Who wouldn't be more than proud to own one of those beasts? Short viewed suits killed Plymouth line....what a shame. The only real problems these old Plymouth's were known for was the back axel seizing up ( besides the starters of all Mopar's). They were great entry level cars for the "regular" person....and those butt-holes killed it.
Plymouth could be back tonite IF they wanted. i'll take a plymouth neon with the new MYT motor under hood. the sales slogan should read "STOP SENDING YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY OVERSEAS" /OUT OF THE COUNTRY.LET PLYMOUTH SHOW YOU HOW..
I HAVE A 71 CHALLENGER WITH 50000 ORG MILES ON IT IT WAS IN AN OREGON GARAGE FOR 30 YEARS I CHANGED THE OIL AND ALL THE FLUIDS NEW BATTERY AND IT STARTED UP ON THE FIRST TRY STILL SMELLS LIKE A NEW CAR ..I DRIVE IT EVRYDAY AND I DRIVE IT LIKE I STOLE IT!
I had a Plymouth Acclaim for 13 years and gave it to my parents with 360k on the Odometer. Not the hottest thing on the street but it got me everywhere.
If i could choose to have any car in the world 69 vitamin C orange roadrunner 440 liftoff hood 4 speed would be my one and only choice. screw todays crap, whos gona want any of the cars put out today in 30 years.
1970 Was the greatest year for mopar muscle. never was anything like it before or never will see it again. Thats it everbody keep saying the jap cars get better mileage , and see what happens to your job, all gone, keep buying jap cars and before you know it .thats all it will be.americans work in america.not Japville, so buy american cars. u think those boys in ww2 died for japaness cars.i dont think so
I totally agree that 1970 was a great year for Mopar.
However, the Buy American thing is a little shaky. For example, while Fords are built in China (ever wonder why they didn't go bankrupt?), Toyotas are built in America to a greater extent than any other automaker. I'm not saying that everyone should go buying Toyota, but it's a point you might want to ponder. Personally, I don't care where a car is built, as long as I like the car.
That means Japan is out, Mopar and Porsche are in.
Plymouth....Sad day when the Chrysler corperation decided to axe Plymouth from the line-up. Look at some of the great cars Plymouth once had in their line-up.
The scum at Daimler killed the Plymouth. Chrysler management was planning to revitalize the Plymouth name with the Prowler and the PT Cruiser was going to be a Plymouth. But then came the "merger" and Chrysler got raped and discarded. Think of that when you see a Benz on the road. Never, ever buy a Benz.
@gqjohnny Daimler made a poor move, true enough. They should have never gotten involved with such a crappy company as Chrysler. Chrysler has made many bad decisions in the last 30 years and the merger cost Daimler its diamond reputation. Mercedes-Benz are the safest and highest quality cars on the road. Think of that when you see a cost-cut Chrysler on the road. Never, ever buy a Chrysler.
@The6000Sabre chrysler went from the most profitable car company to near bankrupt in 10 years. then 6 years later they nearly went under. thank you fiat for saving chrysler. don't f' it up like diamler and cerbrus.
@70fury3 The Plymouth sales theme for this model year WAS "The Rapid Transit System" and selling cars at the BEGINNING of the year was a novel notion as you didn't really need to before 1973, Plymouth had great sales and still based on a VALIANT (mind you the most radical one you could buy).
That car will top 120 mph and 0-60 at an oscene pace with a 340.
@steadfastcoward Cool well I'll see what a 360 stroked to a 408 will do soon in my 70 fury, Speed O Motive will be done soon...Should be a real fun car
Yeah! A long time ago, I had a 1969 Sport Fury -- get this -- station wagon. The original engine was a 318 LA, but I swapped in a '69 440 -- "built to the hilt" as we used to say -- and put L60's on the front and N50's in the back. My kids absolutely loved riding around in that barge; it seemed like there was room to play soccer where the third seat folded down.
Woodgrain sides, hood like the deck of an aircraft carrier, air conditioning, built Torqueflite, rims and tires...Oh, YEAH!
If the general public only knew,..what these cars would be worth in less than 40yrs. In say 1989 someone sellin' a 70hemicuda or hemianything was askin around 25k for a complete decent restoration car. In 1989 that was a high price. NOW..AN ORIGINAL HEMIANYTHING GOES FOR AT THE LEAST 60-80K.
A 340 duster would smoke the shit out of many cars with twice the displacemnt, a stock 340 duster would eat a stock 383 road runner & shit it in a sack.
Hmmm, with Chrysler reviving the Dodge Challenger, perhaps one day they could revive the Plymouth brand again - A Barracuda twin would be cool - Although if they were to do a modern day Duster, they would likely base it on the Avenger Platform (which i'm surprised Chrysler hasn't released a coupe variant for)...
You can thank your gov't and the insurance companies for taking all the fun out of cars. The old days are never coming back, tho with a little ingenuity, they have the technology to put 400 horses under an affordable hood these days, but look at it this way; the engineers who desinged the musclecars are long retired, and the engineers who design today's stuff grew up having 1990 cavaliers as a first car..pretty hard to get worked up about performance if that's where your memories are from.
Hey man the Duster was a true muscle car like any of the other ones on that commercial. Just because it didn't come with a big block option doesn't mean it couldn't pound a few heads. The Duster makes a great all around car due to it's light weight, compact style and good yet all business looks.
Chrysler needs to get its head out of the sand and build a new 'Cuda with the look and feel of the original car (as close as possible) and a new set of engines true to its heritage. Use some of the new high-tech engines and suspension technology but keep the old look. They will sell thousands!
There is someone that has had a 'one-off' "2008" Cuda built, based off the new Challenger - although it is badged as the less catchy "Chrysler Barracuda"...
I understand why we have tuned our performance minded Detroit plants down, I just wish that instead of them telling us we have to accept it, that they instead let us choose what we want. Like maybe offer a line of cars meant to do what the 65 - 71 series of Mopars did as well as offering the newer more efficiant vehicles. It is communistic the way things are done these days.
yeah id dig them all they were bitchen ass cars back then i rember when i was a kid back in the 80s i was born in 79 the cars was'nt really as populer like they r now i grow up with some of them old cars my mom and dad had there share of old mopars i have the mopar poison in my blood lol
What the heck happened to American cars. I am salavating at the entire Plymouth line up. Today it is hard to find 3 or 4 I actually like out of the entire Big Three all put together.
If I had money to buy a 2 million dollar Cuda, I'd pull the stock motor, build another stock specs 426 Hemi and race and drive the car like it was intended, then after a couple years do another 6 figure restoration. Also alot of people didn't know then what they know now, most people we're cracked out then or whatnot, smart people hung on to their cars haha.
Who wouldn't be more than proud to own one of those beasts? Short viewed suits killed Plymouth line....what a shame. Who destroyed the US auto industry?
Well it began with that eunuch Ralph Nader. Then the dipsshits is congress got into the act. Assholes such as Nancy Pelosi.
Then the unions got too damn lazy & greedy for their own good.
OPEC played a role.
Then management hired all these idiot MBA bean counters to overrule engineers and designers.
Then Americans bought into the Madison Avenue fagot ass Euro craze of the moment. Later the cheap ass Japanese craze.
And BINGO Detroit goes in the toilet.

I know! Plymouth was Chrysler Corp.'s entry level brand. You never eliminate your entry level products.
What if Ford Motor eliminated Fords and only kept Mercury & Lincoln? Would that be a smart business move? Or GM cutting Chevrolet?
The asshole Krauts at Daimler were responsible for fucking up Chrysler. When Iococo retired, CC was doing fine.
