ACORN helps educate poor and underpriviliged families on things like predatory loans, they fight to improve wages for the poorest, they fight for aid for those hit by Katrina (and still haven't had any help), to help get schools better funding, to get affordable housing for poor and middle class people, to gain benefits that every other western nation in the world has, the list goes on.
the real problem some people have with ACORN is that it helps the wrong people, minorities and the poor.
I am happy and relieved that Obama is our new President, and I am happy and excited that we have the chance to be true friends again with Europe. We share the same culture and many of the same values. European thought gave birth to America. We are family and we should be getting along and working together as families do. Apparently you know neither what republicanism nor democracy are and are simply assuming that the Republican Party favors a republic and the Democratic Party a democracy. The two are not mutually exclusive. On a practical level, I suspect all democracies today are republican in some form (even defacto monarchies). And of course, not all republics are democracies. Rome, the Soviet Union, and China were/are republics. In the American republic, we choose our representatives democratically.

No, the representatives in our republic are chosen more democratically than in most (though you're right, it would be even *more* democratic without the electoral college). Representatives in other republics throughout history have often been chosen on the basis of family, wealth, status, or party membership. That didn't make the systems less republican - the supreme power was still held by the people's representatives, not by a monarch. The question is how these representatives are chosen.

I think we need reform to the democratic system, we could use Switzerland as a model. If we did have "mob rule" (which is what the monarchs saw all democracy as) we would have a much smaller military, social programs worth a damn (not like now), and universal single-payer healthcare (a national referendum was how the swiss got universal healthcare). this is all from polls.

ACORN helps educate poor and underpriviliged families on things like predatory loans, they fight to improve wages for the poorest, they fight for aid for those hit by Katrina (and still haven't had any help), to help get schools better funding, to get affordable housing for poor and middle class people, to gain benefits that every other western nation in the world has, the list goes on.
the real problem some people have with ACORN is that it helps the wrong people, minorities and the poor.

I am happy and relieved that Obama is our new President, and I am happy and excited that we have the chance to be true friends again with Europe. We share the same culture and many of the same values. European thought gave birth to America. We are family and we should be getting along and working together as families do. I for one am EXCITED for the future and I can't wait to see what we on both sides of the Atlantic can build together. :-D
