites etc but IT DOES make a difference who's in office. You never address anything I put to you, just the same boring unfunny ape/ common ancestor/ monkey joke. You think you're amazingly intelligent and smarter than everybody else don't you ? Smart arse geeks like you drive me mad, emotionless, no compassion spoilt little brats.

  • @spankyelmojr You've bored me to tears now douchebag so I'm off. You should try and learn a little bit more about real people and not quote everything from books, admirable though that is.Some day in your life you will need somebody' s help. Try to conceal the contempt you hold them in won't you ? I tried... I tried.

  • @SuperDsweeney

I can see that u are still stuck in Plato's Cave. I hope that one day..you will find the strength to crawl out of the Cave..and face the TRUTH. No matter how harsh it may be. Do u REALLY believe that we are all "equal"??? If u do..then you are a fool. The concept of Equality..Is very similar to the concept of Religion..they are both for the WEAK. And it comes as no surprise that africans..use both as a crutch.

    Good Day to you Sir,

SpankyElmoJr (aka King of the Illuminati)

  • @spankyelmojr yeah, i looked at the actual video of the interview on french tv that this video is set to. the problem with this video is that it cuts up different parts of the interview and sets it in a different order. in the real video, paul laughs after joe puts a watch in his mouth, okay? strummer wasnt talking about politics at all at that point, he was using the chewing of the watch as a metaphor for breaking the barriers in punk rock again.

  • @spankyelmojr so please, please, PLEASE !!! next time u go on a whole rant about anything-be it politics, the clash, or punk rock- please, check ur facts.

(p.s. btw r u a republican? if so, it is fitting that u make mistakes like this)

  • @krmln321

Yes...I would consider myself a future Republican.

My initial point...was that Joe was ranting about something. You say that he was ranting about "barriers in punk rock." Ok...with that said...is it really necessary for a grown man to "chew on a watch"??? Whether it be politics...or some other "cause"...I can tell that Paul isnt quite on board. Let us not pretend that music is a noble endeavor. It cannot change the world. And I suspect that Joe...could not see that reality.

  • @spankyelmojr nah, Joe was trying to quote "throw humanity back in the ring" that's what his music was about and even better he had fun doin it

  • @spankyelmojr nah, Joe was trying to quote "throw humanity back in the ring" and better yet he had fun doin it with his music.

  • @spankyelmojr FUCK YOU! HOW DARE YOU SPEAK OF JOE LIKE THAT & CALL YOURSELF A FAN...INSINCEREITY? YOU NOW WHATS INSINCERE? FUCKING ASSHOLES LIKE YOU THAT THINK YOU KNOW SO FUCKING MUCH BUT DONT GIVE A SHIT ABOUT THE WORLD, THATS ALL NOT ONLY JOE BUT THE CLASH EVER SAID.KNEW THEY WERENT GOING TO SAVE THE WORLD BUT THEY THEY COULD TRY TO OPEN PEOPLES EYES TO MAKE IT BETTER...INSINCERE? PLAYING A REUNION WITH MICKJONES FOR A BENEFIT FOR FIREFIGHTERS & NOT GET PAID? HE WAS A HERO IN AN AGE OF NONE!!

  • One of the bright spots on their last album.

  • Joe Strummer was handsome.

  • @Nightvision444 he used to not be cute to me cause he was 9 yrs older. now he looks like thecutest PR Boi.

  • @asidqwien what? if your 42 and hes 59 hes 17 years not 9 what year were you born?

  • alvaro españa (chile, fiskales ad-hok) = plagio de joe strumer ...

    jajaja

  • Where the hell is this interview from and how can I get a copy?

  • All in all "Cut the Crap" is mediocre and sub-par. The record just sounds like one half of the Clash going back in the garage to fix the bullshit detector and ultimately choking on the CO. I remember listening to this record with my friends in high school in late 1998 (all of us major Clash fans then and to this day) and thinking "What happened?".

Ah well... The rest of their catalog rules.

  • Check out Vince White book about the end of The Clash. I just read it. Great!

