@HCBailly and I can definitely tell you're in your element with your lp's now. Keep up the good work, HCBailly and I hope you LP for many years to come.
Ripping off Star Wars? Eh....not the accusation I'd make for FF7. I don't like the term "ripping off", personally, but it owes a LOT more to Akira than anything else. The motorcycle sequence, the number-tattooed superhuman attempts.....and, if you read the Akira manga....Tetsuo grows his hair long, and it turns white, and he starts wearing a big black cape. Not to mention the JENOVA/AKIRA capsule thing.
And that's 1982, folks--Tetsuo inspired Sephiroth. Deal.
FF 7 fanboys have such a narrow prspective. the turn base fights are boring and have no action in them. ff 7 looks like crap(even when it orginally realesed) cut scences are not the games graphics nor are the pre render background you cant even interact with that background cause its 2d. ff7s story and characters were compared to other games crap. so ff7 fanboys admit it, get, over it, that slap yourself 1 time for every ridiculous claim youve made about ff7 being 1 of the best games ever
I wish there was a side quest where you'd learn more about Avalanche members and how they got together to do what they did. I mean the original founder is never even named, and it has never been explained if Barret and the others were friends before Avalanche or did they just meet after being hired.
if you find where barret is when everyone finds a spot to hang out in the city, he says something about the founder of Avalanche learning something from the town.
Weren't the force and lifestream inspired both from eastern philosophy/religion or new ageism? So ff7 didn't rip off the force; the 2 just share the same source material? I don't know it's just a game so who really cares.
I just noticed this. In the solar system simulator aeris has no facial features except for eyes I guess they were too lazy to draw at least a nose and a mouth
yea I thought that too. The force, spirit energy, or whatever is a very universal concept shared by many human cultures. Lucas was inspired by Joseph Cambells work on mythologies and beliefs of the globe, so in some ways genreating a story, its hard not to touch on some of these concepts. I think Lucas gets too much credit for certain ideas for sure.
Hey, Bailey, i wanted to point something out. When you said that you didnt get how Avalanche was born there, it actually was cause if you do a little more exploration and socializing with your party, Barret will tell you that the first plans of an anti-shinra organization were created there. So it actually does explain it in FFVII. Just felt like proving the best Final Fantafreak ever wrong xD
Hehe, ah, pronunciation. I've always pronounced Yuffie "Yoof-fee" Like 'oof'. Bugenhagen I pronounced "Boo-gen-hay-gen" However, if it's pronounced with Japanese vowels, then 'ha' is right.
And, I'm glad I'm not the only one to notice the "I'll be stand there." Just like that time Aerith said, "That must means he's hiding something."
Star Wars didn't invent spirituality, HC. FFIV was a bigger rip-off of Star Wars, if you ask me. Golbez may as well have been voiced by James Earl Jones in the DS version.
Oh, I see. You're being silly, like one of the other millions of people who don't realize that to keep a series running, it needs to change. Sure, the newer games are a lot different. It's also a completely different day and age since the first one. Do you know what would have happened if they kept making FF games the same way over and over? One of two things, either they would have run out of plot elements for the game, or they would have lost fans due to repetitive combat.
@amcgbc I'm not saying a series shouldn't change. I'm saying that the last game I remotely enjoyed was X, and if I were running Square I would've been so embarrassed by X-2 that I would've shut down the Final Fantasy series and put the company's resources and talents to work pursuing endeavors that can still have some manner of heart or soul put into them. It's important to recognize when something needs to die.
@kl4969 I agree ten fold, HCBailly is my favorite LPer of all time, his commentary makes the games infinitely more enjoyable, and his insight makes those murderous side quests that leave you searching game faqs all day so much easier, so if he wants to say Yuffie differently than me I definitely have no complaints.
HC Baily it sounds like you had a horrid time doing the FF7 LP, don't correct my materia setup! don't correct my pronunciation! Don't complain about my lack of HP Ups! DIIIIE viewers!
Well, I think, seeing as HC's videos are so popular, that naturally that many people are going to bring along that many naggers and whiners. I'm with him.....way too many people just can't seem to stand the fact that other people (like HCBailly in this case) just want to do things their own way.
When i saw that "Save the planet" dialogue, i suddenly remembered a game from the early 90's where they also had that sentence. But instead of "You have to SAVE the planet!", it read "You have to SHAVE the planet!". For some reason though, the game didn't let me do that...!
I think they explain AVALANCHE a little in before crisis since they are the antagonist group in that game, but i wouldn't know though, i haven't played it yet, if only they would make an international release of that game *sigh*
I need help! im not sure if it is due to scratches or not, and ive usedthe skip dr 2 times now and i get thesame results, but at 4:24, the first time it went to the full view of th observatory with the little planet still floating away from aerith until it disappears in th middle of the screen, and then the sound effects still go on as the game is in a frozen state. ........ continue ........
Makes perfect sense to pronounce it the way HC does. Yooofie is the way that really doesn't make too much sense, but whatever. Both ways are right, so it doesn't matter.
i think its hilarious how you pronounce yuffie. i always thought it was because you were making fun of that character, but idk. yoofee sounds cooler than yuffee! there. i said it...

