@onthe1drop I know that!! I just said that I wished the films 2 leads collaborated instead, since they were both musicians and it would have been the perfect duet for this film :)
Simply one of the most incredible movies ever produced. Watching this movie is like entering a dream like state and you can not hit the pause button, you are "there" for the roller coaster ride of a life time. I have not seen another movie like it since. Kudos.
Hello dear fans like me of Sylvian & Sakamoto I invite you on my channel to listen my version of the Sakamoto "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence". give me your own opinion would be grateful.
@JazzTheGoblinQueen I know--and he just keeps getting better and better. It's crazy--I've been a weird sort of "in-love" with the man for 30 years now.
. Jamais vou esquecer deste carinho ... Vida
I have seen the movie for the first time recently, really a very great and moving film. Of course, Bowie was the reason why I have watched it... what should I say....
I have another question about the movie. Toward the beginning when Jack is being sentenced to a firing squad death, six men fire guns at him. After they fire Jack is obviously in pain- like the way he says, "That was a good one."- but you don't see any visible wounds...? At first I thought they missed him altogether and wondered how six trained men could miss but then I realized Jack was hurt but you just can't see where he was shot... Can anyone help clear this up for me?
@LadyBowie1119 The Japanese riflemen had blanks. It was a cruel joke played upon Jack. Very common practise in a lot of firing squad scenarios. Jack wasn't hurt, but the anticipation of being shot and killed creates an intense panic that most people would feel - and like a great soldier he can understand the bizarre joke- hence, "that's a good one."
Then why did Jack need to be treated in the camp? If he wasn't shot he wouldn't have needed to be in the infirmary. The doctor makes him sleep and Yonoi keeps saying, "Heal him quickly."
@LadyBowie1119 Because just prior to being strung up he was beaten very badly by the Commandant and the soldiers, remember? He was hit repeatedly by a stick! Watch the film. "Can you guess what I am thinking?" "I think so , can you?" Then WHACK WHACK WHACK - frign idiot just watch the film.
In Jack's flashbacks why does he get older, from the 12yr old to David playing Jack but Jack's brother stays a little kid? And is Jack's meeting with his brother in his mind as he's buried in sand supposed to be Jack making up with his brother because he knows he's going to die?
@LadyBowie1119 Splendid questions. Yes, Jack's remorse and guilt is allieviated when he is buried to his neck and "apologises" to his brother. It is his repentance to the betrayal he felt. Jack's brother doesn't appear older because that, one assumes, is how he remembers his brother. - nad, of course, for practical reasons - the boy sings beautifully.
I don't care if it spoils the ending of the movie as I haven't seen it yet (still trying to find it somewhere) but I have to know: Does David's character die?
He commits...I forget the name, but he kisses Sakamoto and is sentenced to death...yada yada. Gets buried in sand up to his head and is left there to die. Did you try all the links to the movie? It worked fine for me. Anyways hope you get to watch it!
Aww! That's sad. Yes, I did find it. A friend got it for me. I hate how he was beaten- I didn't like that. I REALLY dislike the ending- since he died... And how he didn't get to reconcile his problems with his brother... So sad. But a very good movie.
It's really sad, and glad you enjoyed it, it was pretty good. Now watch the Man Who Fell to Earth, it's sad too, but you should like it. That one is actually on youtube.
Haha. It's okay. I don't mind questions. Yes. It is. One person has parts 1 and 2 but then didn't finish but then someone else uploaded parts 3 to the end.
I've looked here on YouTube and can't find ANY part of it except the kiss scene. I guess that one is really famous or popular or something... Anyway, thank you for your help...
It didn't work.. I'm getting VERY frustrated... I can't find it to watch anywhere short of buying it from amazon and i can't buy the movie... i don't know what else to do...
The sadness never goes away it just buries itself somewhere deeper within my heart. So yes i need help i miss the love my dad gave i miss you and all i want to do is live near the memories .

@TheNewYork2LA The vocal version is a duet between Sakamoto and his frequent collaborator David Sylvian, another great baritone voice.