  • I bought it the day it was released in 1988. There are some good tunes on it, but I could not get over the trauma of them breaking up like that, and at the time, not knowing the actual reason.

  • 1988? dont u mean 1985?

  • You're right

  • they broke up because they thought they'd sold out and fired mick under bernie's command :( although joe later regretted it.

  • I learned that Bernie Rhodes is no joke. This guy really didn't like Mick Jones. I can't believe what an idiot he is. I don't know why he would do that. He's completely blind.

  • Bernie hated Mick and Topper...I think he just could stand Joe and Paul.

  • Bernie hated Mick because he couldn't get him under his influence as he did with Joe and Paul. That's really FUCKING STRANGE to think about it. Mick and Paul knew of each other and were in in pre-Clash bands way before they met Woody aka Joe. And Paul sides with Joe in the end. Bernie, that fucking egomaniacal bastard, he had a good thing but I suppose if one were in the eye of the storm you can't see it there's a different view point. Either way, I don't like Bernie at all.

  • he hated TOPPER too?? didn't he call him a provincial tosser? why on earth did the CLASH get associated with this zombie?

  • bernie gave the clash the reason for what they doin,..but lost interest,....and argued with mick a lot....mainly over £

  • They didn't need him afterwards.

  • I think they were both big biscuits lovers and MICK would end up eating all the HOB-NOBs which also were Rhodes'favorites meanwhile Paul just painting away at Rehearsal rehearsal...Bernie got all his ideas from buying Les Nains Sales and occasionaly smoking GALULOSES which he'd mistaken for GITANES...the French ciggies made him high

  • i think it was reciprocical in famous music mag after joe's death he said he thought first time round when they met Joe was an idiot. Speaks volume..I dunno why Strummer praised him so much and brought him back in managing the band, I think he said Strummer was a C***...from a long line of great managers...Bernik Rod also known as McLaren's old pal though they don't share the same taylor

  • fucking manager's product this lp. Has 5 good songs , and this is one of them , but the rest is machine drummy punk songs...

Forced Mick 2 leave cause after Sandinista they thought they were all over musically...and everything emptied...

If they only knew that Sandinista would have become one of the most influential albums of the planet for so many other artists of today...

  • Good tune, probably my fave on CTC. Dictator is good too, but Bernie edited it so it sounds like a big mess, like there's 2 different songs playing. I saw them play this in Poughkeepsie in 1984, they were freakin loud.

  • Excellent. A bit of discussion on the LP that time forgot! Almost every retrospective account, documentary, compilation or magazine article stops at the leaving of old Skin'n'Bones as if 'Combat Rock was the last album....but after 3 years there was a single which didn't do too badly in the charts and the album. Yes, it's a bit basic and naive in places but it shouldn't be ignored surely?

  • Wouldn't it be great if a decent producer had a go at sorting out the mess of this album - maybe Mick Jones could complete this Clash album!

  • Comment removed

  • MITICI!

  • Mick is second God dudie budie... :)

  • Cut the Crap is actually my favorite album of theres. I didn't like it for a long time. But it grew on me after a while. All there albums a great. That one just has some really good songs done in a 80's pop style. It has a very one of a kind original sound.

  • Cut the Crap was the worst ever LP, cause as a group the mucisians are brand new, I mean the drummer and the guitarist... Strummer was so disappointed about how to finish the album. Only dirty punk was a so nice song. They had comin' in Athens, Greece this time... The concert was...HELL!!!

    Long Live The Clash!

  • I did not know that stuff about the change in musicians. But I still like "Cut The Crap" Maybe because it was the last album I discovered of theres and it grew on me over time slowly. I enjoy listening to it and I have not yet listened to the tracks a hundred times like I have the other albums. I could see why Joe Strummer didn't like it. But I do, very 80's pop sounding, different. Do you like Big Audio dynamite? I do.

  • i dunno why everyone hates on cut the crap? is it just cause mick and topper werent involved with it. even though they werent i still like the album. its not my favorite, but i still think its good.

