  • what song is this, I mean the ending part? I know its Godfather's theme, but which version?

  • fun fact: when he says "take the canoli", he is improvising.

  • the shotted in the car is not PAULIE :O

  • in the south, we would say...leave the gun, grab the fried chicken.

  • Ugh, the sound is off sync..

  • They left the gun and THE CAR. I always wondered, how did Clemenza and Rocco get back to town. I guess they walked home.

  • @mierpaul One of the Button men Probably Picked them up

  • @mierpaul Its called SANCTIONING the hit, which means the hit was already planned out with the rest of the family and someone was probably waiting for them not to far away. plus it was Paulie's car so who gives a fuck.

  • The fat man and his connoli, they're inseparable....

  • @1:40 Is that The Lady Of Liberty in the distant background ? A gift from The French, not Italian correct ?

  • "We're goin' to da mattreses"

"Come over here Mikey, I'm gonna teach u how to cook meatballs. Ya might hafta cook for 20 guys like this someday"

  • whats the point of leaving the gun ?

  • @maktoob110 i think leaving the gun made it look like suicide..perhaps?...or Clemenza cared more about his beloved canoli than his gun..lol.

  • @rowdymax1 They left the gun because if the police investigated, they couldn't trace it back to them (ballistics would show that gun was the one who shot him, it would be a long shot to get caught back then... but would you want to risk getting charged with murder or leave a cheap gun behind?).

  • @rowdymax1 Suicide with 3 shots? Not with a revolver.

  • @maktoob110 The gun has been made untraceable. This means that if the police find the gun at the scene, they won't be able to trace the gun back to who it belongs to, or who shot it. But, if Rocco and Clemenza take the gun, and the police happen to find them with the gun, the police WILL know who the gun belongs to and who shot it. Therefore, Clemenza tells Rocco to "leave the gun".

  • @rhapsody710 That's the answer i was looking for. Thanks alot

  • my dad told me this randomly yesterday. I had to see what it was, because I forgot.

  • "Leave the gun" was in the scrpit. "Take the canollis" wasn't it was ad-libbed by Castellano.

  • Its classic Clemenza, gets them to relax and strikes when they least expect it.

  • @squashedtomato Thats how the good ol mustache petes do it

  • 4 people took the gun and left the cannoli!

  • Message of the Godfather: When someone leaves to take a piss COVER AND DUCK.

  • I give em' a thumbs up because he tried......=/...he tried...

  • But isn't that the car he had just gotten after waiting two years?

  • either it's my computer, or this video's sound is a second or so ahead.

  • @jmarrvin It's the video that is out of sync with audio :(

  • 4 people were in the driver's seat.

  • if i was in the mob, i wouldnt want ANYBODY to sit behind me in a car lol...i dont give a damn if its my own son lol...he might kill me too

  • 4 people forgot to take the cannoli

  • It is amazing that he actually really had to piss

  • Comment removed

  • they left the gun because yes there were fingerprints back then but how did police stations find em for all the suspects.. there were no fuckin computers back then!

  • my friend , Fat Joe from Staten Island looked just like Clemenza, he must be like 80 yrs.old or better now.

  • when you do a hit, always always always take the cannoli.

  • Thats how business is done mafia style

  • Is that Rocco who sot Paulie Gatto?

  • why why why why must this be out of sync, why bother even loading it?

  • *fat clemenza

  • don clemenza was the man

  • the sound is out of sync

  • this is a great scene. clemenza is too cool.

  • Fat Clemenza is so cool.

  • Ahh if it was me Paulie would of been the one that made the compromise between mcClusky and Sollozo ,just to see if he still on our side ,if he's not someone would be outside with a tommy gun or when all of them get out i would of planted a bomb on sollozos car. That would be a great way for revenge and get michael to make his bones.

  • Ahhh Pauli Gatto if you weren't so freaken greedy Rocco lompone wouldn't of killed your ass.

  • as this is one of the most iconic scenes throughout the film and most possibly film history, the music defines iconic in that sense.

the iconic measure is similar to how, whenever jules winnfield went to the bathroom tragic events always occurred. this could be one of many references to Quentin Tarantino's overly drawn out film.

  • What kind of car does Paulie drive? I always wondered that. I think Clemenza really liked Paulie deep down, but Paulie's death was business, not personal.

  • @MrMike3865 Pauilie was Clemenzas protogee

  • @manufran02 I think you are right about that. Clemenza defended Paulie to Sonny when he (Sonny), asked how many times Paulie called in sick before Vito's' assassination attempt. I wonder if Paulie was a made man?

Paulie and Clemenza had a good relationship up until then.

  • @MrMike3865 Yes, Paulie was a made man and was a protoge of Clemenza.

