  • At 8:28 i was like "OH SHIT HTC FOUND HIM!"

  • big brother is watching us, so "don't be evil" ;)

  • Comment removed

  • does this apply to iphone users? can Carrier IQ distibute this information without us know about them doing so? i have questions, please indulge us with your findings on this matter, screw the people below me talking about irrelevant shit.

  • @TheAwkwordPair iPhone users are tracked too yes, watch?v=_HTCAomf0bI seems like every company tracks their customers

  • why are there illuminati bullshit in the related videos section?

  • lol... playing angry birds. xD

  • fuck

  • is this some type of ad for Apple users? [they can't be traced or some bullshit like tha']

  • illuminati is watching you. and are me too

  • iphones have more bullshit than Android, because iphone users are generally idiots...they never realize it :)

  • I'm from India, I checked my Desire S and couldn't locate the two apps in the 'All Apps' section. So does this mean CIQ is only present in the US devices?

  • @pickeringsamuel ...tell me, whose product is the subject of all these mindless, or perhaps opportunistic and alienating spam responses. Who makes iPhone which the poster(s) are trying to flog...huh?

  • Eckhart Tolle is Satan manifested in the flesh.

  • I wanna marry Trevor.

  • What's up with the spam?!

  • Haha thanks to you moronic slaves to apple, you have helped me to make up my mind. My next phone will be an android (samsung galaxy ll ) or the new Nokia / Microsoft phone. If the people responsible for this stupid spam want to lose current and future customers... This is the way to do it. Apple is getting too smart for its own good. Ciao

  • @susans1fan i dont get how this has anything to do with apple?

  • Alright. Shut the fuck up about free apple hardware. We all know that never happens. It's this crap that hides the relevant comments and then posts like mine appear and push the good stuff further behind. Please, CIQ is interesting.. I'd like to read someone else's opinion, not spammed. Especially since I'm writing this on an android phone.

  • And we are surprised by this why????

  • Кто не посморел видео полностью палец вверх

И еще каво бесит этот голос фалангу ап

  • Americans are totally enslaved nation, I feel sorry for them.

  • how can you stop or block these actions?

isn't it part of user privacy that they can't know these things.

although i have a HTC sense and i can not see HTC IQ app.

  • AT&T was discovered copying the entire internet for the NSA. Good thing AT&T made a comeback after the telecommunications act of 1996.

  • Lazy programming obviously

  • It's a scam!!!!

  • The page they are talking about is not the same as apple's page. You can't even click the buttons at the top. It's a scam

  • Why is there so much spam?

  • @Viper4723 CarrierIQ is US exclusive I believe. My international and unlocked Galaxy S II has no CarrierIQ mentions.

  • @venichen1 Oh ok, thanks, my phone was free of it sense I have a European custom rom (Desire HD Rom on Inspire 4G) There was some "HTC Function Test Program" that was installed that sounds like tracking crap, I uninstalled it with Titanium Backup and nothing was effected so it wasn't necessary.

  • @Viper4723 Nah, that's your typical "send anonymous usage data" crap. You can opt out of that.

  • @venichen1 Oh you mean like "Tell HTC"? lol I removed that too, in my mind all that usage tracking stuff is just a battery waster, I mean it has to use at least a little bit of CPU power to run even if its 1% - 3%, I want my battery to last forever lol, it pretty much does, I just have to make sure I don't let the phone get hot or the battery drains like a water faucet. :P

  • Your Internet provider can also get data from your modem and/or router! OMG! OMG!

Seriously, just because the app has "hooked" into key press events doesn't mean it is storing them or sending them anywhere. It may just be some key press combination is used to bring the app to the foreground.

  • @ArtStone you must have missed the article titled 'FBI using Carrier IQ info for "law enforcement purposes," refuses to release records' and CIQ's own statement that in this video the app was in fact storing data but not sending it.

  • Man...these phones are something else... Why would a company buy into putting that $H!T on someone's phone? The phone carriers should not complain about bandwidth when ghost programs are running in the background. Hello Patriot Act.... Nice to meet you.

  • cnn has ur name wrong...freaking media

  • Carriers never had any respect for their customers. Obviously having carrierIQ "accidentally" configured to monitor us is the worst, but the carriers have a horrible record long before that. Back when phones only had a few MB of memory, half of it would be occupied by non-removable spam apps. Verizon disabled bluetooth transfer so we would have to buy ringtones from them. Tmobile blocked non-tmobile messaging apps. Tmobile not only preinstalls junk, but has it set to run constantly.