  • Better than The Clash, London Calling or Sandinista?????? You are fucking joking.

  • Dont fall for that... The government is playing a three card trick on all of us!

  • its a gd song, and i no cut the crap is crap compared to the real clash albums, but cut the crap is alot better than some the shit albums out 2day!!! jus shows u how gd the clash were

  • If only the album version sounded this good instead of the overly drum machined and synth sounds.

  • i love this song, an underated clash gem

  • What is that jacket called with no arms on it (The one joe is wearing)

    PLS REPLY IN EMAIL

  • I think it's called a vest.

  • cut the crap was shite, but not the songs, the clash played em all in 1984, and trust me they were brilliant, i had a bootleg, and was at brixton in feb 84, totally different to the songs that came out on the album in 1985, badly produced album, live north and south was brilliant, dunno had to be there i guess

  • yeah I bet the songs were much better live

  • i like the bit at the beggining "this song is called the three card trick dedicated to umm yeah" lol god joe was just amazing R.I.P

  • underated album

  • I like the album Cut the Crap

  • This is England is one of my top ten Clash songs.

  • buen video, muy bueno

  • nice vid!

    who "cut the crap?"

  • What a great song done live. Cut The Crap file under V for vinyl ashtray.

  • "Cut The Crap" were does not made by original members of "The Clash". I think ... The CLASH is spirit and mind of working class hero , Name of Joe Strummer.

  • what interview is this... where can I see it?

  • cut the crap album was shite, however 9 songs were played in brixton in 1984, feb/march then the minors gig in december, when the album come out, was noting like the live versions

  • Yeah!!! RIGID300. The brightly of energy from their face.

  • Cut The Crap , why not? Does they hate reason of not the original members or music , songs? I think the album is cool ,also evorution sounds of Strummer's style.

  • everbody is down on cut the crap cos it doesnt have jones or headon, just strummer and simonon and 3 nobodys. the label says clash , but it aint.

  • lets face it joe was the best....

  • I like cut the crap

  • i like the recorded version better

  • Why does everyone hate on Cut The Crap? That album's the sh*t

  • The Clash rules!!!!

  • this is a great tributevideo. was it made for school or just for fun? i made one thats on here just click my name and click on joe strummer tribute video. let me know what you think.

  • i think cut the crap is good but i want to hear it without synths

  • its always been my dream to hear cut the crap with the crap cut out (without the synths)

  • The Clash 2 was a great live band, Cut the crap could have been a great album, fuck you Rhodes!! please, please, upload the the interview of this video.

Anybody else with clash 1984/85 video's??

  • Another first time seeing this but I did get Cut the Crap.

  • Thanks for this. Even at their worst (Cut the Crap) The Clash still rock harder than almost anyone.

  • Can you upload the interview that you used in the video please?

  • I agree with Subbaman...two great songs...for true Clash fans check out Robert Gruen rock fotos of strummer

  • God bless you, Joe!

  • i hardly consider anything off of cut the crap a clash song... but i agree with subbaman.... davidc have you ever heard of an album called give em enough rope, or perhaps london calling, or maybe the self titled? or possibly sandinista? or maybe combat rock? or maybe any of the b sides from 7" singles i.e. 1977? dude youve gotta check them out... and then get back to me if cut the crap was better than them

  • Three Card Trick and This is England are great songs, but the rest of the album is nowhere near the finest Clash songs.

  • three card trick, this is england AND north and south are great meaningful songs, otherwise its like the name

  • These songs from Cut the Crap are the finest Clash songs. It was just that the studio album was badly produced that is all.

  • A better alternative "Cut The Crap" is to assemble all the decent live recordings of the "Mohawk Madness" tour like the track for this particular video, which sounds a lot better than the album. Ditto for the "Give 'Em Enough Dope" bootleg, which contains the unrecorded classic "In The Pouring Rain".

    Thanks for posting this!

  • Nice work. I still can't believe he's gone..

  • Man what are they talking about cause what ever it is Joe really seems to be going at it. Wow wild
