  • @GrungeRockGod I do not really know what a chest dip is so I cannot answer your question. Sorry

  • @roughneckasian A chest dip is an exercise similar to the tricep dip only you lean a little more forward and the hands are place 1-2 inches further up on the dip bar. Uses the chest more.

  • @roughneckasian if you dont keep your elbows in on a dip, you use more of your chest. it actually makes a good chest workout if your elbows are way out!

  • @roughneckasian almost like tricep dip, but the handles are set wider. You use your chest more than on the tricep dip.

  • @roughneckasian you performed the tricep dip.

chest dip is when you utilize your chest more by arching

your back the opposite way and when going down opening

the elbows sideways, therefore putting the pressure on

your chest. not a bad exercise either i must say.

  • @GrungeRockGod The more you lean forward in the dip the more you are targeting your chest. Also the further down you go the more you target your chest.

  • @GrungeRockGod

Most weighted dip videos you see have people leaning forward and using more of their chest. Go to the site Starting Strength . com and read the article "The quest for a stronger overhead press" there's a section about dips

  • @GrungeRockGod

    It's all about the angle

  • @GrungeRockGod tricep dip u dont lean forward chest dip u lean forward thats the diffrence u feel more on chest when u lean forward

  • @GrungeRockGod they'r both the same movement, except with chest-dip you (lean-forward)....tricep-dip you (lean right back-upper body completely straight up + down)! both great builders.

  • @GrungeRockGod Main difference between the two is grip placement. Generally speaking, a chest dip will have a wide hand placement (hands further from the body). The tricep dip will have a narrow hand placement (hands closer to the body). Placement that varies in your hand placement is found on your machine dips. Typically, the area in the gym that you perform dips will is a set distance (like the one Tuan is doing)- obviously working the chest primarily and triceps secondary.

  • @GrungeRockGod perhaps your getting it mixed up Dips are a compound workout meaning they work both chest and triceps.

  • @GrungeRockGod you lean forward more to work the chest

  • @GrungeRockGod For chest dips, lean forward and use a bigger range of motion (a little deeper than 90 degrees).

For tricep dips, kneel straight up and use a more limited range of motion (a little more shallow than 90 degrees).

  • @GrungeRockGod a tricep dip is staying upright the whole time - body straight. a chest dip requires you to learn forward, keeping your body at roughly 45 degrees from the floor.

Tricep dip works 75% triceps, 25% chest (mostly lower)

Chest dip works 60% triceps, 40% chest (mostly lower)

Approximative %, just to paint a picture.

  • @GrungeRockGod the difference is that a chest dip is usually angling yur neck down

  • @GrungeRockGod It is where your place your feet and angle your body. If you have your feet behind and dip straight up and down it is more focused on tricep. If you place your feet in front of you and form the shape of like this ) keeping chin to chest and looking down it will focus on your chest a bit more. Emphasis on a bit.

  • @GrungeRockGod for a chest dip your leaning forward more theirs a video of branch warren doin them

  • @GrungeRockGod a chest dip is when you lean forward... it changes the focus from triceps to the chest

  • your a fucking asian beast you remind me of goku with glasses and a shorter hair cut

  • your a fucking asian beast you remind me of goku with glasses and a shorter hair cut

  • tricep dips are tough. i stick to free weights for now until i can do chin ups and pullups with ease.

  • You are a beast man.

  • how do i get rid of my love handles? running?

  • you cannot spot reduce. only when you lose enough bodyfat thru diet and training will they go away

  • @roughneckasian couldn't be more true - when i was still training people everyone wanted to know how to lose fat in a particular part of their body, and the fact is, your body will burn fat wherever it wants to. nutrition and working the full body is the only way.

  • @dm325 I wish there was a way, but as of now, the only way to spot reduce is to do lipo surgury, but if you think about how much it cost and that they can only pull out 15 to 20 lbs at most (because it is a medical risk to pull more than that at any one time), it really is not worth it

  • @roughneckasian it will also leave a spotty pitted look sometimes. It is very hard for the surgeon to get a smooth uniform look. My girlfriend wanted some spot reduction and even the top plastic surgeon still could not get perfect smooth look. I would not personally recommend it unless you feel its absolutely needed.