  • @jp28hc Paulie was not a made man. Clemenza and Tessio were. Paulie was the don's bodyguard. He was Clemenza's lackey. Did you miss how Clemenza pushed him around at the wedding by saying " What are you, a dance judge " when he told him he looked terrific on the dance floor? And how Clemenza ordered him to go walk around and do his job? Paulie felt unappreciated by Clemenza, who was the don's most loyal soldier, so he sold out to Sollozzo and it backfired.

  • @kmel5150 Read the book. When Clemenza was considering who to replace him with, he thinks about Paulie's upbringing and how he was assisted in "getting his button" by him personally. It also has Paulie thoughts before the beating of the the who who assaulted Bonesera's daughter and it plainly shows that he is a made man.

  • @jp28hc I've read the book. And like the movie, Paulie Gatto was not a very relevant person. Wiki says he is one of Peter Clemenza's made men but they obviously didn't do a very good job portraying him as one. He's constantly pushed around not only by Clemenza but Sonny, too. Who in their right mind would even contemplate stealing wedding gifts at a Corleone wedding?

  • rocco to sonny: hey boss, i got some good news and some bad news. clemenza got hit wit a bullet while taking a piss in front of the car. the good news is i brought you some cannoli

  • statue of liberty in background is allegorical.. hand raised...

  • 4 people forgot their cannoli & got gobsmacked in the head in the car!

  • Really tremendous job at 1:02 making it really look like 1945

  • @lordvoldemort578 I know, today that would be done using all computer graphics. When this movie was made, they had to close the streets for a few hours, and have all extras driving cars as if it really was 1945.

  • @EbonyBunny1 Wow really? That's pretty cool. What about all of the people walking around,Do they hafe to dress a certain way, they are all extras too?

  • @lordvoldemort578 Yes everyone you see in the clip were extras. The movie was made in the early 1970's and relaesed in 1972. So everything you see that looks like from 1945 was done with extras, classic cars, the old fashioned street lights, all that stuff had to re-created on existing NYC streets. Today it's much easier, the actores work infront of a green screen, and all that background stuff is done with computer graphics.

  • @EbonyBunny1 It's very possible they found some old films of the mid 40's for those scenes. They are pretty generic

  • @golferman66 no they were all extras. I have met and know several people who worked on the film, both behind the camera and used as extras, and they told me how the movie was made, where the filming was. In fact a lot of the movie was taken just a few minutes from where I live, here in NY.

  • OH GOD #EPIC

  • Leave the gun, take the cannolis ... and the spaghetti, and the cheese, the ketchup, the butter, the marmelade, the cornflakes, the ...

  • The gun meant nothing; Clemenzo promised his wife he'd get the cannolis, they was important! I think the best line is when Sonny asks Clemenzo about what happened to the driver, and he just says "Eh, you won't be seeing him no more."

  • @NonstopPig Why did they kill that driver?

  • @shasha1873 Because he sold out Don Vito Corleone

  • @Screws18 Oh thank you. I understand now.

  • drum and base version of this can be THE SHIT

  • Did they have a getaway car waiting? I don't remember the scene but the quote is priceless...a pastry shell filled with sweetened ricotta is a TERRIBLE THING TO WASTE!

  • Does anyone know where exactly this scene was shot? I think it's somewhere on the New Jersey side of the the bay, but I'm not sure exactly where.

  • can comeone help me out.. what was the reason/purpose/ and benefits of killing this guy??

  • @maniaci123 After the assassination attempt on the Don (Brando) Sonny pieced it together that Paulie had made phone calls to Sollozzo to tell him where the Don would be and where Tom Hagen would be (remember, he was kidnapped for a day). Also, Paulie had been "sick" every time something bad had happened.

  • Madonne!

  • Ok so just to be clear they killed Paulie because he told the tattaglias where Vito Corleone would be so they can kill him???

  • Reasons the 'extermination' took place as it did:

    1) Paulie was driving!

    2) Clemenza didn't want to take a chance in getting blood on himself.

    3) Clemenza was reserved in wanting Paulie dead but knew it had to happen, he was able to distance himself from it somewhat by going ahead of the car and facing the other way (It is evident he expresses sadness at 1:49), some may interpret this expression as 'surprise' but it's actually 'reality' that the job is done and now they can focus on Canolli.

  • @tjdinfl you got it all wrong, clemenza wanted paulie dead to have his share of the cannolies, that greedy fat bastard

  • @sycho67ak HaHa! Fair enough!

  • @tjdinfl Reason the extermination took place. Santino ordered it and if it were not carried out, Clemenza and Rocco would be exterminated. Paulie sold out to Sollozzo, so Paulie was canceled.

  • @kmel5150 I wasn't stating WHY it took place; I was giving my opinion of why it took place AS IT DID. Yes, the order was given but not details on how to carry it out.

  • @kmel5150 real greaseball stuff huh?