  • nicee but too bad my phone is rooted and I just checked my running apps and it's not there... ROOT YOUR PHONE GUYS.

  • @OnaKarels

    nice

  • wow dude thanks for showing us this :o... just wondering though, because it was shown using the USB debugger, could it possibly just be showing the coding behind the device being used etc? and if you connect, does the stuff from the offline session get sent away?

  • good video.. this is completely criminal.

  • Um... Shit!

  • 1984 comes to mind....

  • @Jwegs55 everything but the date seems to be right..

  • I actualy smashed my Iphone 4s and terminated my contract. I told my service provider about it. Now I'm safer with Nokia. Just don't want nobody to share my stuff. U know.

  • Nokia doesn't have this! Inform yourself!

  • The guy below me is lying it's still there just more hidden

  • CarrierIQ was removed from all iOS 5 and above devices Apple is not a part of this anymore !

  • So it logs everything, but this video does not show any data being sent anywhere. Someone would have to have physical access to your phone to read any of that data.

  • @TheChills00

Not if you are connected, BTW if your phone is on you are connected.

  • Thanks to you Trevor you may have put alot of people out of business i did buy your software for 1 dollar and did remove it but the people working over there and Carrier iq ...

  • This data is in memory, in clear text, in every device, including your home PC. This Carrier IQ is simply dumping internal data, it would have been a security breach IF the data was sent out over the wireless network, unencrypted. However, this hasn't been shown in the video (only assumed from the logs) the only way for him to prove his point is to capture the data on the wireless network in clear text after they've left the device (and after all the wireless encryption layers are removed).

  • @SemiDecentz I think if the NSA or FBI suspects u of anything suspicious they would confiscate your phone and computer then look through all the contents and carrier iq seems to be a good example of hypothetically doing that. Unless they have better surviellance technology, in which case the company AND government has access to what one would think is private information. It's a shame that people are so easily fooled so long as its not obvious to them, if not its considered conspiracy

  • My biggest complaint is that they never gave the consumer a choice if they wanted to be tracked. I'm pretty sure a majority of people would have said no but another majority wouldn't care like myself since I have nothing to hide.

  • Fuckin dumasses do you really think there is someone looking at your info? Do any of you have a ps3 that has froze and then you send info to Sony about it when you reboot? This is it, it is for software and performance purposes. Did you know everythin on your computer is archived? So HP or Apple is reading your shit? GTFO please yall r juss plain. Stupid

  • @AnimeKen15 That's what people dont realize, that pretty much every electronic device hooked to a network is monitored. Not for privacy info but for performance. And if you dont like being monitored then stop using Google, Facebook and anything else connected to a network that tracks your data.

  • Comment removed

  • @AnimeKen15 So you're okay with the text in your messages, the websites you type in and visit, and the passwords and who knows what information you type in on your phone sent to wherever it is sent?

  • This is why in 3rd world countries phone battery life is amazing.

  • CIQ is on all iPhone OS 3.1.1 and above. but you have option to Opt -Out in general-about-privacy.

  • It is so sad that apple is involved in this as any other disgraced. Hey Steve how's are thing down under?

  • My phone shows up on a list of phones with carrier iq...gg sprint & samsung

  • is this on Apple 3g? There is no option under general, options, Diagnostics & Usage

  • @craigheyworth This is Android, not iPhone, listen to the video better.

  • Comment removed

  • @craigheyworth Idiot, that's right remove your post.. "dick. google it. it's on iPhone 4 etc" learn to read.

  • @tmack1219 :) removed because I'd be stooping to your level. but hey ho. :)

  • @craigheyworth Yea, because you're an idiot. Learn to read: "iPhones have the same exact software running." That's why you removed it. Because you can't read.

  • @limpiaHilsinger please tell me wat NR stands for

  • In addition to asking "why," I would like to know "who" is reading the data. Who in the hell is reading my private data and then "why?"

  • Pretty cool vid. I understand your concern but take a step back here. How can you trust the validity of anything at face value? These phones could be doing all kinds of stuff without you even being able to tell.

  • @SixHundredHP they're looking for the words 'liberty' and 'constitution' and 'freedom'. watch out if you type those.

'illuminati' 'NDAA' and 'lawsuit against stolen $134 billion in US bonds" might get you into MUCH more trouble

  • Why so protect over everything?

  • Who makes a video at 4 in the morning??? And iPhones are better.

