Good job! I want to make one. I'd say do an Archangel costume and get a spartan leather chest armor and have it mounted on the back. Is the a remote to extend the wings or is it a switch?
Would you have a diagram on how to put one together? Also how do you go about putting feathers on it!
my idea was to find a backpack with a back support and mount it to the support and wear it like that. or my other idea was to make something similar to what marching band snare drum players use to hold the drum. the idea would be to make something like that to mount it to, then have a waist belt to stabalize it. hope that helps, can elaborate a bit if you need. Thanks for your interest, and i'd like to see what you come up with.
I know you said you didn't finish them, however I was wondering if you had any ideas for a harness for them/how you were actually going to wear them? I'm currently working on a pair of animatronic wings, they're in the prototype stage but my friends and I are at a loss on how to actually put them on XD
@mfsgoodlilslave it's a logn story. basicly i got it in my mind to make them, researched, then drew up rough skematics and started with a wood mockup to test the idea, then i started on the real thing, and with alot of trial and error i made them. anyone can do it. just need the right tools and the determination.
@BlueSkaros444 yeah they get good movement. i really don't know the torque on the motors but it's one motor per wing, run off one 18-21v drill battery for both motors. and the wingspan is 14 foot. I did finally find out that the window motors and regulators i used were off earlier 2000's model ford taurus rear doors.
@BlueSkaros444 Honetly i never did finish these. they work but i wanted to make them more smoth functioning and never got around to the straps to hold them on so when i get the time i plan on finishing them, or making a better pair but yeah, i'd like to see yours.
@megduck hey, These are made from power window regulators and motors and stainless steel, and alluminum. the peices are cut to shape and assembled with everyday nuts and bolts. the actuator on this is the only tricky part.
@Drake3498 no, just went to auto repair school after highschool. i just had an idea to make these and brainstormed and sketched it. then i made a wood mock up to roughly test the idea, then worked on the main one. it was mainly a bit of trial and error.
WOW over 1 year and 5000 views and my sorry poor ass still hasn't finished these yet. dont worry though, i FINALLY got a new job that actually pays. sooo... i'll be finishing these by mid summer time AND i'll try to make a tutorial video. not saying i'm good at explaining my madness but i'll try for all those who have asked. so Thank all of you for the 5000 views. your awesome. and i hope you like.
Dude, what are you using for a motor? I am looking to build similar wings, and I was hoping to make them motorized instead of having pieces of twine tied to my elbows. Maybe you can write up a tutorial for now and put it on a blog page somewhere? I am getting a new Devil mask this year before Halloween, and I thought having a pair of "Devil" wings would be a shocker at the haunted house we make every year. Can you help me out a little?
there is a possibility i could make a rough tutorial by reverse engineering it. but at the moment i havnt had the time to even completely finish these.
i've been thinking of that as well. i havn't put it to the drawing board yet but i may give it a go later on. it all starts with an idea. build from there.
i'm using a 21volt kawasaki cordless drill battery. unfortunately i fried the charger and currenly have no money to buy another, so the project is on hold. as soon as i have enough money to get another battery charger or drill set then i'll continue on the project.
Would you be able to zoom into the mechanical portion of the wings, I would like to build something like this for a halloween project that I am working on.
I used car window motors. actually still need to figure out what car they were from because i just had them laying around and i used a butchered form of the regulator too so i kinda need t figure it out. Thanks

Ah, I was wondering if you were using window motors or not...
For mine I used 21.0 lb*in Hitec servos, though I used two for each wing. Looks like alot of movement there on yours too.
What's the torque on the motors, and what's the wingspan?

@deathatsix Dang 14 feet? Mine are about 9 feet and they're pretty manageable, though I have to pull them back when walking through a crowd.

These are amazing! I'm looking to make a similar pair. Could you tell me what materials you used to put this together?

could you possibly make a tutorial?

there is a possibility i could make a rough tutorial by reverse engineering it. but at the moment i havnt had the time to even completely finish these.

i wouldnt even know how to start making one of these lol XD, it would be awesome if they folded out and then flapped as well.

yeah sorry. that happened when i rendered it out because of my lacking computer skills. it only explains pretty much what i said in the description.

as soon as i can get these all done i should be able to build more on commission.