hey when ever i finish the thing it doesnt let me out idk why idk if its cause my disc is abit scratched or what but im stuck in there and i cant continue the game
Avalanche was created by a guy who came from Cosmo Canyon and went to Midgar. You can find Barret in the mountain on the way up.....just behind the weapon shop there is a room Barret is in there.
I wonder, what exactly powers that 3D Holografic system? Not Mako. They didn't come to present any new energy sources after everyone was back in the Dark Age after the game. What ***holes.
You are wrong. You just do not see the genius of FF12. The whole 70+ hour game is a giant trolling of George Lucas. George tried to make lighting strike a second time with the prequel trilogy and the FF team/Ivalace Alliance was all like "oh hell no, this is how you do it right!"
Well considering they went through like 4 directors in the course of making XII, by the end of the whole debacle whoever the new producer is probably just said "OK, we're already millions in the hole with this project, let's just throw in some heroic rebels/evil empire shenanigans and call it a day!"
Seeing as the director rarely has that much impact over the plot of a Final Fantasy game, I doubt the creation of the plot was that haphazard/insipid.
Naw, I was just trying to be funny, really. But I still say you can tell which parts of the game, say, Matsuno had presidence over as opposed to the parts Kawazu was brought in to finish.
Considering how asteroids are often a group of rocks bound together by their gravitational pull on one another, I can't see a planet just falling apart like that. The bits, assuming some mysterious mojo force caused to to break into pieces, would probably just bunch together and continue to orbit the sun. But the earth's innards are mostly molten anyway, and will be for billions of years. Since they were not molten in the hologram though, I must assume that the solar system in FF is billions...
of years ahead of ours. However, the sun will only last another 7.5 billion before becoming a red giant, at which time the earth is d00med anyway because anything living on earth would fry. Worrying about the lifestream then, seems a bit silly, considering the sun is going to burn out. The real question is, why are humans still around, since evolution would probably result in some drastic changes far in the future?
Ah, you know what, forget it. Time to just accept whatever the game says.
wow disregard my last comment i just saw star wars for the first time and there is a lot of references in this game. clouds village burnt down like lukes biggs and wedge clouds a mercenary in the beggining but comes around kinda like han solo did. and i only saw the first movie. shouldnt have doubted hc
Does ANYONE know the name of the song that's played in the planetarium! PLEASE! I've been looking for it for 8-9 years, so anyone who could tell me, it would be greatly appreciated. I'm looking for either this version, or the one later on in the game, where the drums are put in. btw, thanks for the uploads HC Bailey, you ROCK.
Actually they do explain how avalanche was born in cosmo canyon in this very area. If you come here with Barrett in your party and find him in the town you can hear the story of how him, biggs, wedge, and jessie were here on vacation or something when they decided to go after shinra
i pronounce yuffie like you do--i thought it was wierd when i saw the film and it was "you-fee" and i played ffx and they say choke-a-bow instead of choc-a-bow. haha you just get used to saying it a certain way XD
FFVII was great. Favorite RPG of all time. Played almost all FF games. FF3 and Chrono Trigger were really good too. Any oldschool RPG made by squaresoft was good. Lunar silver star story...just awesome. Currently, still playing FF12. Very addictive. On par with FF7
Think nothing of Yuffie, HC. When I was playing Final Fantasy X, for the longest time, I pronounced Tidus as "Teedus," when the correct pronunciation was "Tide-s". But I still pronounce him as I prefer. Also, Bibbity-Bobbity-Boo was the Fairy Godmother's catchphrase when she cast nagic.
Dragon Warrior was awesome, because back then there was nothing like it. Nobody had ever thought to make a home console video game in an RPG format before (not counting PC text-based adventures). So everything that seems like old hat now was new and innovative in Dragon Warrior, laying the groundwork for some of the basics of RPG play nowadays (leveling up by defeating enemies, getting gold to upgrade equipment, selling old equipment for partial credit, etc.)
I like Chrono Trigger a lot because its more fun. Don't get me wrong, FF6, which was for the same system, was great, but Chrono Trigger had a more fun, borderline silly mood.
Yeah, it sure does. I hate when people think and analyze too much about their surroundings. Wouldn't want people getting too many controversial ideas.
I quite like your pronunciation of "Yuffie". It's the one I used when I played too. I still use it. "You Fee"? No way. If "you fee" is correct then it brings back bad memories. I don't like fees. She's the only one I never got the date sequence for. My guess is you piss off the other girls AND Barret? I've not noted you mentioning things addressing the mystery ninja's disposition to cloud, just the others.
there is an other way. you can just keep trying to recruit her, but screw up on the last question on purpose. the first four will give you a boost, and you can keep doing it over and over to keep getting boosts to her affection.
"I actually don't wanna piss anyone off" awww but but...now I'm interested in your thoughts about spirit/mako energy, lifestream holding the planet together n stuff...lol