  • @tjdinfl Oh... this whole time I thought Clemenza had to take a piss...

  • @tjdinfl it was so they could focus on business not canolli

  • @tjdinfl good analyization. the saddness thing makes sense spot on theory, especialy number two haha

  • @EvilChiken8 Thanks, some people have said I had it all wrong. It's just an opinion where I had a limited amount of characters to express my opinion. I could, however, write a whole essay on this scene!

  • @EvilChiken8 It's "analysis".. fool

  • After dinner at an Italian restaurant, I order dessert and my date offers me a stick of chewing gum. I said: "Leave the gum, take the cannoli."

  • @jacobison hahaha im laughing my ass off.. not at all

  • So did they just WALK home?

  • @IoSonoUomo yea man clemenza wanted to lose some weight, walking was part of his weightloss program

  • After all, you can't eat a gun.

  • @lavenderblossom Lol, you're a funny one

  • @lavenderblossom This is one of the most true statements in the history of the world.

  • @lavenderblossom LMAO!

    xD

  • Not enough Godfather clips on Youtube.

  • Yo, so does Clemenza just walk home?

  • At 0:54 why is it shot like that?

  • @IoSonoUomo You don't think it fit the scene? It would be lame to show their faces in the car (think about how the camera work would go) and they have to have some transition scene to before the execution.

  • @NoOne3234 It's just crazy, I'm wondering what's going on.

  • @IoSonoUomo Just finding some mattresses, picking up some cannoli, and killing a rat.

  • @NoOne3234 Yes, I know, the way 0:54 is shot is just strange, are they under a bridge or something?

  • Notice the Statue of Liberty in the background in the long shot. Beautiful mise en scene.

  • My grandfather just passed away today. He always told my father he was michael corleone, and even though he was not the oldest, he keeps this family together. He told me the same. I am now michael.

This movie is a masterpeice no matter what.

The Godfather is the best movie to exist.(the second is good too)

  • @wurde50 i agree on the godfather

  • I wait 5 minutes for the damn thing to buffer, the shit freezes and lags so I click some clowns name which holds me back a few more minutes, I recover using task manager which takes another 5 minutes, when its all said and done I get a classic clip plagued with poor voice syncing. Piss on this fucking bullshit.

  • "You Got Mail" brought me here.

  • the flick Goodfellas wants to be when it grows up

  • @GrizzlyRecoveryZone1 please..this is movie is a masterpiece but in reality this is flick that mafiosi wish their life was...honorable, efficient etc..goodfellas is the film that depicts the reality of what mafiosi are drug addled, backstabbing sociopaths (jimmy burke murdered his whole crew cos he didnt want to pay them :|)..the godfather is an awesome movie, but its romanticised bullshit - somethign mario puzo was famous for...

  • I remember on saturdays i would walk to my grandmama's house and she would be draining the ricotta for the cannolis on sunday dinner then when sunday came we would go to mass then we would all go to grandmama's house and eat and have cannolis for dessert oh man where did the days go

  • In Turkish we would said "leave the gun , take the kebab".. :P

  • Canoli are too good to be left behind. I am glad Clemenza didn't forget them. What an elaborately planned hit, they get Paulie to drive them around in his own car on a wild goose chase, laugh about exterminating him, then actually do it. I think they used vintage film from that time period starting at about :59 which gave realism to the scene. This movie is one of the great ones ever made.

  • Clemenza e uno sfortunato Paulie Gatto in "Leave the gun, take the cannoli." :)

  • To me Clemenza is like Sam the Sheepdog in those Sheepdog/wolf cartoons from Looney Tunes. He does his brutal job and walks out like a regular joe getting off work, lol!

  • Do you notice that while he is pissing he is standing right in the line of fire...........

  • @blabblab1212 In a deleted scene right before this scene, Clemenza and Rocco talk before Paulie gets there to pick them up. Clemenza hands Rocco the gun and says..".22 caliber soft nose load, accurate up to 5 ft, today you make your bones with Paulie". From that information I would think he was standing far enough ahead of the action to be out of danger.

  • @MrMike3865 You don't happen to have any swamp land for sale in Florida do you?

  • Why did they kill Paulie? Somebody answer me!

  • @NiceUjabuja Because he conspired with the Tattaglia family to have Vito killed in exchange for him not doing business with Sollozo, in the movie Paulie was "sick" the day that Vito got killed which caused suspision

  • @skateman96 Many thanks dude, I didn't get that part. Now I get it! Thanks!!! :D

  • @NiceUjabuja He gave up the Godfather by calling in sick a few days before to set him up for the hit ... .dumbass.

  • @Heidibear76 Thanks! Who are you calling the dumbass?