  • @dm325 if you do a lipo suction you have got to be just as diciplined as you would by taking off the fat with training and diet. You will gain the weight again, as what happens during a lipo is just emptying the fat cells, they will scream for food, and you will want to eat. There are no simple solutions, diet and exercise, diet and exercise. If you are going to spend your money towards losing fat and you want to shape ur body or w/e, just use the money on Tuan here instead.

  • @therpk11 lose the excess fat and tightening the muscle of the body

  • Dude you are fucking jacked, flawless form too

  • This is a great video, but what kind of belt did you use to attach the dumbbells?

  • chain belt

  • how can you impove the amount of reps you can do on that, cuz my dad can do like 60 of them, no joke, he said if i can ever out do him he will buy me a new laptop, how can i increase the reps of those dips, but he does it with 2 chairs and goes between the 2 chairs with the back of the chair facing him

  • where can i get the thing he was using to attach the weight to his body?

  • badass bro

  • hi tuan, been watching your videos for inspiration and wanna say good on you. I'm vietnamese too, and have been training on and off for 7 years now. Gave up for a year but have started again for 2010. I'm a hardgainer, 6ft 71kg at Xmas but am back up to 79kg. Didn't think asians could get big without roids but uve made me give it another shot. Good role model!

  • thnka for the support

  • That looks crazy, Dumbbell is MASSIVE, fair play buddy savage stuff

  • How come you have decided not to go heavier than 120 lbs? You could probably bust out a few reps with 200ish around your waist. Are you afraid of too much overload on the tris? Shoulder strain? I ask this question because I developed a condition that feels and acts like tendonitis in my left tricep after doing dips with 90 around the belt. Thanks

  • mostly because I hate pulling the chain through some many 45 lbs plates. I have gone up to 4 45 lbs plates, but it was a pain setting it up. Also for safety as well. If anything should go wrong, for if I hit failure, I would not like to have that much weight on me. For a good heavy tricep exercises, I like to go with either close grip bench press, or ez bar skull crushers. Best of all, easier on the joints

  • Shut up.

  • now i knew.. even tought now i have big chest/bicep/tricep.. but i fail on navy workout..

  • I can only do 18-20 reps with my bodyweight. I'm 5'8" 207. I don't lock out & it is at the end of my workout. Damn good job.

  • if i was not training for powerlifting, I toowould not lock out as well. ifs best to have a very slight bent in the elbows if one is to do dips. so that is good that you do not

for me in the meets, I have to lock out on the bench press, so that is my reason. but when training for bodybuilding, i will not lock out ever. thanks for the comment

  • yes

  • What a man, a living sculpture!

  • do those dips hurt ur shoulders?

  • no, but i do alot of mobility training, myofascial release, stretching and do may pulling exercises to keep my posture in check. you may have anterior shoulder postural deviations. if you do not work on that, then your shoulders will aways hurt. plus, there are other ways to train the triceps, so if any exercise give you pain, just find another one to sub for it

  • thanks for replying and i will work on it looking it up now :) thanks again

  • How long you been bodybuilding for ?

What do you in and how offerend do you eat through the day ?

What exercises your doing for shoulders ?

  • You are seriously buff man, I want to have a body like you someday. Can I know how long you've worked out to get big arms like those?

  • alot of time, commitment, effort, and consistant training and dieting

  • fantastic, great shape man

  • how long have you worked out? I can think you have used many years to build a body like that without steriods and stuff like that. Your videos are a big inspiration to other athletes and bodybuilders. keep making them and good luck with future contests!

  • Mother fukin power machine gear or natural you are a strong guy.

  • thanks for the comment.

  • i think its bad for your elbow....

  • good observation. it can be if you are not careful. However, in a powerlfiting meet, the person MUST lock his elbows in order for all 3 judges to give him the white lights as a good bench press. if I do not lock them, they will foul me on the lift and I will not get the credit for the it.

And trust me, I would rather do this lock out vs 400 lbs on bench anyday. but if i did not powerlift, i would not lock my elbows, and if I did, it would be just my bodyweight. thanks for the comment

  • thx for the reply..sry that i'm spamming your videos but what do you mean with "lock" the elbows? (sry. im german^^)

  • Wenn man die Ellbogen ganz durchstreckt, so dass der Arm dann komplett gerade ist.