Pronouncing Yuffie the way you are makes sense because there is a double 'f'.
People who pronounce it yooffee can't read english. It would be spelled Yufie if it was pronounced that way.

Since they were not molten in the hologram though, I must assume that the solar system in FF is billions...
fascboi 2 years ago
of years ahead of ours.
Time to just accept whatever the game says.
fascboi 2 years ago
At 5:57 on my old copy of FFVII, the screen would freeze. It's a HUGE bummer, seeing as that's as far as I ever got in this game :(
Kidlink77 2 years ago
if you have a psp or ps3, you can get it now for 10 bucks :D
whiteguycash 2 years ago
wow disregard my last comment i just saw star wars for the first time and there is a lot of references in this game. clouds village burnt down like lukes biggs and wedge clouds a mercenary in the beggining but comes around kinda like han solo did. and i only saw the first movie. shouldnt have doubted hc

I always thought Bugenhagen looked like those Glow Worm toys...
CRJLP 2 years ago
i dont think they ripped it off star wars hc sounds like some classic qigong stuff to me
courtjester24 2 years ago
so red xiii ages 3 times normal....so if he's 48 he's 16......
kbhalacy 2 years ago
no kbhalacy, they said 48 year olds are considered 16 in Red XIII's culture. His species actually lives for very long, meaning they age slower

LaPerssonandro 2 years ago
It's called 'Life Stream'.
Nutsaur 2 years ago
did you know a gama ray burst cased tbhe biggest mass exstinction ever
catnickfl 2 years ago
Actually they do explain how avalanche was born in cosmo canyon in this very area. If you come here with Barrett in your party and find him in the town you can hear the story of how him, biggs, wedge, and jessie were here on vacation or something when they decided to go after shinra

Ripping off Star Wars? This is animism, boy, the oldest religious tradition there is.

Did you see the typo around 3:44 or 3:45? "I'll be stand there"

I like to rename the "grand-kid" Red V like from Star Wars.
RedDragon7777 3 years ago 2
I always called Bugenhagen Booga.