  • @ak74uish Nice troll, except iPhones have the same exact software running. You have no clue why iphone is better.

  • @Thejewishassassin hahahahaha

  • My only problem with believing that all CIQ collects is these "metrics" which don't really have any substantial information is this screenshot, img268 imageshack us img268 5462 snap20110223174339.png which shows that metric logging is only one of a long list of things that can be logged with CIQ.

  • New world order, bro.

  • Wow, it's been several days Trevor, and you STILL haven't bothered to post a correction to this??? Do you have some sort of agenda? I had to go do separate research to discover that these log files you're showing AREN'T MADE BY CARRIER IQ. They aren't logging keystrokes. You have some debug software running on your phone (left on by the manufacturer) that's completely unrelated to Carrier IQ and which is logging keystrokes.

    Please post a correction!

  • AT@T..Remove Carrier IQ from my phone and apologize or let me out of contract to I can go to Verizon. They test they own network and don't spy on their customers.

  • I admire your courage throughout all this. We need people like you. Keep up the great work brother.

  • Fuck carrierIQ those cunts.

  • Does blackberry phones have carrierIQ? And if they do, how can i get rid of it?

  • i seriously think you people are taking this way to outta hand.. CarrierIQ is asked to be install via Carriers!! so carriers can see how you use your phone, and make their network better. if it wasn't for them sending data to your carrier on every crash etc, when those new shiny OTAs you all can't wait for start crashing your phone how they gonna do how to fix em with no reports being filed? i say carrier iq only use data they wanna use

  • @youngaceondeck 1. It should be an option to every person to either participate or not. 2. Why is it HIDDEN unlike other software that does similar task? There should be nothing to hide.

  • Let me get this strait... they know how much porn I watch?

  • @TheJewishAssassin great comment!!!

    LOL

  • @TheJewishAssassin Yeah, they probably do.

  • This better not be on the droid razr.

Other thoughts: can you please add me as your referrer in a app called "apptrailers"? Its a legit app that let's you get gift card of your choice over time by watching commercials. My name is Yahboiiii. You get 50 points if you refer me by the way. Thank you if you do it.

  • Carrier IQ's lawyer team disliked this video. :P

  • makes me wonder what runs in my dsl router :-)

  • Carrier IQ is so misunderstood... NOT

  • Shoulda got an iPhone Bruh

  • @camarocomputer carrier IQ is on every single iPhone..after IOS5 it won't be on IOS6 or beyond

  • This is the singular most annoying video I've ever seen.

  • @joshmax Your atrocious use of the English language is worse.

  • Excellent video! Thanks, Trevor!

  • What's the name off the application u are using to see the log of your phone?

  • @MrTeckman01 if your using linux you can just use the terminal to access your phones logger.

  • @MrTeckman01 Correction you can use adb logger

  • What's

  • Thank you.

  • Thank you for sharing this, I had no idea. This obscene breach of privacy needs to be stopped. I'm happy they withdrew their cease and desist order.

  • How are you monitoring on the terminal keypresses and what its doing?

  • Nosey ass government

  • ur overnerding the first 5min of this vid can be deleted it adds nothing to an already obtuse video already

  • Integrity is the next big political issue

  • I use to have Carrier IQ on my phone until it took an arrow to the knee.

  • @ac14081408 these kind of arrows are exponentially multiplying. I hope you have good knee pads.

  • TL;DW

  • The Internet is the new public space.

The rich and powerful will sometime

Value the pursuit of dollars more than the pursuit of personal freedom and privacy.

the best way to delete an idea is to post one of your own!

  • @privee1 Now when it comes to Apple's EULA's, I have read them in the past and did so more so after the creators of South Park did the CentiPad episode and exposed the Apple EULA's stating how Apple monitors and spies on it's users along with has you signing away your rights in agreeing. I do not use their products or services because of what I have read in the EULA's and do not have one handy. If you do, I suggest you read it for yourself.

  • @privee1 Apple when the iPhone first came out had CIQ and it's own monitoring software enabled by default, like with them knowing your location. After it was caught on this one, it switched this off by default, but that does not mean they still were not collecting info on you. Where their apps, iOS, and Mac OSX are closed source, which iOS and Mac OSX are Unix and are closed source illegally, you cannot tell what else could be spying on you when you are using their products.

  • I liked the music and sentiments expressed in the video response above called:

"Don't Delete Others' Words-Post Your Own'

Who do these tyrants think they are !!!

I will never purchase anything from them or their sponsors, unless and until they apologize and change their autocratic ways.

