@Claydurr Most goggles you get in the military I dont believe come as "prescription" but I do believe there are inserts that you can have made while you are going through your Basic/AIT process. They look like the lens from your goggles, but larger, and they stick (permanetly, I believe) to the inside of the goggle lens. Hope this helps. Had a few buddies with the same situation and I believe thats what they had done. (Yea, I know this question was a year ago :p)

marines infantry is not the same we use diffrent tactics and we dont travel in big huge groups like marines the most a normal infantry unit will have in afghanistan is about 24 men and 2 humvees thats all irene.infantry marines are most of 60 men.

Marines are trained for a different job than army infantry. Marines are trained to take the beach head. I went through OSUT with two marines and they said that Marines were better at Drill and Ceremony but, not at room clearing, not at move and shoot, none of that.

Umm point and fact USMC basic is alot like Ranger training. If your in the USMC and transfer to any other branch you don't have to retake basic. But if you transfer to the corp you have to retake basic. This i can prove. All Marines are rifileman first not so in the army. But either way they all have a job to do and do it well.
Ranger training is a HELL of lot more tougher then Marine training. My recruiter has been a recruiter for 11 years and he's only had 6 people pass Ranger school, 2 in SF.
You have never been through Marine boot or Marine SOI. You can't even comprehend it, I don't care what branch your in. Just because a recruiter (ESPECIALLY an ARMY recruiter) tells you something doesn't mean its true. I don't know why all of these people continue to argue which is better when none of them have any real experience in the military.

40% graduate from Ranger school. I went to your marine basic training in 1982 and we lost 4 recruits, we lost more than that on the first 6 hours at Ranger school. My class had 9 marines, 5 didn't make it. One thing a Marine told me, Grunt! Everything else is support. You are probably a desk marine that would love to go to Iraq or Afgh but your duties are too important for you to go in harms way.

Also, I have never, ever heard a former Marine call boot "basic training". Also, I am no desk Marine, but the desk Marines I know have been in more firefights than I have.

It was a US Marine patrol on a mail run that just happened to come by while the ambush was happening. NO AIF survived because my soldiers and the Marines knew what to do. Marine is boot camp, all others are basic. Ranger training used to be tough like Marine boot, but it has gone soft. My dog could be a ranger if he wanted to.

Army 11B and Marine Infantry stack up as equals, it just depends on personal preference, Army is better equipped and you can advance further like Airborne and Rangers, but long deployment times, Marines don't have as long deployment time overseas, last time i checked they had an average of 7 months, Army has usually 12-13 months. But as i said before, they are equals.

@Claydurr Most goggles you get in the military I dont believe come as "prescription" but I do believe there are inserts that you can have made while you are going through your Basic/AIT process. They look like the lens from your goggles, but larger, and they stick (permanetly, I believe) to the inside of the goggle lens. Hope this helps. Had a few buddies with the same situation and I believe thats what they had done. (Yea, I know this question was a year ago :p)

Marines are trained for a different job than army infantry. Marines are trained to take the beach head. I went through OSUT with two marines and they said that Marines were better at Drill and Ceremony but, not at room clearing, not at move and shoot, none of that.

Umm point and fact USMC basic is alot like Ranger training. If your in the USMC and transfer to any other branch you don't have to retake basic. But if you transfer to the corp you have to retake basic. This i can prove. All Marines are rifileman first not so in the army. But either way they all have a job to do and do it well.

Ranger training is a HELL of lot more tougher then Marine training. My recruiter has been a recruiter for 11 years and he's only had 6 people pass Ranger school, 2 in SF.

You have never been through Marine boot or Marine SOI. You can't even comprehend it, I don't care what branch your in. Just because a recruiter (ESPECIALLY an ARMY recruiter) tells you something doesn't mean its true. I don't know why all of these people continue to argue which is better when none of them have any real experience in the military.

How many people graduated from your platoon in basic training?
40% graduate from Ranger school. I went to your marine basic training in 1982 and we lost 4 recruits, we lost more than that on the first 6 hours at Ranger school. My class had 9 marines, 5 didn't make it. One thing a Marine told me, Grunt! Everything else is support. You are probably a desk marine that would love to go to Iraq or Afgh but your duties are too important for you to go in harms way.

For starters, 1982 does not equal 2009. You are taking about the Rangers who back in the day were actually the shit, not today my friend. Also, I have never, ever heard a former Marine call boot "basic training". Also, I am no desk Marine, but the desk Marines I know have been in more firefights than I have.

So My friend, just stay at the FOB and let the Infantry protect you and your desk.

I am a gun rock, yet in Afghan I was in a rifle company, and in Iraq I was a vip body guard. Never touched a howitzer outside of America, but I better soon, because I am losing my damn mind. I forgot about the air wingers, the only time I have ever seen them was in cherry point and qatar, and yeah they are a bunch of pussy's ... But unless your an pansee ass officer, the pencil pushers still come outside the FOB sometimes.. kinda like a reservist when someone goes down.

ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FIELD HERE!!!!! I must be fair..... my team got in an ambush in Iraq. I was listening on the radio as the fight went along. As I was talking to the lead vehicle the sound of a .50 come from afar. We had no .50s on our vehicles. SO WTF? It was a US Marine patrol on a mail run that just happened to come by while the ambush was happening. NO AIF survived because my soldiers and the Marines knew what to do. In Iraq or Afgh, you are either a Grunt or a Fobbit.

@Xuande12 I was in the Army for 5 years, and I definately can agree with two parts of your comment, 1. Army recruiters are bullshit liars, don't believe a word they say, and 2. "I don't know why all of these people continue to argue which is better when none of them have any real experience in the military." Well said. Not trying to knock on the US Army, but I do believe the Marines are a smaller force, but a better force from my experience. Comradery seemed far better then the Army.

Marine is boot camp, all others are basic. Ranger training used to be tough like Marine boot, but it has gone soft. My dog could be a ranger if he wanted to.

vector150 ALL SOLDIERS are riflemen too they teach every soldier in basic combat tactics and how to shoot and use weapons 2nd and extra month in marines boot camp does not make marines better than soldiers if it would, then america would b behind the uk who trained their royal marines for 30 weeks or even the astrulian army who trains for 26 weeks so stop with all that bulshit

USMC is NOT some SOF Division, they HAVE SOF AKA MARSOC which is Force Recon, but EVERYTHING else is conventional, idiot.

Army 11B and Marine Infantry stack up as equals, it just depends on personal preference, Army is better equipped and you can advance further like Airborne and Rangers, but long deployment times, Marines don't have as long deployment time overseas, last time i checked they had an average of 7 months, Army has usually 12-13 months. But as i said before, they are equals.

I disagree completely and the only people that say Marine and Army are equals is Army hooah's. Ranger's don't even have shit on the Marines. Hell, I have personally seen Marine Corps artillery RESERVISTS show up Army SF in infantry situations.

I totaly agree with you, it is all about money, but we did win the "war"(which was declaired over in late 05 i belive) we kicked the everliving dog shit out of sadam and his band of baddies. The occupation is were we lose. We should have left right after Sadam and his kids were delt with, left the new prime minister with a few things to think about . the only way to win wars is to let the warriors fight it, keep the hippies and politicians out of our hair. Its the only way to win, all the talk on capitol hill and all the protest dont make a damn bit of diffrence on the streets of any war zone, they could only complicate and cripple our fighting force, i realize this will never happen due largely to the fact that we have become a very passive agressive/feminized society. just my opinion.
