  • SWEET

  • Them old two stroke detroits put a lot of food on the table for me growing up. Must be why I love em soo much. That and they sound soo nice.

  • Can I Buy That One? Please? Sounds So Nice!!!

  • with the right gears this truck would be hard for a street bike to catch

  • LOLS! Thats awesome!!!

  • OH ME LIKEY!!!!!!!

  • when a big rig sounds like a nascar race either something is very wrong, or very very awesome!

  • i would love to sit in that truck of yours again uncle nice to see this video is up

  • 3:46 to3:50 black smoke

  • i like the sound of this detroit 1271 i wish i had one in my boat

  • Good GOD...I think I just Jizzed in my knickers...AMAZING SOUND...

  • do two strokes have engine brakes???

  • they can

  • @DAF460 Yes. Jake brakes were available for the 53, 71, and 92 series.

  • @DAF460 most of them did after the engine brake came out on the 250 Cummins. They just had to pay Cummins so they wouldn't get sued for using their patent (Cummins patented the jake brake in the 60s)

  • What a beast of an engine

  • Think of it this way...12 cylinders x 71 cubes per = 852 with power on every turn of the crank from all 12. 2 turns of the crank gives you the benefit twice from all 12. 2 turns on a 4 stroke gives you but one punch of power each. Not hard to see how the power builds in so few cubic inches. they had their place and time. corporate bean counters killed them off....who knows what these motors would have become given today's tech

  • Detroit Diesel- Fuel+Air=Noise

  • wow the warm idle is amazing

  • Love the idle lope...

  • its crazy he probably was only turning about 2500rmps but cause its a 2 stroke it sounds like 7000rpms

  • @limitlessracer what is rmps? and rpms?

    RPM is Revolutions per minute.

RPMS is Revolutions per minute per second? o.o

  • Awesome sound!

  • The good ol' Canadian Rednecks can sure put on a show. The Southern U.S. definitely needs to watch and take lessons from this.

  • it was loping so much becaue one it could be a little cold and two he has so much fuel pumping into it

    \

  • Where do I find a website with the sound of that Big Red? Or move videos of it?

I cry every time I hear that sucker!

  • Wonder how many miles it could be heard for? I wouldn't be complaining :)

  • I have seen this truck pull a sled in Medicine Hat, Alberta before it retired and it was insane. They loaded the sled with all of the weights they could find and he could have pulled it to the North Pole.

  • lets see it pull something or is it just show no PULL ""

  • For what you are using it for wouldnt a 12v92 be more bennificial

  • nice sounding truck you got there

  • is that a 2 stroke?

  • yes that type of motor is a two stroke

  • Anybody know how many RPMs he's pulling here?

  • Its not under a load so its not going to overheat!

  • the sound of love

  • cammed much? Jesus christ

  • diesels can not lope...

its the injectors that do that..

    or some bodys foot...

  • Detroits have that characteristic lope at idle. They all do it. I think it has something to do with cylinder scavenging and it being a 2 stroke.

  • Old detroits can

  • The truck just started, it's the governer fly weights bouncing back and forth off the springs trying to stabilize because the engine is still cold.

  • very interesting, thanks!

  • yup good old detroit gallup, mostly effects the turbo ones

  • 2 stroke engines can and will idle

  • I'm no expert, but how does that not overheat it?

  • still has a cooling fan... and its a detroit they rather be hot then cool

  • Diesels run cold, it is very hard to get a diesel hot with a functioning cooling system.

  • sound,s sweet.

  • That sombich was pullin somethin ahy?

  • That sure sounds "The Business".

    Angry little thing!

  • why is it surging when at idle?

  • HUGE cam

  • most turbo detroits "Gallup" like this, its in the governor and fuel rack

  • no......

  • noooooooo

  • they adjusted the rack to make it surge

  • @1987chevroletcaprice most v12s just do that

  • its not used as a pull truck because it was slow to todays standerds and being a kenworth dual screw (hill machine) it dropped its back end

  • one mean machine, keeping Tundras hiding in their mommies skirt for a long time (or maybe the closet)

  • y is it not being used as a pull truck anylonger

  • me wike wombat soup in a bucket

  • was somebody gassing it at the begging or does the engine just naturally rev like that?

that ram air setup must be even more complex then old's w-30 versions from 66/67

  • thats the way those big v12 diesels idle. Especially one set up like that!

  • thats badass, are they hard to find?

  • Theyre around you just have to find the right diesel shops or online. Most are rebuilds or theyve been pulled out of other trucks. Just search 12v71 detroit on here. youll find a lot of cool videos

  • how much do they cost?

  • Depending on condition....and whether

    it's naturally aspirated.....single or twin

turboed, injector size (re: hp. output), mechanically governed or with DDEC

    ( electronics).....set up as "Automotive"

..Marine or Industrial application....you can spend anywhere from about $9,000. to about $30,000. and those are "Box Stock"...you can plan on spending another $10,000 plus..depending on how much hp you

want...2500 to 2800 HP is about the limit.

  • what do they normall make for power? 500 with turbos?

