  • @SyncTheInternet True. I never said the WC sifu was mad though, I said he freaked out because he was nervous, and thus lost control. Friendly spar's usually should build up. As one guy goes more, you go more, no one just all of a sudden go out out of nowhere and make contact when your opponent is stopping to give you some room.

  • monk would have destroyed that guy if like he said, he didn't hold back. He didn't know to what extent that "friendly spar" would be. That usually means no contact. That WC guy obviously was nervous and lost control, and hit the monk while he moved back, while the monk was not pressing forward because he didn't want the WC guy to run out of space.

Clearly the slip up was from the WC guy for freaking out since "friendly spar" means no contact, just exchange of hand techniques.

  • No disrespect to the monk, but that was quite an impressive spar by the big guy.. Fast and accurate.. All credit to GM Cheung, for the Art and the intelligence of stopping it before things got "political" if you know what I mean..

  • I couldn't make the trip with Sifu Moore and my other WC brothers but those that did make the trip said that Sifu Moore and the Monk became good friends after that friendly exchange.

  • Thank you for your kind words. All the best to you on your journey,

    Sifu Moore

  • i just want to make a little comment on this clip and pay my respects

the display from sifu Moore was outstanding (did look a little like western boxing - but i think that was without the 'forward pressure' that SiFu Moore says he wished he had given)he put the monk to shame and it seems as though the only reason that Grandmaster Cheung said to stop was that the hosts (shaolin) where about to get embarrased as Sifu Moore had nowhere 2 go but forwards

i have also read your internet comments

  • The monks actually choose to have it in an open forum to have an "exchange" of information is how they describe it. That was completely their idea. This was not a fight as I would attack using different weapons.

  • I read about the full situation and I understand now. Sorry, I was shocked to see this so I reacted to quick. But I read sifu Moore learned from the monks and received some kind of certificate?

  • Yes the Head Warrior Monk (the one in the video) actually trained him in Chan Wu and he was awarded a certificate of "attachment" to shaolin.

  • Why couldn't you do this in private and not infornt of everyone? You have something to prove?

  • You may have the wrong impression. Actually it was originally planned to be in private involving some other Sifu's.I was not expecting to do anything with the monk myself. The monks actually choose to have it in an open forum to have an "exchange" of information is how they describe it. That was completely their idea.

  • Thank you for your kind words and true words...all the best on your journey,

    Sifu Shannon Moore

  • Shamo69 -Issue a challenge for a free fight but with gloves and see if they dare to accept. Would you have anything against doing that?

  • I stopped issueing challanges alog time ago. It was never "MY" intention to do anything more then train with the monks. Afterall, it would be like challanging my own grandfather (ancesterial lineage) or the pastor of my church to a fight and that is poor form for someone in MA as long as I. Besides, there are other "more deserving" knuckleheads out there to beat down.

  • Yes you are right...:)

  • Actually, this monk and I became great freinds. You dont see it on this clip so its hard to know what the context of the exchange was about. He knew that I was not fighting him which is why he did not escalate the situation after my initial slap, instead he just slapped me right back.

  • After the whole thing he made sure that everyone knew that I was NOT his enemy but a freind and that he had no problem with the incident. In a real fight I would more likely of pressed forward with closed fist or palms, elbows etc. As I sure he would as well.

  • To let him regain face I allowed him to demonstate his quickness without me defending and that seemed to save face for him. Do a search for Wing Chun (TWC)at shaolin temple" and you will see a clearer and close up clip and his demonstartion at the end. I am going to see visit with him again in 2008 on my next Chinma Trip.

  • I know, i know. I saw the other clip. You even let him reach you after you connected. It was clear that you did not want him to lose face after the fight.

    But you know....they are chinese.

WingChun has very powerful weapons and you train to fight with wingchun...not with shaolin temple style.

And I practice shaolin temple style. ;)

  • ahhh I see some sense in what you are saying because I randomly fell on that other clip and was kind of shoscked seeing how the monk was being so disrespectful and acting really supperior but I guess he is a supperior..Im a fully passionated Shaolin Wing Chun student and this is my first year :)