  • Respect, I can do it with 15kg and I thought I was doing well, a little further to go, heeh

  • Tuan Tran. You are a very good bodybuilder, powerlifter, and weight trainer.

  • thanks, always trying to improve

  • Tuan looks like Jin Katama here!

  • Lol ipod shuffle x"D

  • I alawys thought that and been taught, not to lock youre elbows but stop just before lock out and lower 2x slower than you went up?Workx well with no injury to possibly worry about

  • looks kinda wrong...but i'm so glad that it worked out so well for you LOL =)

  • That was pretty impressive. Ive done 90 lbs before but my form is not as clean as yours.

  • Watched almost all your videos man, I must say you got a god dang nice physique! but you're strong too! showing many people out there that there is strong bodybuilders too! keep up the strength man! and post some benchvideos! that would be awesome!

  • Damn, that looks great; nice and controlled. I actually just found your videos and I'm going to follow your development closely from now on. You don't have a blog or anything like that? Anyway ... Good luck with everything, and keep doing your thing, because it's clearly working out for you!

  • Wow that was an awesome set. Much more pleasing to see than people doing 1 poor form rep with much more weight than they can handle!

Its unfortunate though because I thought I was pretty strong doing 6reps at 55lbs, now I feel damn weak :/

  • Yo, tran, when i do dips i get a cracking in the middle of my chest...what is this?

  • sorry but i do not have an answer to that. you may want to get that checked out with an x-ray or a mri. but either way, that does not sound normal.

  • yeh me too this happened when i did them with my legs straight. instead of a slight angle.

  • lol you dont wear a top at the gym?

  • i wouldnt either if i was flexing :P

  • FYTTI HÆLVETE! Amazingly strong!

  • what do u use for a pre workout and a post workout supplement? and whats the STRONGEST fat burner? cos i need to look good for my vacation next month and i need a little help

  • the strongest fat burner is good hard cardio

  • lol i just now noticed that after i fucked up my kidenys after staking up soo many pills

  • when ur doing dips for the chest as opposed to triceps, is it better to flare the the elbows out or tuck it in? thanks

  • i always keep my elbows tucked in to keep a more compact posture and body position to give me the most stablility and support. for myself, i would never flare them out for it may lead to injury in my opinion. however, that is just me and that does not mean that flaring the elbows out will not work for others. all in all, i would rather use another exercise like pushups or dumbell presses to get a better feel for my chest. dips are more of a clean up at the end of the workout. hope this helps

  • great advise. Thanks alot mate!

  • i like flare elbows out, but yea i see ur point, with heavy weights n a lil mishap, u could really injury urself..

  • u shouldnt make ur arms complately straight at the tip of the rep, its bad for the embows

  • you do have a good point. however, when doing the bench press in a power lifting meet, locking the elbows is required before they let you start your lift, and after you finish your press. you must fully lock out your arm before they give you the command to rack the weight. if u dont, you are disqualified. so because of that reason, i have to train like this. BUT ONLY FOR THAT REASON. But once my training gears towards bodybuilding, i do not lock my elbows, i stop right b4 the lockout.

  • o ok thats cool

great job by the way, ur a strong asian motherfucker lol

  • lol, it took alot of training to get to this level, but still, good point about the elbows. no need to lock them unless you have a reason to.

  • yea i was actually afraid for you considering u got 120 lbs while locking out ur elbows. I know this guy who was locks out his knees when doing really heavy leg presses and now hes got those hiyena knees, the ones that bend backwards..

  • u a hero roughneckasian

  • wow. That's a hard dip

  • hello i cant do this bymyself i have to take about 60kg off to be able to do this any ideas on how to fix this? do you have msn or something would be a great help?

  • work up to it. it will take time. I do not use msn for after working full time and training, i barely have anytime to be online

  • lmao for a sec i thought u werent using a belt.. 120 between ur legs?!?!

    lol nice vid

  • thanks for the comment. yes my friend, that is a chain belt where you can add extra weight when doing exercises, and it is 120 lbs hanging on it. but trust me, I do not do this on a regular bases.

