I do all of these things, but when it still doesn't get realized...I do put the hammer down (not physically...ever) as to my duty, authority (which is backed up by God) & my concern for them whether they like it or not at that point. In a perfect world, being a flower would evoke emulation of the flower-like personality, but in the real world...flowers tend to get stepped on, being they're in the way of whatever innane endeavor a child is preoccupied with. After their lecture, we talk about it.
I really like #7. I'm a mom of 3 children, and I just want to say that this is a completely different perspective on how to respond positively to your child. I appreciate your tips. I was raised so differently, that I'm having to rewire my brain to respond to my children in a more effective and positive fashion. I really like the idea of responding "yes" instead of no and using it in the example you mentioned! I'll be trying this out.
I know not to judge a book by its cover, but doc, PLEASE take some pride in your appearance. You look all disheveled here which doesn't really make a professional impression.
@msk7046 Me thinks your eyes are a big part of your problem. In this world, you'd better walk around with your eyes shut. Remember how angelic Jeffery Dahmer's face was? If he had invited you in for tea, you'd go because of his appearance, right?

That was great - I so agree with the saying yes and also of parents respecting kids. But they are all great points.
thank you.