Is Judhifen retarded of something? Did you go to elementary school?

Most of my Japanese friends in Japan prounced her name either way YOU-FEE or YUFF-FEE....they are both considered correct HC.

When that planet with the 2 moons passed by at 4:25, it reminded me of the world from FF4 (FF2 on NES).
Narrator007 3 years ago
Don't you mean FF4 (FF2 in USA)?
Two moons? Just like in Tales of Phantasia...Has anyone played THAT game?
Flumpansamonga 3 years ago
Think nothing of Yuffie, HC. When I was playing Final Fantasy X, for the longest time, I pronounced Tidus as "Teedus," when the correct pronunciation was "Tide-s". But I still pronounce him as I prefer. Also, Bibbity-Bobbity-Boo was the Fairy Godmother's catchphrase when she cast nagic.
Judhifen 3 years ago
when i watched the bonus disc you got with ffx they pronounced it as tee-dus but i always went with tide-us cos it sounds less stupid.
so you have been right.
MrSaturnZOOM 2 years ago
yes when i first saw DBZ bibidi babidi and buu i went OMG that was from cinderella
realwarpet 3 years ago
They actually APPLY the Lifestream in Final Fantasy IX.
Collegejew629 3 years ago
How long do you think you'll finish this RPG, HC? I'm looking forward to watching FF5, which is one of my enjoyable games.

Rayblade45 3 years ago
Good choice's! So do you remember what your first RPG was? (sorry if I am making you sound old)
Rayblade45 3 years ago
Dragon Warrior.
HCBailly 3 years ago
Great first RPG, was mine as well.
Could never play through it though.. the battle music gave me nightmares as a kid.
Hope to see you back at 100% soon HC!
aaawwwssswww 3 years ago
man mine was earthbound zero and i feel old as hell
MrSaturnZOOM 2 years ago
that was my first RPG too. Took me like 6 months to beat it back in the day, now I can ODINS (one day in no saves) it.
Collegejew629 3 years ago
Dragon Warrior was awesome, because back then there was nothing like it. Nobody had ever thought to make a home console video game in an RPG format before (not counting PC text-based adventures). So everything that seems like old hat now was new and innovative in Dragon Warrior, laying the groundwork for some of the basics of RPG play nowadays (leveling up by defeating enemies, getting gold to upgrade equipment, selling old equipment for partial credit, etc.)
Narrator007 3 years ago
@HCBailly FINAL FANTASY 10
ShadowLinkRising 1 year ago
Hey HC what is your favorite RPG?
Rayblade45 3 years ago
FF4, with CT as an extremely close second.
HCBailly 3 years ago
I like Chrono Trigger a lot because its more fun. Don't get me wrong, FF6, which was for the same system, was great, but Chrono Trigger had a more fun, borderline silly mood.
paladn95 3 years ago
I liked FF4, but all the dying I went through kinda ruined it for me.
No one ever told me the PS1 version was "Hard" mode. :(

captain planet episode..
homy0007 3 years ago
when you said tennagers saving the world that was a perfect time to put a power rangers clip in
realwarpet 3 years ago 2
Phew, what a philosophical episode. Not a fan of philosophy myself, it seems to just make people bicket a lot.
But the campfire scene I did find rather touching, with everyone sharing their thoughts.
PvtMinsk 3 years ago
Yeah, it sure does. I hate when people think and analyze too much about their surroundings. Wouldn't want people getting too many controversial ideas.
PopeParty 3 years ago
I quite like your pronunciation of "Yuffie". It's the one I used when I played too. I still use it. "You Fee"? No way. If "you fee" is correct then it brings back bad memories. I don't like fees. She's the only one I never got the date sequence for. My guess is you piss off the other girls AND Barret? I've not noted you mentioning things addressing the mystery ninja's disposition to cloud, just the others.
phil082483 3 years ago 3
there is an other way. you can just keep trying to recruit her, but screw up on the last question on purpose. the first four will give you a boost, and you can keep doing it over and over to keep getting boosts to her affection.