  • what the trucks ? check out my channel and look at my dads its pretty similar but wicked rare

  • Thats called "governor wander" or sometimes called "engine hunt"....it

happens when the " droop screw" has excessive clearance between IT and the

    lay shaft in the gov.

Of course, it can be also...set that way

    intentionally .....LOL.....just to make it

sound "badder" !! lol The wider the

setting.....the more that it will " hunt "...

But "you" don't want TOO much....because it can damage the gov.

  • music

  • theres a clip you can dowload off this website that has this engine warming up!

  • this is a BAD ASS! BIG RIG

  • I have seen that truck at the august blackout at castro race way in edmounton.

it is just amazing to hear that truck pull a sled. the owner also owns a puller tractor

that has the same motor. i hope he comes

the next time he's around edmounton

  • why insulting ??!?

  • he did mess up the spelling pritty bad

  • yeah, but theres no need to insult like this, its useless

  • my bad dude com down

  • Nice engine pre-heat !!!

  • That is the sweetest sound I've ever heard. Those 2-strikoes really could rev.

  • I keep thinking that any second that engine is going to explode. that thing is fucking HOWLING! nice one.

  • well Detroits do come apart frequently lol

  • WOW! this is an amazing video of detroit diesel power. My old man had a PAIR of these 12V71's in his Richardson boat, what a roar and a lot of speed. I love the sound of those screamin' jimmies! Thanks for sharing this vid.

  • Love how he starts out revving it up then gunning the shit out of it. Sweeeeet. Whos the guy talking to the driver? V-12 power!!!!

  • man thats one helluva truck! awesome motor

  • fuck yea kwhopper!!

  • i wouldnt be so sure o rev that thing that high with no load

  • It's built to rev high load or not...modified pulling truck..

  • yeah i know im just saying that i wouldnt rev it that high whaen its cold for frear for blowing a seal when the oil is thick

  • its most likely not cold he prob ideled it for a few mins!! plus he brought her up nice and slow on the rpm:P

  • yeah baby, rev that mother! this sounds beautiful, especially at about 3.51 just after he's clagged it.

  • yeah the sorta VRHHH LOL

  • Fuckin' Eh!

That's how we do things in Canada Yank-bee-atch!

  • What an insightful comment... You sir, are an idiot.

  • What, don't like it when someone plays on your shitty little level, Yank?

    Hypocrite.

  • and this coming from a man who's countries flag has a leaf on it.... showed them yanks lmao

  • danm straight bitch!

  • booya!

  • I guess they had to tie the camera to his hand or it would have bee sucked out of his palm and gone straight through the intake on that truck :)

  • lol to dodgeram91

  • dodge. hahahahahahahahahahahaha u go 1st

  • i dare one of u to stick ur hand in the intake tube.....there's a cookie in it for ya lol

  • I really dont know how anyone stood that close to that V12 at those revs, the noise must have been something else, but it's so sweet!

  • i am kinda clastraufobic (srry for my bad english) so i wouold never walk infront of the truck when parked behind the trailer when revving like that :S

affraid that he will accedently drive or my ears blow up :P or explode (i know that's not gonna happen but still).

  • nice sounding engine

  • they have to do that to get it running right

  • skoda, a cold diesel doesnt run for nothing. if you wanna perform, you need to let it run up

  • this thing will rev over 6,000 rpm and has injecters that were made for a locomotive.

  • maybe

  • notes:a- worst thing for a detroit is to idle sucks oil into air box b-surge at idle is called surge and purge cleans oil out of airbox not, governor issue. c-detroit 2 strokes all have blowers used for intake and exhaust piston uncovers port air forces exhaust out exhaust valves, valves close, air still pushed in untill piston covers port then compressed. detroits make no vacuum to draw air in hence the need for blower sorry bout lesson but, lot of wrong ideas about detroits...........

  • surge is a fuel rail issue... a detroit surging is actually partially running away and "catching" itself

  • Can it be fixed?

  • yep the fuel rack just needs to be readjusted, which is prety tricky if you dont know how its done ( i can kinda do it,but not the 100% proper way)

detroits like this that are modified almost always surge like that.

  • every turbo jimmy i have seen has a little governor gallup- seems that this is rigged to exceed its 2,200 limit and that may also cause the idle gallup

  • I want one. they sound amazing and from this vid, you look like they know how to handle an insane amount of abuse

  • detroit diesels are legendary for their performance and durability

  • and leaking oil

  • lol you know there is something wrong if it isnt leaking lol

  • but the good side is that it lubercates the underneath. :]

  • jeez thats beatin on that moter i wouldnt be suprised if it blew up after that

  • Well considering that those engines are built to work and work hard.. I would really say tahts beating on it.. Also looking at what they normally haul

  • psshh....the engine can handle it. thats hell on da transmission, drive shaft and rear ends!

  • who is the dude gunning the hell out of that beast! I wanna meet him! Awesome vid! V12 power!

  • a bird be history if it got suckedinto tehre

    hahahahaha

  • lol

  • they all idle like that. builds compression

  • why r u reving the piss out of it?

  • my god.. orgasmic. i'd probably have shit myself if i were standing there though.. holy hell.

