Very sad for the poor Golem, but now it's up to the girl to grow stronger before she can hope to see it again. Stories about Golems like that are usually warnings against human foolishness, so I was already prepared for something to happen. But this strikes me as a chance to hope, rather than something strictly harsh. I liked it.
Yoav Efron did the music, but what are the specific songs used?
That was so very sad... The poor golem. He just wanted to be happy and be her friend, and she turned her back on him. I think a good message is that someone is always worse off than we are, no matter how much we feel our problems are the worst. We can still reach out and be kind to others.
you're so right... why make things that stir emotion? lol you're pathetic if you don't like to be stirred. ugliness doesn't dictate ineffectiveness but simply implies a second look at what you see as beautiful. Secondly, the point isn't that you have to go back to reality but that the truth is that fantasy is just that and can't be an escpae forever.
Or maybe it means that if you wind up doing everything other ppl want, you'll not only lose your identity, but also the ppl you so kindly gave everything to...in other words, don't be a "golem".
The golem erases the first letter of "emeth" (truth) inscribed on it's forehead, forming the word "meth" (dead).
"God has created you in his image, likeness, and form. But now that you have created a man as He did, it will be said, There is no God in the world other than these two." -- Gerschom Scholem in 'On the Kabbalah'
It's certainly a different take on the legend. Unlike every other Golem I've ever heard of, this one definitely has a soul. And so has this wonderful film.
I just discovered this extraordinary film yesterday (2/22/07). It tells its story with elegance and economy, presenting subtle and complex themes without the use of a single word--just graceful images and graceful music. I look forward to seeing more of these artists' work.
Very nice vid. I could relate.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
what's the point? fatalism? go back to
your abusive reality because even in fantasy
those who love you will still hurt you?
or something? how pointlessly depressing.
looks beautiful, but the story is ugly.

God is dead, man is now creator.
