  • @805baseballxxx Well not many people were in lifting anyway and it makes it abit more convinient. And in powerlifting meets I compete in a division called 'powersports" which is curl, bench, and deadlift for total. So curling heavy is a must for me. I train everything heavy mostly no matter what it is.. And if you want to see me deadlifting. I hve a vid up of me doing 586 at 170 bdw from my last meet.

  • You cant win with these kind of isolation show off videos, either you cheat and get hated, or you use good form which means you wont be lifting much weight and get called a pussy.

    Imo the guy's biceps are all you need to look at to tell he's proficient at curling with good form, they look strong.

  • @KaeruthePaladin Well I have actuall gained a good amount of strength since this video and can prove cn still go pretty heavy srict or near strict. But thats still not te way normally train because like you said "isolation" only lifts do not give you the best strength gains if you are training for powerslifting and strenght which is my main goal. But thanks for the compliment I guess my arms are pretty decently built for mainly power training. I guess my style works some for mass too.

  • impressive weight try to do it with less cheating though..but still..impressive. most i can do without any cheating so far is 70 :S but i'm trying to work my way up to about 120 before i attempt to cheat.. how much is ur strict max?

  • @theplumchow Well, this is an over a year old vid. I think I can get this stricter now I actually have a slighty more updated vid of it more strict from a few months back. But I have done a 180 in the gym almost a year ago that I felt was strict.

  • To all the haters and form sticklers who believe in perfect form guess what strict form does not always yield the best results, arnold, magnus samuelson, bill kazmaier, jay cutler, and ronnie coleman certainly do not always use strict form when they curl, they swing the weights alil bit themselves or a lot and jerk there bodies too.

    Tell ya what how about all you form nazi's tell these guys how to curl because they have only won mr. olympia and the worlds strongest man.

  • considering all the above names you mentioned only do bodybuilding or strongman, this is still terrible form. strict curls are for powerlifting competitions, not strongman or bodybuilding. cool you can pick up 190lbs and use your whole body to swing the weight up, congrats you should get a cookie. as for ppl hating on certain vids,they only hate the fact that you claim big weight when u use garbage form. try this again with no excessive hip/back movement and lock your knees.thats what i thought.

  • actually what powabuilda did is called powersportscurls, they are an event in some federations including NASA, powabuilda hold the record in his age group and weight class.

    Although in some other feds there are strict curls where you lean against a wall.

    Also the guy in this video isn't me, you should be addressing powabuilda not me powabuilda. I personally can strict curl 130, with strict form, Powabuilda has a video curling 160 with pretty strict form.

  • Powabuilda holds the record in the powersportscurl in the 165 weight class in the high school division with a curl of 190, he also deadlifts 535 you can even check the NASA website, so I think he knows what he is doing and doesn't need your advice on how to train, he lifts more then you do and is younger and weighs 30 pounds less in his defense.

    Also once again if you have issues with the video address the right person, powabuilda is the lifter in this video not me.

  • @CodyV38 Ok you know the form in this vid aint too bad. I know this would pass in a meet.Ya, I used a tad bit of swing fine its like 30 pounds more then my bodyweight. Watch my 160 and 170 PS curl vids and those are pretty strict if thats what you want. I have also hit 190 in a meet recently watch the vid.. And in your comp curl vids you lean back a good deal too and your knees came unlocked so I don't understand all the ctriticism here....

  • maybe "terrible form" was a little harsh. but look at where you start, standing straight up then you lean forward about 6-8 inches and lean back with it about 4-6 inches. a lot of movement is all I was trying to state. I give u props for lifting more than your bodyweight, my vids are over a yr old too and I am now up to 175lbs working my way towards 200. the last vid i posted that u commented on i got red lighted for knee bend and leaning back too far. I must not have put that in the notes.

  • i wasn't tryin to hate on u or anything. i have seen ur NASA meet vids and honestly I can't believe they gave u some of those lifts.i am used to going to very strict judging type comps, i also judge on occasion as well. BUT, if those NASA judges gave u 2 out of 3 or 3 out of 3 then they are legit. nobody can question that. im impressed though, keep it up and always maintain technique. i got cocky a yr ago and tried to muscle some weight, blew a disc and was out 6 months. back at it now though.

  • Well this video is also pretty old I can do this stricter now myself.. And yes I di lean forward and back a bit here but not as muchas you leaned back. So regardles I can still hit this weight pretty darn close to strict now.

  • @CodyV38 Well if you watch my 190 curl vid from my last meet. You will notice I leaned forward some but not really back at all so it was pretty clean. And the lady judge who was the center one is said to be one of the stricest NASA judges and she has redlighted me at times before. So if she gives it to you you know its good...

    I agree that you need to do some curls with your back against the wall. You're just basically throwing the weight up. It's almost closer to a power clean than a curl.

  • this isnt impressive at all because u r not using your biceps. u only use them a little bit when u squeeze at the top, but for the most part u r just throwing it up. this should not even be considered a cheat curl.