  • Thank you, EFF.

The Internet needs a midcourse correction.

It is a public place deserving of first amendment protection.

People who use these public places to promote their monied interests MUST NOT delete the words of other. They should only post their own words to contribute to a PUBLIC debate.

  • Yes, thanks to EFF!!

The Internet, blogs, forums, etc, have many powerful people who will delete your words, rather than posting their own words, in a fair debate.

They are cowards who value their money ineterests, more than personal freedoms.

    See the video response here.

  • Yes, thanks to EFF, for 'allowing the discusson to continue'!

    Some people mostly value money.

If the EFF and potentially costly lawsuits were not available then,

People that value money more than freedom would win.

People that value money more than freedom of expression would win.

People who value money moer than privacy would win.

I should now, my freedom of expression was successfully thwarted.

    Look at wwwDotYoutubeDotComSlashwatch?v=ltoQwSpHQBA

  • wow i used to video my GF naked on my HTC sensation...guess they got all that sh*t SMH

  • so nie mehr schuften bin so reich

  • Cant believe you got sued by those sons of bitches!!! Fuck them! Trying to silence the truth! I'm pissed

  • What about ROMs such as CM7 and MIUI?

  • @apicia The software is put on HTC phones. If you rooted your phone and installed a new OS that isnt Sense based, you should be good.

  • @apicia They are CIQ free because they are openly developed.

  • The raw reality is that you do have the right to privacy, but like all rights they don't mean much if you aren't willing to make a stand in their defense. Visit thecaseforprivacy(.)com to see how to stop all of this active cell phone spying. I put some videos and information on the blog to explain what nobody wants to get into; all cell phones are tracked, and how and "why" it is done.

  • !!! I think this film is about this type of Tech stuff... They just posted a few days ago... Very interesting... and creepy.. (XP

    Search "(AmI) Live" on Facebook~!

  • @KaldarRavage Apple admitted that the program does exist on iPhones, but says that the app has been disabled and will be removed during the next software update.

  • GTFO IQ

  • Wtf

  • Time to file some commercial liens against these corporations folks.

  • Fucking Big Brother is Watching

“We are Anonymous. We are Legion. We do not forgive. We do not forget. Expect us.”

  • may i ask if this would be working on a nokia c3 in buenos aires, argentina ?

  • Look at wikileaks... The spyfiles... It explaines how crazy the survaillance of the public has become... !!!.

  • At least this is not present in my non-US market Samsung Galaxy S.

  • There are now Android apps in Android Market that can detect and possibly remove Carrier IQ.

  • Occupy telecommnications!

  • like i care what people know about me when they know stuff from a million other people

  • @MsJackanape I think your belief can only come from being uneducated. There are numerous examples in history of why privacy is important and in the age of the computer it is even more of a concern. I suggest you google "Identity Theft" as a start on this new journey called learning. You might also google privacy act of 1974 and stop to reflect on why the government finds privacy important enough to make major laws about it. Maybe read a book like 1984 and reflect on it's message. Good luck.

  • @cydonia21 Very well said when it comes to privacy. If people gave more concern to their privacy then reality shows wondering if Boston Rob Mariano is going to win another one, this country would be a hell of a lot better off. They would have smelled the bullshit on the breath of Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld when they claimed the Patriot Act was necessary to protect us from terrorists when you are more likely to get in a car crash or struck by lightening then be a victim of a terrorist attack!

  • I just talked to sprint, they first told me its 100% safe don't worry about it. I told them I want them to remove it. They then told me that it's a violation of my contract to remove it. I told them to show me in writing. They then told me that oops we meant that it void manufactures warranty. I told them I don't care that's between me and the manufacturer. They then told me that removal will damage the sprint network Then I was disconnected. I called back 5 times with 5 disconnects.

  • @cydonia21 That sounds like what Sprint and AT&T have been doing to a lot of people. Removing it does not and will not void your warranty if they are the ones to do it. Not only that, it will not damage their network either because if that was the case with everyone who is running custom ROM's then their whole network would be down. Now if you jailbreak or root your phone then yes you are voiding the warranty. I would call them back and threaten them with filing complaints with the FCC and FTC.

  • @cydonia21 I lol'd hard at your comment. This is exactly how they work: fooling and stealing us.

  • Fuck u CIQ

  • Just to let all know who is following this. Over at the sprint forums they have cleaned house. In the HTC forum I can not find any mention of carrier iq anymore. i did some digging around and its gone. If I am just blind let me know.