  • a detroit is really the only engine you can crank the shit out of and not worry about blowing up and if you dont let your oil pressure come up before accelerating then you a dumbass

  • Holy crap that's crazy.

  • at our shop one of guys just built a 8v92 it screams pretty good but you cant beat the way 12v sounds

  • really? i had my hands on a 6V92T i was gonna go through and totally build up with my buddy. put it into a old F350 (with some supension work) and pull it/ run around town and pick up girls. lol deal fell through though

  • why's it got a spoiler? lol

  • Cause is gose FAST

  • oh i see!

  • Gose? What is gose?

IT's not there because it's fast, per se. Actually, those things are rather slow. They're designed to pull. It's just there because it looks cool :D

  • detroits are renowened for their ability to sart and run a full throttel right away. now mabye the 60 series isnt. this is exactly what my college instructor said and he worked for DD for 30 years from 1960-1990.

  • Thats exactly why they were put in so many firetrucks,,

  • What he should be more worried about is oil pressure... Screw the rings. If the oil is cold, and doesn't flow proper like it should it could cause the main bearings to spin. Detroits are rather notorious for spinning main bearings if the oil pressure isn't JUST right.

  • how is it hard on the rings if its only turning 25oo RPMS? its a 12 cylinder detroit. THats how they sound

  • more like 20

  • There went 10 gallons..

  • haha ten gallons . i stayed at this guys house the one weakend and he told us that when he is doing his pull he burns 100 leters and when he rips donw the highway he burns about 4 gallons per mile yes 4 gallons per mile

  • kenwhort woooooow

  • Don't you mean Kenworth????

  • no purpose for this at all.

  • Thats the reason to have one.. no purpose.. I want one too.

  • He has 2 warm-up his truck ding dong

  • That's awfull hard on the rings ding dong.

    Idle is the proper way.

  • yea u right, but if he wants 2 do it that way let him

  • I agree. Its his truck. I just think he was showing out a little. lol.

    see ya~

  • if i had 1 of them, i'd show out 2

  • I want one!!!!!!!

  • is that a warming up?? a bit crude..

  • jesus christ a 12 cylinder detriot i bet that soudns really godo inr eal life

  • The buzzin dozen..anybody else remember when these were on the road in daily use?

  • pull that cocksucker what u worried about

  • I seen this truck in real life that thing is loud when he was warming it up just what he is doing right now. also was able to watch the pull had both front tires come off the ground about a foot mabey good pull.

  • I have to leave yet another comment, If your computer does not have a good set of speakers with sub-woofer and a Sound blaster sound card, spend the $50 as this video rocks with a nice speaker setup. I second the gutsy people walking in front of that truck, id watch any long hair!

  • cant see shit

  • geeze a person could get sucked up by the turbo and everbody would file a missing persons report.. perfict murder

  • wow pure thrill what a sound love those detroits

  • what kind of RPMs is it pulling. i wouldnt want to walk in front of that personally, and that little girl didnt even flinch.

  • If I am not mistaken, that is a V12!

  • During the Gulf War I was the Chief Engineer on LCU 1661, Landing craft has TWO of these engines! One in each engine room. Just enough power to bring three M-60 tanks (two Ton Each) to the beach!

  • i've seen this thing pull.. anyone know if this is in Morris Manitoba? Bill Cole owns the big red express.

  • born too late fordgt, but welcome to the big leagues of power

  • god im just a 17 year old kid and i love that sound

  • I love that sound! The same engine is used as the STARTER MOTOR on a General Electric Frame 5 power plant gas turbine. It was rated 600hp. The 12V71TT started, idled for about 10 seconds, then went to wide open throttle taking the gas turbine to 20% speed for warmup and accleration. It drove thru torque converter with jaw clutch. No muffler!

  • Just pure sweet Power!

  • Two stroke diesel engines have valves and seperate intake systems and fuel injector. And have crankcase, oil filter and oil pump. Like the four stroke ones, intake system injects only air to pistons. Lubricant oil is supplied by a pump and there is a fuel injector on top. (Near the exhaust valves)

For further info : Search : "Diesel two stroke" on "howstuffworks" website

  • That was a note to pollution provokers. Btw: Engine sound is beatiful.

  • Beautiful

  • Gotta love the badass sound of that engine, would scare the crap out of me if it was rolling behind me on my bicycle!!

  • i come from holland and here their are no trucks left with detroit diesels only FTF did have them buttdon"t make em annymore. i have some video"s off em and will putt them on soon under FTFDetroit

  • how many horsepower you have???

  • because they burn oil bad, thats why there is blue smoke and oil mixed in with the fuel on 2 strokes

  • A Detroit Diesel (Like this one) 2 stroke does not use mixed oil and fuel like your weedwacker. They're pretty much the same as a regular diesel engine, except they don't have intake valves and the exhaust valve is at the bottom of the cylinder.

  • The exhaust valves r in the cylinder head, top of cylinder, the inlet ports r in the cylinder so the piston uncovers just before BDC, this is called a uniflow type.

  • Your right, no mixing of fuel. They have exhaust valves though, in the head.

  • Old School all the WAY ! Seen this guy on speed channel a few years back. No cat could touch him !