  • I don't see what in the world is wrong with this video. My form isn't that bad at all. And my training is psecific for strength only and not to gain size. And when i do stuff that is cheating more, it is only once in a while to shock my muscles. So what I have been doing is working.

  • i think the thing that bothers him is that you cheat some but he doesnt realize you have to cheat when lifting more than your own body weight at curls - alltho theres a chance it'll injure you in the future some say =P

  • Ya your right in a way. I probably could have gotten thisup stricter, but it would have put alot of strain on my tendons unnecessarily.

  • I can't believe these guys are still giving you grief, you practically can curl your bodyweight almost strict I went back and looked at your videos on your 160 and 170, you leaned alil forward and backwards like a tad.

    I also love how they just like to look at your videos where there isn't picture perfect form, and only focus on those videos, when you have videos deadlifting triple your bodyweight, bending pans and screw drives, breaking bricks, and closing the heavy gripper 250 for reps.

  • Ya I don't really understand it. On a good day I have curled 180 with like no back at all just upper arm movement and thats like 15 pounds over my bodyweight Which is very hard to do. And I just recently curled 200 in the gym with the same form pracically as this 190 video. But in order for me to get stronger at stricter form it takes those nasty form cheat sets once in a while..lol

  • It looks pretty good here...but I don't know what passes in your sport curls, so I am the wrong guy to ask. In my opinion, this was still a cheat curl, but who cares what I think.

    If it passes in competition, that's all that matters. The judges seem to let you generate power from the back, rather than the biceps, so whatever works my friend.

    Great lift either way.

  • Ya, this lift would definately pass in a meet. I was just curious on what your interpretation of strict was. I think the form here was pretty close to my old 165 curl vid don't you think?

  • i hoenstly dont think this curl was stricter than my 150 that you said would fail. i leaned forward more than you (not much) but i kept my back almost straight at the end. you leaned forward a small amount but you leaned back much more than me!!!

  • Well if you watch closely, you can see I did not use as much forward jerking as you did on your 150 vid. The amount of forward lean you used there was about as much as my 210 curl. But you did do a good job at not leaninig back to much on it so I personally would pass it, it just depends on the judging. I have done 30 pretty close to PS form. If I get another chance to film, I will do that if not more by then.

  • If this passes in a meet, I don't get the point of calling it a curl. You generate power from hip extension, yes, biceps are doing a huge role in the end of the movement to lock it out, but the first part is hip extension, you may as well just do a power clean as you can use way more weight.

  • You have to be a PLAIN MANIAC to think this is a reverse grip clean! All IU did here was slighty swing my body at the start. NOT EVEN CLOSE TO A FULL BODY CLEAN!!! If I was cheating hard I can do around 300 pounds using my whole body.

  • Well all I am really doing is just swinging a bit which in my opinion is close to a strict curl. And you don't realize that when you are curling 30 pounds over your body weight, there is going to be some body movement that is just natural. I can do 180 without any swing, but there's no point in me training that way all the time because my body will never recieve the overload it needs to get stronger.

  • Oh that would be pretty easy for me that would be 160..lol My best that way is 180. When I get another opportunity at a gym I will film that. I should have been able to get this weight that way. But I still think I came close.

  • Yeah lately I lightened up on such strict form, I was a huge stickler for it back then, but found that I get results resorting to some small cheat form every now and then, however if people want harsh criticisms on form by request, I won't hold back haha.

    No ozz form just try for all arms even if you swing your upper arms to help I still consider it a strict curl, upper arm movement doesn't really give that much more pounds anyways as opposed to all lower arms 5-10 at most.

  • Ya, I think it can take of some poundage. But don't you think this was atleast kinda close to that? Cuz I have done 180 before the way you are talking about, but I think if I get another chance to video again, I might just try 190 again cuz I think I was pretty close to getting it that way.

  • You leaned back and leaned alil forward, you need to lose that for a strict curl, maybe alil bit close to it, but not much in my opinion.

  • I would just consider it a powersportscurl as well as your 210 curl video, your form looked like cyrus fords 225 curl, some slight forward lean and back lean, but the form looks like it would def pass in a competition.

  • I think Cyrus might have used a tad more bounce off the thighs to start it then this one. But I guess they are kinda close. But I still think it's semi strict as well. Although maybe not OZZ style..lol

  • I find hard to tell if people bounce it off there thighs. I don't even consider my recent curls Ozz style lol, Ozz style I consider is like super duper strict, all lower arms not even upper arm movement. These days I try to keep my form like that to a degree but you can still hit the biceps good enough with some slight upper arm swing, so I ease up on the super strict standards, and I even had a guy who competes in even stricter curl competitions tell me my form was fine with 125.

  • Thanks man! Id say my definition of a strict curl is a curl without boy swing or leaning back. If you can see, I almost did that here. It was very close so Id ssay it was strict. But I named it semi strict just for the sake of peope watching that have different defintions of strict.