  • @Heidibear76 In the mafia people were killed just because, many hit men were nothing but cold blooded killers that worked for many mobsters and killed people within the mob at the command of the captains or bosses for shit as small as a disagreement. Many mobsters have said they wish they never got caught up in the streets !

  • @NiceUjabuja In the novel, Sonny has an associate check Paulie's phone records and sees that he has been feeding information to Sollozo. That's why they make a public whacking to show that the Corleones haven't gone soft and traitors will be punished. Good question.

  • @hochunkguy Thanks man

  • How did they get back to new york? they walk?

  • whats point in "..leave the gun?" how does leaving the gun help?

  • @FransisR They don't want to be caught with the weapon while fleeing the scene. If they've taken precautions to keep the gun from being traced back to them, it won't be much help to the police. In that case, it's better to leave it for the cops.

  • @thewolf914 and you dot let good Italian pastry go to waste

  • @thewolf914 Thanks

  • @thewolf914

Same reason why Michael dropped the gun on the floor after shooting the Turk and the cop in the restaurant.

  • @thewolf914 What about the fingerprints?

  • @cujossoul

    they tape the gun

  • @thewolf914 How do you know for SURE that's the reason?

    :P

  • @FransisR is it not obvious enough?

  • @FransisR It doesn't matter, cool quote FTW.

  • @FransisR back then you can only get arrested if u had the weapon with you because they had a tape that didnt show fingerprints so they only knew if you had the gun

  • @FransisR Having a gun linked to blowing someone's head off doesn't help you either.

  • "you respect him he respects you you fuck with him you die" thats what the mafia always says

  • @FransisR ur kidding me...

  • Clamenza is faaaaaaaaaaatttttttt!!!!!

  • The rat is dead for all to see, there's the message. Fingerprints, Clemenza's pride and joy car, two mafia hoods catching the bus home, walking, maybe even jogging with the cannoli; the best of good Hollywood gets away with it every time...baddah bing!!

  • exterminated

  • Is it me or does it appear that they ain't even moving their mouths when they talk or they moving their mouths and are not talking ??

  • Peter Clemenza played by Richard Castellano couldn't get a contract from Coppola to play in Godfather II that was a shame.

  • @MobHeataEnt

    - Actually, Castellano insisted on writing his own lines for part 2, and Coppola said no.

  • @glassoul Well it is good that Clemenza's part was outted and replaced by Frankie because it would have sucked to see another long time family member to bitch out on the Corleone's so i'm glad he didn't play in part II

  • hey we forgot one thing? How the hell we gonna get home? I just bought that car. Dont you think they will trace it back to me?

  • yeah rocko

  • lol he said " tree-o-nine West Forty Toid Street"

  • Notice the Statue of Liberty has her back turned.

  • @vitoduval that is right, good eye. I wonder if that was planned by Coppola, becuase it is pure genius!

  • "......exterminated???? hey, thats a BAD word to use!!! Exterminate!... get this guy, exterminate!.... watch out we don't exterminate YOU! ......classic!

  • classic quote!! i love it!

  • does anyone know where the house at :39 is? i know it's in some random neighborhood in brooklyn... something more specific though?

  • @burbscinates My guess is it's actually in New Jersey. As he says, "I wanna hit New York sometime this month", so it's somewhere outside Brooklyn definitely. It could still be in NY state however, it's very unclear.

  • @burbscinates

    more like ozone park

  • It's pretty obvious that Paulie was a rat. When they brought him back to the mall after the assassination attempt on the Don, he had one of the most pathetic fake coughs since I tried to get out of school to watch my favorite Twilight Zone episode back in 3rd grade.

  • you probably don't even hear it when it happens right.. ;-)

  • lol

  • Comment removed

  • haha...

    dont forget the canoli.

    L*

  • what does cannoli mean?

  • its a Sicilian pastry desserts

  • Um... Its a traditional Italian pastry. You've never heard of Cannoli?

  • Paulie sold out the old man that strunz

  • Gotta love your cannoli

  • why did they kil paulie

  • because he was the Don personal driver and on the day that they tried to kill Vito he was sick and that made sunny think that he sold the family, although if i record correctly it doesn't say that he really betrayed the family , not in the book and not in the film.

  • @nomorephones In the book Sonny tells Mike they got the proof through Paulie's phone records.

  • @jp28hc well i read it about a year ago, maybe i forgot that one.

  • 0:51 hove beach in gta iv

  • Why the seagrass tips in Jersey always black and grimy...is the air that bad there?

  • The drivers a dead man, a grass, an informer, a traitor.

  • i dont no what i thought he'd say when i saw the movie but that line took all the serious out of the scene. guns & cannolies! ha ha!

  • @xxdelta90xx idiot

  • Agreed

  • Leave the gun, take the cannoli! one of the best quotes ever LOL

  • @ZivaMJ that's what I always say every time I have cannoli at the ristorante