  • damn 55 kilo extra weight and ure doin bout 17/18 reps thats heavy..i do about 12 with no extra weight lol

  • trust me, i don't do this at this intensity every time. also, it took me years to build up to this strength and conditioning level. thanks for the comment

  • wooooow add 5~ish pounds and you where lifting the equivalent of me XD ultra cool, keep up the good work :D

  • thanks for the comment, will do

  • Hi Tuan,

    thanks for the great tips..

    New big

    Archid

  • no prob

  • hi tuan im kind of a new fan because you have the same outlook as me. i was just wondering if you had stretch marks at any time during your life in bodybuilding and do they eventually go? i have stretch marks and am natural like you. all my friends tease me and say im on roids. hope you can put my m8s straight and if not then am i just putting mass on 2 quickly? im doing a sports science course and take pride in my nutrition but i cant get my head round this?

    p.s congrats on musclemania

  • try using coco butter on the stretch marks us it of than and everyday. that may help. also we are all different. some individuals are hard gainers, others can just look at food and feel like they just gain a lbs. just keep training, and if they are really your friends, they will in the end support you vs. teasing you.

  • Hey Tuan, I was wondering if I should incorporate some plyometrics into my routine. What are the benefits of it to bodybuilding? I'm not really concern with strength or agility, just size.

  • it will help with conditioning and vasularity. that is why plyometrics will help, to get you ripped.

  • Ok thanks, looking forward to your next video

  • is it bad to lock elbows? what about for other exercises?

  • yes it can, but I have to have a strong lock out for the bench press in power lifting. that would be my reason why i lock out. if you joints hurt, dont do this exercise and do come cable extensions, db kick backs or diamond push ups. there are some many ways to training. trust me, i do alot more than just this for my tris

  • Hey Tuan. I just want to tell you to becareful, my friend dislocated his shoulder a little while back. Now he is depressed bc he cant do weightlifting and bc he lost alot of muscle mass. I have seen some of your routines and i think you are risking it.

  • Thanks for the comment and concerns. But just to put your mind at ease, this vids are much more extreme than my real training. I just showing off my full strength in the vids, but when I train, though intense it is not this extreme. trust me, if i was doing this much every time i trained, i would spend more time rubbing icy hot on my joints than hitting the weights...lol.

  • great job!!!

    watched most of your videos

    they are all awesome!!!

    keep it up

  • do you own your own gym?

  • no i do not

  • That was kick ass.

  • thanks

  • Mad dips bro, great job.

  • What's the weight limit of the handles on that apparatus?

I'm a really big guy, both ways, and, I'm always afraid that I'll break it if I were to do any exercises like that.

  • Trust me, no own or company will buy a piece of equitment that has not been test a great deal. So no need to worry too much. That piece of equitment can hold easily triple what I and that dumbell weight combined. But if you are in doubt, always ask to make sure

  • Thanks.:)

  • I'm gonna work out at the pit at Muscle Beach this afternoon and will think of this video while doing dips.

How about a new posing video.

  • new posing video will be coming soon

  • Wel done Tuan. Keep up the good work. I acidentally came across your video here recently and I have told all my Vietnamese friends about you. We are proud of you and hope to see more of your videos and photos. You're an inspiration.

  • thanks for the comment on the support. i will try to keep them coming

  • I truly do not know how you were able to speak after this set--most men would have been sucking wind

  • I have some of the mma instructors to thank at Elite Martial Arts help work on my conditioning, so that helps alot. But thanks for the comment

  • Thanks for another great video Tuan. Could you critique my triceps workout? I'm doing tricep kickbacks, flat or incline skullcrushers, close grip bench, french presses (3 sets x 8 reps for everything) and dips to failure.

  • you got alot of volume in your program, and everything is in the strength range for reps. depends on what you are looking for. do some long movements like cable or dumb bell overheads. You got 3 muscles that make up the tricep, so remember to get the long head too. also one of my favorites is the tempo or timed set. 60 secs, do as many as possible and hold when u reach failure 4 the rest of the remaining time. try with dips or close grip bench. hope this helps. thanks for the comment

  • Cool I'll try it, thanks a lot Tuan.
